“Adelaide’s GLBT community turned out in their hundreds last month to support the South Australian government’s Statutes Amendments (Relationships) Bill supporting same-sex relationships rights. Community activists and politicians speaking on December 6 outside the SA Parliament House urged the Legislative Council not to delay debate by sending the Bill to the Social development Committee.
“Former AMA President Dr Kerryn Phelps, a surprise speaker at the rally, was warmly received by the crowd, and spoke out against the use of organised religion to contribute to ‘continued injustice, continued inequality, continued disrespect for our lives, for our relationships and our love’. The Let’s Get Equal campaign delivered 24,000 letters to the Upper House on December 3.” Lesbians on the Loose, January 2005.
