PRINT THE TRUTH is the first distributed political poster system in history. Every day until the election, we give you a free poster. Print as many as you can, paste em up. Put them on the office fridge, the cars in the lot, on your vacuum cleaner, wherever you can.

With 100,000 people printing 10 posters a day, we can hang 60 million important messages between now and election day. Power to the printer, power to the people.

When I took the picture, I was too busy concentrating on the composition to notice that one of the women was actually a man. This is unheard of in traditional Japanese performance of this kind. Maybe that's why the woman on the left has forgotten her moves: She's just spotted a man in a kimono and is looking to see whether anyone audience has noticed it too.

I found the quote only after I'd post processed the fractal.

Night Equals Day, 2008/2009

Adrian Blackwell - Toronto, Canada

Film Installation

Filmed in Regent Park from sunrise to sunset on October fourth 2008, Night Equals Day is being projected in City Hall’s council chambers from sunset to sunrise one year later.

The film was shot at one frame per second with a 35mm film camera mounted on a motorized tripod head, rotating one degree every second, turning one full rotation each hour, capturing twelve daylight panoramas from 7:00am until 7:00pm. The installation is governed by a simple mathematical logic of shutter and pan speeds and the symmetrical relationship between the time of filming and the time of projection. It is intended to raise questions about the temporality of urban renewal and the equality between successive forms of the city’s fabric.

The film rotates at the intersection of Sackville and Oak Streets, at the boundary between the neighbourhood built in the 1950s and the construction site of the new buildings which are replacing it. For Nuit Blanche the projection emphasizes relationship between a site, a residential neighbourhood, and a non-site, the virtual space of decision making in the council chambers at City Hall.

Blackwell is a visual artist, architectural and urban designer whose work focuses on the question of equality within contemporary urban development. He is designing the public furnishings for Toronto’s Nathan Phillips Square, is an assistant professor at the University of Toronto and a member of the Toronto School of Creativity and Inquiry.
