Epping forest is an ancient woodland that has been permanently forested since neolithic times. Formerly dominated by limes, in the Saxon times the composition of the forest was changed through selective cutting. The forest became a Royal Forest under Henry II (1154-1189). Henry VIII and Elizabeth I are known to have hunted here. Queen Elizabeth's Hunting Lodge can still be seen here in Chingford..

First finish of 2014! Going all the way to Australia to a friend!

Two English paper pieced butterflies-then machine quilted.

My first trip to Epping Forest and I was blessed with almost perfect colour and conditions - happiest four hours with a camera I've had for a long time.

I just couldn't resist the signs for Epping Forest on my way home from a meeting in Waltham Abbey today. Unfortunately, I wasn't dressed for wandering through the woods and muddy paths, so this is as far in as I got.

Towards the rest of London.

One more from our walk in November. Lovely. Have discovered it makes a nice desktop.

On the 30th September 2018, the Epping - Chatswood Rail Link (ECRL) was closed to be converted to a "Metro" as part of the Sydney Metro project, a driverless train system running from Tallawong, near Riverstone, to Sydenham, with plans to extend to Bankstown.

I can't remember exactly whereabouts in Epping Forest this was. I used to walk there quite frequently when I lived in the Romford area in east London. Taken in October 1997 with a Bronica ETRS rollfilm camera. 2515_120B203_03.jpg
