Though this project I wanted to characterise and juxtapose how we visually interpret our surroundings with how little we truly understand them, both visually and psychologically.

The village, 90 km south-east of Dodoma, Tanzania, actually IS called Wotta. This was once an impressive waterfall, but too large an area of the catchment has been cultivated, so that only a trickle of water (flowing like a bath tap!) gets here.

Arrow arum, spatterdock and other wetland plants grow in a six-acre tidal wetlands restoration completed in 2006 lines the Anacostia River near RFK Stadium in Washington, D.C., on May 1, 2024. The restoration complements larger efforts in Kingman Lake, near Kingman and Heritage Islands, and was funded by the District Department of Energy and the Environment (DOEE) and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Kingman and Heritage islands were created in 1903 using dredge spoils from the Anacostia River, which had filled in with eroded sediment from centuries of development beginning in the 1700s. After a seawall was constructed on both sides of the Anacostia in the early 1900s, the river had lost about 90% of its wetlands. But efforts in recent years have brought some wetlands back to the river, including at Kingman Lake. (Photo by Will Parson/Chesapeake Bay Program)
