A riparian forest buffer planted alonger Beiler Run, a small stream in the Susquehanna River watershed, is seen at Denlinger Farm in Ronks, Pa., on June 9, 2023. Denlinger Farm is a 93-acre livestock and cropland operation adjacent to a tributary to Mill Creek that locals call Beiler Run. Project partners have been working with the Denlingers and other farmers along this stream to install conservation practices such as livestock fences with off-stream watering systems, planting trees to create forested stream buffers, and improving manure management. Two-thirds of Beiler Run is now protected by forested stream buffers. These efforts are improving the water quality and aquatic habitat in Beiler Run, the Susquehanna River, and the Chesapeake Bay. Beiler Run is now one of Lancaster County’s target waterways for its Rapid Delisting Strategy for stream restoration. (Photo by Will Parson/Chesapeake Bay Program)

During our Environment Unit we tested the water tolerance of 4 different types of plant seeds - barley, radish, corn and pea.

We planted 3 seeds of each plant into 4 containers. Everything was kept the same except we add different amounts of water to each container. One container had no water, and contained dry soil, one container we added moist soil but no water. We added 40mls of water to one container and 80mls of water to the last container. We also had one class container labeled swamp - it had 120ml of water added to it. All containers were sealed in zip-lock bags.
