Just playing with the Leica X1. First time I've used it to bracket shots for an HDR. All I kept thinking when I was processing this, is how empty the chair looks without my grandson in it reading a book or playing on the iPad. Time he came for a long stay, methinks. I don't like empty chairs.

And if we can cool a shot of Jake's living room, what about mine? Or is this HDR suicide?

From the series Empty [#1.1-1.6]:

The artifacts of commerce lie fallow in an apparently empty major port city. The red/copper/green palette evokes a muddled American banknote. These cues prompt the viewer to examine our complicated relationship with commerce: its necessity, how it benefits humanity, and the need to make sure it is constrained by a substantive focus on human well-being.

Empty sensations. Empty feelings. Empty smiles. Empty tears. Empty days. Empty life.

Empty me.

When you grow up you realize that there'll always be someone who has something more than you. Someone better, more beautiful, more loved, someone who is simply more. And that will make you sad. Will make you sad to know that you, as you can put the whole, you will never be even half.

During this time I feel so. A nothing.

The evening sun set reflects on First Bus 33755 a standard Enviro 400 as it makes the first of its four almost empty trips into Town, but that’s the usual story on most of the inbound 231’s, the intended passenger sees a bus in the distance, gets up in readiness then moves away from the stop and the bus sails past. Why, well the 231 and 216 both of which travel down Ashton New Road into Manchester are operated by Stagecoach seven days a week but for a reason no one can fully explain to passengers the Monday to Saturday evening service on the 231 is operated by First.

Most people in the area now have the Stagecoach passes which are obviously not valid on First so passengers simply stand back and wait the two minutes for a Stagecoach on the 216. The sad part is TFGM will say no one uses the evening 231’s and knock back the frequencies even more, what they can’t see is that it’s their doing with evening and weekend tendering that drives more and more passengers away.

An equally empty Childrens Playground can be seen in the distance heading for Ashton, more interesting is the fact that the Metrolink stop is a few yards away from here but there is still a preference for the bus by many, I wonder why.

Our Daily Topic - Empty

Seen on the Thames riverside wall near London Bridge.

i took this for the My Impression Of... group, inspired by the portraits of local rural decay by beebo wallace and tearapen. it's an abandoned shop i pass on my way to and from work every day. tonite i stopped at the deli across the street to pick up dinner; when i walked out, i knew i had to shoot this.

i have a lot to learn with shots like these, but having these guys as inspiration? makes me want the night to turn back into day so i can get out there and find an even better subject.

their work is astonishing and important. check it out.

So surprised to see the seat empty! Mind you, there weren't many over Enys for a change!

This reminds me of the Bob Marley song for some reason....

For various reason these last few years we haven't got to the beach until June or even July, despite living so close. So we made a family resolution to go a bit earlier this year - and our reward for most of our walk was an empty beach, seals and Moominmamma practicing her silkie moves when the waves came in too far :-)

In the middle of Sanaa, you still can find those gardens. A heaven in the heaven, as around, thousands of cars are horning!

Sanaa is the capital of Yemen and the centre of Sanaa Governorate. It is one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world. At an altitude of 2,300 meters, Sanaa is also one of the highest capital cities in the world. It is Yemen's largest city. Sanaa has a population of 1,700,000.Sanaa is one of the ancient Yemeni cities dating back to the Sabaean dynasty of the 6th century BC. In the 7th and 8th centuries the city became a major centre for the propagation of Islam. This religious and political heritage can be seen in the 103 mosques, 14 hammams and over 6,000 houses, all built before the 11th century. Sanaa’s many-storeyed tower-houses built of rammed earth add to the beauty of the site. Moreover the old city is a World Heritage site recognised by UNESCO. As of the dawn of Islam until the detachment of independent sub states in many parts of Yemen Islamic Caliphate, Sanaa persisted as the governing seat, who himself is Caliph's deputy in running the affairs. The city of Sanaa recurrently assumed an important status and all Yemenite States competed to control it. The Mamelukes arrived in Yemen in AD 1517. Following the collapse of the Mamelukes in Egypt at the hands of the Ottoman Turks, Yemen fell under the Ottoman rule and during the first Ottoman rule of Yemen between 1538–1635, Sanaa became the capital of the Ottoman wilayah and also during the Ottoman second rule 1872-1918. In 1918, Sanaa was the capital of Imam Yahya, who ruled North Yemen. At the onset of the 1962 revolution which deposed the imamate rule, it became the capital of the Yemen Arab Republic. It was then the capital of unified Yemen in 1990 where it is dubbed as the historical capital of Yemen.
