Empty shops and business premises are a common sight on UK High Streets, but many vacancies are relatively short lived - the shops are soon in use again although in these difficult times, the new business only have a limited life.
This collection portrays retail outlets that have been empty long-term, some for many years. In the past, all these have housed thriving businesses. Yet now, for some reason, they are empty and some are falling into a state of disrepair and dilapidation.
Each has its own story to tell. Some are completely empty, others seem to have stopped trading suddenly and appear like the Marie-Celeste, still with stock in the windows. In many cases, we can tell easily from the faded signage what business last operated from the shop. Others are a complete mystery with faded blinds or shutters and all signs removed.
Our Daily Challenge: Empty
The original image was considerably whiter and warmer but also more washed out. A little color temp adjustment, add some black and then darken the edges and you have what you have. The shell is sitting on a large piece of white card board with another piece directly behind it and another to the left. A large round pop out reflector is to the right. On camera flash aimed to the left and manually set at 1/8 power. Exposure f5.0, 1/100 of a sec. 100 ISO
I don't actually know how i was able to take a picture of such empty roads in Central London. Just one of those 'once in a lifetime'-pictures =)

When I was out for a walk last weekend I found a big pile of empty snail shells. Some bird had had a good feast!
Anyway I took some home for my "things to photograph" collection
This whole day was odd...a huge snowstorm had hit the weekend before, but I came in on the Monday after. It had started raining that day, and pretty much continued the whole day. from about 1pm to 5pm, it was mostly an ever present moisture in the air with occasional drops. It never really went away, and as night came the fog started. It made for a really interesting sky and atmosphere, especially since the park was completely empty when I shot this photo
We did a garage sale (yard sale) today and it was very lucrative but also very draining! My entire body is in pain and I feel even more melancholic about moving out! Almost all our stuff got packed in boxes except for what we need until we move out!
I never realized that my back looked like that until today:
1) my underwear/clothes is leaving marks on my skin
2) I have a creepy spinal cord
3) I should have that mole check by a doctor! Every year I have 1-2 removed because I'm a little hypochondriac.

There's a frozen space, an unbreathable air, a markable emptiness.
It closes your eyelids and makes all fly through yourself. It's a more inner pain that occupies your brain, your cells, and takes your soul.
We drove a round to find this empty parking lot and it holds true, "a man's trash is another man's treasure." We found these abandon furniture and made the best use from it.

You came to the window to find an answer... You look at the sky, you look at trees, you catch the sunshine on a pavement, you notice shade dropped from the bench… Pretty flowers in the garden, birds and squirrels.... up and down.. One moment you think that you have found it but you can’t feel it. You just stood there looking for answers… until you find yourself staring at one spot, so lost and so tired…

Three BNSF GE's lead a Galveston, TX to Bonneville, WY empty molten sulfur train that is slowly rolling through the siding at Longs Peak. They still stop at the north end and wait for the Longmont Switch and a southbound manifest.
"You stare at empty mirrors, looking for a sign. Nothing but reflections of the faults that left you blind. Calling for a savior to convince you it's alright, running from the consequence, you're wasting precious time, there’s nowhere left to hide..."
Or maybe this case, empty windows? Either way, this time I'm using the new LeLutka Alain head rather than the LeLutka Skyler I had in previous pictures.
I made the shape in just a few minutes so I'll probably fudge with it more, but I think he looks okay considering the quick job... but I'll let everyone have their own opinions, of course. :)

This red-tail hawk is pulling up grass in hopes of finding the prey that it went down on. Alas, there was no prey there. There is at Cherry Creek State Park, in the meadow below the old main office, in the turn-out there.

“Didn’t you used to date Poppy ma’am?” asked Sally.
“For a while,” sighed Lily. “She drove me mad about the usage of furniture.”
“How so?” asked Sally.
“Well,” grumbled Lily, “we used to have an empty drawer in the bedroom. She would say ‘we need to use that drawer’ every single time we were in the room together.”
“Blimey,” replied Sally. “I would have told her to put a sock in it.”
