this is the new aldi on london road, i saw in the news that people queing to get in on the opening day??? i would not even que up for an apple store opening let alone a aldi opening. people queuing for an opening of aldi is the worst sign of the credit crunch yet we are only one step away from 80's Russian bread ques!

This red-tail hawk is pulling up grass in hopes of finding the prey that it went down on. Alas, there was no prey there. There is at Cherry Creek State Park, in the meadow below the old main office, in the turn-out there.
Bluebirds 254,255 have just passed the former Ambleside yard running empty cars to Balhannah to stable after dropping passengers off at Bridgewater on a charter trip on 14-9-1999

About -13°C (7°F) when shooting this. It's been relatively mild during the previous weekend (around freezing point), something that explains the lack of ice on the river. However: there is a very cold weather forecast for next week, so that's going to change.
Winter harbour for traditonal wooden boats across the river, on the Isegran - Kråkerøy side. Some of the boats moored here were used as rescue ships by The Norwegian Society for Sea Rescue (Redningsselskapet), and built in Larvik (Norway), from 1893 onwards, by the famous boat builder Colin Archer. Archer's family were Scottish, but emigrated to Larvik and Norway in 1825.
Archer also built Fram, Nansen's ship that drifted across the polar Arctic basin for three years during 1893-1896. Fram also was used as Amundsen's expedition ship, brought Amundsen and his group to Hvalbukta on the Ross barrier and made the south pole expedition possible.
While preparing for a weekend of outdoor activities, I found this pic I meant to post back in March. The mountains are obscured by the clouds allowing the public artwork (Chinook) stand out against the sky.

I took a slightly wet walk with my new waterproof FujiFilm Finepix XP140 Monday afternoon just to test it out. I have to say it's more fun to use than my now deceased GoPro. Now that I've put its through its bad weather trials, Mother Nature can bring back that sunshine.
Now that most of the leaves have fallen, the vacant nest is no longer "undercover".
