An emerald damselfly seen beside the snipe pool at Coombe Hill Canal & Meadows nature reserve in Gloucestershire.

Last Monday, Marg and I decided to celebrate our 41st anniversary by taking a run over to Lake Tahoe and eating lunch along the lake. It was a good plan, the only problem was that it was also everyone else's plan. With 72 miles of shoreline you think it would be possible to find a parking place--no dice, at least not at the more popular spots. I'm beginning to think that summer is a good time to stay home.

The image shows iconic Emerald Bay with the larger lake in the background, and the Sierra Nevada Range looming in the distance.

One of the gems in the Canadian Rockies. The famous Burgess Shale, with the exceptionally well-preserved Cambrian fossil beds from 508 million years ago, which profoundly changed our ounderstanding of evolution, is located on the high sunlit ridge in the centre. According to Stephen Jay Gould, they form “the world’s most important animal fossils”.

At RSPB Baron's Haugh, Motherwell...birds in hiding but plenty of active insects...focus was a struggle!

It's not a good photo, but it was the first time I saw this species. It showed up, in the early morning, before sunrise, while we waited for the Quetzal, and perched itself on the Avocado tree for a few minutes. It was a bit far away, and the light was dim, but it was fantastic to have the opportunity of watching a bird so beautiful ... even more so since I never saw it again.

San Gerardo De Dota - Costa Rica

Scientific name: Lestes sponsa.

Female.

The Emerald damselfly is a medium-sized damselfly that lives among lush vegetation around the edges of ponds, lakes, ditches and canals. When perched, Emerald damselflies have a habit of holding their wings half-open, rather than closed along the length of their body like other damselflies.

Many thanks to people who view or comment on my photos.

The pretty Emerald lake there in Yoho National Park. Captured here with a ND filter to smooth out the reflection just a little.

Wanted to do something different and vibrant in color a bit portrait wise.

Have a wonderful Wednesday!

Emerald lake is a true jewel in the heart of Rocky Mountain National Park., CO.

Perhaps the loveliest damselfly in the region. And of course, green is my favorite color!

Observe the lower belly of this toucan, with its disordered plumage. This is a mom who has been lying in the nest a lot. La Ceja, Colombia; 2.300 meters above sea level.

Aulacorhynchus albivitta

(Southern Emerald toucanet / Tucancito Esmeralda)

Like other toucans, the Andean Toucanet is brightly marked and has a large bill. The adult is 30–35 cm (12–14 in) long. The sexes are alike in appearance, although the female generally is smaller and slightly shorter-billed.

The Andean Toucanet is a generally common in humid forest and woodland, mainly at higher elevations.

Lovely to see this Willow Emerald Damselfly (characteristic spur marking on thorax) on our walk along Woodham Fen today!

Could be a Scarce Emerald Damselfly but I think it’s just the Emerald Damselfly.

I shot this through a mdf with the intention of getting a longer exposure to smooth out the water as it was breezy up there, no luck on that front as the sky glowed in it's gray coldness, what did happen was this unexpected side effect. :-)

Okay… since I still don't have anything new to post... here’s yet another Vertorama from my (much too) short stay at the Emerald Lake Lodge in Canada’s Yoho National Park!

This is easily the most spectacular landscape that I have ever set my eyes on… the other lakes were very pretty… but Emerald Lake was a real gem!!

Nikon D300, Sigma 10-20mm at 10mm, aperture of f11, with a 1/100th second exposure.

I saw this butterfly at the conservatory at Brookside Gardens and it did not cooperate by visiting some flowers. Instead it just wanted to sit on the leaves by the wall. Well, I shot it but the photo languished until I took a look at it in Lightroom years later. I am now just amazed by how beautiful this thing is. I can see the name Emerald is quite justified by those amazing green scales on this beauty which shine like tiny emeralds!

This is a 30 second exposure version of Emerald Lake, Yoho national Park, BC, Canada

I must have fallen asleep, I completely forgot to share any vacation pictures! This one is even older. The photo, which I created this year, I found not so successful. So I decided to dig in the archive and post exactly the same motif from last year. Yes that's no problem we are up here more often the kids and the sea a probably inseparable story ;) Just as inseparable my love for music and photography. Therefore, it would probably be very unlikely if I had no song for this.
