Resting behind the golden stupa of Theravada is a recreation of the Thailand's famed Emerald Buddha which sits protected in Bangkok. The translucent green skin refracts the sunlight as it passes above.

The quiet beauty of this place will be something I will never forget.

So many beautifully colored waters in the BC/Alberta national parks, like Lake Louise, Lake Moraine, Maligne Lake etc. Emerald Lake has a similar color to Lake Louise, only richer due to more powdered limestone in it's glacial runoff.

Nature rules, and unfortunately much of my recent trip north had much cloudiness and rain. I spent a day here waiting for a break in the clouds to allow the sun to bring forth this amazing color. This was one of the few opportunities I had. In full sun the turquoise color is extraordinary. Next time!

Friday's here. Enjoy a wonderful day and weekend!

Coming into the channel yesterday AM. Has till Monday and they are done till spring.

My eyes suffered permanent injury as i took in the sight of this lake and surrounding mountains - they were so wide in awe..

A walkway circles the entire lake a two hour walk we shall certainly make next time we visit. The air was as pure as the scene.

Well, those who follow me on Facebook already saw my post of this location here. It was a selfie made at sunrise with my buddy Olaf and Nadia. We were here on Sunday before last and it was such an enchanting place! Both Olaf and me we were ready to hike some time through forests or mountain slopes. But nothing of this happened. I must confess, I was never in my life so quick at such a beautiful waterfall without walking. We parked the car on the roadside in a forest, went down about 80 steps of a stairs … down a ravine … and voila … we were at the location! What … so quick? I couldn’t believe that such a place was so easy accessible! Well, more time for the preparation before sunrise he he he. And I must repeat … it’s always such a great experience and great fun to shoot with friends.

After some time Olaf and Nadia began to make some portrait shootings and I took the chance to explore more the grotto from the inside! And thanks to the light of the sunrise and the wonderful green tones of the water the grotto began to shimmer in yellow and green tones in a subtle way. It was like in an Emerald Cave! This was the perfect moment for me to make this shot here. I hope you like it!

Thank you for your time and interest in my photos, your visit is most appreciated :-)

A shot of Sunday's incredible sunrise from the bluffs above Lake Tahoe, CA and stunning Emerald Bay. Only 24 hours earlier a spring snowstorm was dusting the area with a beautiful white coat that quickly melted away.

Emerald Lake, British Columbia, Canada

Emerald Lake is a freshwater lake located in Yoho National Park, British Columbia, Canada.

Emerald Lake is enclosed by mountains of the President Range, named after the President and Vice-President of the coast to coast Canadian Pacific Railway, built in 1885 and which runs through Yoho National Park. Other peaks are Mount Burgess and Wapta Mountain.

The lake gets its name because of its remarkable color, which due to a different rock type producing the sediment that is suspended in the glacial water, reflects the green spectrum of sunlight rather than the blue spectrum.

Tonight was my first attempt at light painting. I wanted to bring more of the foregorund detail to the image without compromising the image the noise of having my ISO up too high. The green glow of the northern lights combined with the lit up green grass reminded me of emeralds.

Andean Emeralds are found around humid and wet forest borders, second growth, and highland clearings with trees. They are most common above 1000 meters in the Andes of Colombia, Ecuador and northern Peru.

Males and females are similar in appearance but the male boasts a blue crown and the female a green one. Both genders are green above, white below, and possess a coppery upper tail.

Last Monday, Marg and I decided to celebrate our 41st anniversary by taking a run over to Lake Tahoe and eating lunch along the lake. It was a good plan, the only problem was that it was also everyone else's plan. With 72 miles of shoreline you think it would be possible to find a parking place--no dice, at least not at the more popular spots. I'm beginning to think that summer is a good time to stay home.

The image shows iconic Emerald Bay with the larger lake in the background, and the Sierra Nevada Range looming in the distance.

One of the gems in the Canadian Rockies. The famous Burgess Shale, with the exceptionally well-preserved Cambrian fossil beds from 508 million years ago, which profoundly changed our ounderstanding of evolution, is located on the high sunlit ridge in the centre. According to Stephen Jay Gould, they form “the world’s most important animal fossils”.
