Emerald Eyes - I have been following this particular Bobcat for almost 2 years now and have had the fortune of photographing her beautiful kitten last year. I was afraid that she had moved on due to some trail maintenance - but was thrilled to find her again after several months recently.

I have noticed that some Bobcats have yellow-orange eyes and some have green eyes. This particular cat has beautiful light green eyes and I was really glad to capture them well here. A problem I had with DSLRs was losing the focus on the eye and catching a different part of the face or body when close to subjects. The animal eye AF of the R5 has really been a game-changer for low light Bobcat images for me. It helps me focus on composition, and seems to lock onto their eyes so effectively that I don't even have to think twice about focus. It also seems to help that Bobcats have large, light colored eyes which the system seems to like.

The silent electronic shutter also seemed to help as this particular cat is on the shyer side so I was very thrilled to be able to capture her filling the frame at 371mm! Very excited to see and capture more of this beautiful cat.

The lush green Nilgiri mountains with myriad lakes , picturesque tea plantations offered a wonderful weekend getaway. The highlight was spectacular sunrise and sunset. Exhilarating trekking through the rain forests with lush foliage, and it also offered some wonderful landscape photo ops.

Have used Singh Ray color combo polarizer with four stop graduated ND filter.

This is a scene from Emerald Lake with Emerald Lake Lodge on the little island in Yoho National Park, British Columbia.

There was a slight wind, enough to ruffle the surface of the lake so I decided to use a ND filter to create a long exposure and to smooth out the water.

What do you think of this effect?

At Polney loch this afternoon.

Met up with Darren a couple of Saturdays ago to shoot sunrise and hit a waterfall in the early am. Sadly sunrise was a bust, with no clouds in site :( we cut our losses and headed down the road to explore Gorton Creek. Nothing like hoping in ice cold water first thing in the morning to wake yourself up! Please view large and I hope everyone has a great week!

On a very dramatic afternoon...with some amazing Waves.

Sunrise on Emerald Lake.

Emerald Lake is located in Yoho National Park, British Columbia, Canada. I hadn't expected this fantastic lake and was completely overwhelmed by the intense colors. Although in the beginning the view is somewhat obscured by 100's of tourists that mainly make pictures of themselves, after a strenous and difficult hike for let say ca. 200 meters, there are no tourists anymore to be seen, and then every view is amazing. This probably has been the nicest hike I have made in Canada (ca. 7 km?), because every side of lake emerald has a different view. I will post more of this lake later. There are so many nice shots.

From 11 june till the 25th of July, I traveled in Canada. Starting in Brighton Ontario, where my sister lives at the border of an amazing part of lake Ontario, I flew to Vancouver, and Vancouver island where I took the boat at Port Hardy to take part 1 of the Inside passage, to Prince Rupert in BC. Two days later I took part 2 to Skagway in Alaska. When coming from Skagway Alaska, you can take the train to Carcross. it is a very scenic train ride that halts at Bennet lake.

And then to Whitehorse and further on by car to Kluane National park in the Yukon district. Whitehorse is situated at the border of the Yukon. Frow there I flew back to Vancouver, rented a car, and traveled three weeks in the BC- and Alberta Rockies, visiting the famous, and less famous Nature parks like Banff and Jasper. Last few days back to Brighton Ontario to enjoy lake Ontario once more, before going home. A picture of my itinerary can be found on Facebook (www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10152940536581759&set...).

4000 pictures later, it is quite a task to show the right stuff, although the stunning scenery guarantees at least a few great shots to share. Objective will be to make a book (for myself mainly), and that might take a while.

I hope you will enjoy the impression of my travel, one that equals earlier journeys to Alaska and south America, this journey was the first in the digital era, and equally intensive because of all the hiking activities every day on and on. I loved every minute of it.

Emerald Lake is a favoured tourist destination in Canada's Yoho National Park. The lake is surrounded by striking mountains, including 'The Presidents' and the lake's water is indeed the colour of a fine emerald. Canoe. Hike the lake's perimeter. Picnic. Enjoy!

Clouds started to clear over the mountains revealing hints of the grandeur that is Emerald Lake. The Presidents and Michael Peak in the distance.

A well-placed inviting bench along the south shore of British Columbia's Emerald Lake. Michael Peak in the distance.

There is a great trail around the lake for hikers and explorers. Renting a canoe and paddling around this large lake is quite popular. The red canoes pop nicely against the green/teal glacial waters. A rather grand location for image hunting for us photographers as well.

Enjoy a wonderful Wednesday!

We had a little bit of snow around the Seattle area today and after seeing Dene post a fb pic (no she didn't bother to tell me the sky had cleared) I jammed over to the bridge to check it out. Her and Hai were up there already freezing and firing away. There were some fast moving clouds that lit up with some pretty nice color about 15 minutes after sunset. I stuck around until the last light finally died out and bailed home just in time to slide up the hill to the house as it was freezing up.

Hope everyone is out enjoying the snow and having a little fun while staying safe.
