Beglückende Wehmut
Noch ist es nicht winterlich, doch die im strömenden Regen auf Einlass wartenden Fans kriegen am Dienstagabend bereits einen Vorgeschmack auf die garstige Jahreszeit. Element Of Crime weiss im gut gefüllten Volkshaus bald mit einem Exkurs über den Winter zu trösten. Sven Regener singt mit prosaischer Stimme, wie er seiner Liebe auf das «brüchige Eis deiner Jugend» auf einem Baggersee folgt, einzig darum, weil: «Seit ich dich kenne, mag ich es gerne, wenn der Winter kommt - dann wird's früher dunkel.» Dann bläst er den Worten verträumte Trompetenstösse hinterher.
Zuvor hat der Sänger und Texter der Berliner Gruppe augenzwinkernd erklärt, er mache gerne Witze, weil ja alles so traurig sei. Melancholisch zumindest klingt einmal mehr auch das letztjährige Album von Element Of Crime, «Mittelpunkt der Welt», das an diesem Abend im Zentrum steht. Regener, der vermutlich als Schriftsteller mittlerweile bekannter ist («Herr Lehmann»), besticht in diesen Liedern einmal mehr mit feinsinnigen Beschreibungen von zerbröckelnder Zweisamkeit. Stoisch stellt er einmal fest: «Du merkst, dass der Klang deiner Stimme mir keine Liebeslieder mehr singt.» Ein andermal blitzt Schalk auf: «Finger weg von meiner Paranoia, die war mir immer lieb und teuer, nie liess sie mich so kalt im Stich wie du.»
Neben solchem Witz und einiger Komik liegt es vor allem an der Musik, dass diese Lieder nicht deprimieren, sondern tröstlich wirken. Die vier Musiker spielen sympathisch unaufgeregt und mit offensichtlichem Spass, schaffen mit feinem Handwerk eine behagliche Grundlage für die Texte. Zunehmend kommen auch ältere Songs zum Zug, allerdings nicht die englischen aus der Anfangsphase der 1985 gegründeten Band - das Englisch beschränkt sich auf die letzte Zugabe: «Across The Universe» von den Beatles.
Höhepunkte im über zwei Stunden dauernden Konzert sind eine rockige Interpretation von «Immer unter Strom» und eine zarte Version von «Weisses Papier». Beglückende Wehmut unter den mit den Musikern gealterten Fans kommt auf, als gegen Schluss gesungen wird: «Wir taumeln durch die Strassen, so als wären wir jung und schön, Schlaf ist jetzt nur ein Irrtum, und die Musik tut nicht mehr weh.»

The books on the top left corner portray my love for reading. During my spare time I always have my nose in a book. I took this photo to capture repetition. Next to this is the Quran and this represents my religion, which is Islam. The element is used for this picture is proportion. Beside that is my basketball and a sneaker. One of my favourite sports is basketball and the shoe represents running and dance (hip hop) and the element used is perspective.
Underneath is a picture of Maffeo Sutton Park. I love swimming and Maffeo Sutton Park is one of my favourite places in Nanaimo. It shows balance. The picture of the dragon represents my trip to Hong Kong. My family and are always travelling to different parts of the world and the element used here is colour and texture. Another thing I like to do is listen to music and that is what the IPod represents as well as shape.The picture of candy and masks portrays Halloween which happens to be my favourite occasion. The element used here is colour. Above is a picture of a lion which show form. I find myself to be a very strong, confident and courageous. The middle photo of me was taken last year on my sixteen birthday. This photo represents contrast. I feel that I should have 100% as all these photos portray my interests and personalities while having an e&p of design in them.... it's also my birthday :)

Pero Palo en Villanueva de la Vera
El auténtico origen del Revive, apodo del Pero Palo o Peropalo, se desconoce. La tradición popular lo sitúa en la edad media, pero no existe una base documental que lo acredite. Si analizamos el festejo encontraremos ciertos elementos que enraízan con el misterio de la muerte y la resurrección, con los ritos agrarios de los celtas para conseguir la fertilidad y en las celebraciones paganas de antigua Grecia y Roma.
El Peropalo simboliza un ser superior, de naturaleza casi divina, que renace y muere cada año en pro de la regeneración de la naturaleza; una víctima propiciatoria que el pueblo ofrecía a los dioses para conseguir la fertilidad de las mujeres, los animales y las plantas. Es un gran monigote de paja, vestido con traje típico de Comarca de La Vera. Su cabeza de madera, denominada “la turra”, es el único elemento que se conserva año tras año como símbolo de resurrección.
Tendríamos que retroceder a la antigua Grecia para descubrir, quizá, el origen del nombre del Peropalo. Según los eruditos, el nombre podría provenir de la raíz griega “peros y phalos” (sin falo), un ser castrado, en beneficio del pueblo, cuyo falo tenía poderes mágicos.
Algunos hablan de que el personaje fue un judío usurero, otros aseguran que fue de un malhechor, un guerrillero o un cobrador de impuestos que fue ajusticiado en la localidad, aunque la versión más popular la relaciona con un levantamiento de los habitantes de Villanueva de la Vera ante los abusos de los señores feudales en la Edad Media. Sea cual sea su procedencia, la fiesta rememora un juicio popular cuya celebración ha pasado de generación en generación y forma parte del acervo cultural y la tradición de La Vera.
