The first masts appear on the Castleield Viaduct in Manchester.
Electrifying this critical short stretch will allow electric trains to travel between the Chat Moss route and Manchester Piccadilly and between Bolton and Piccadilly. The former will open up both Liverpool and Scotland to electric traffic, the latter will enhance the Scottish option.

One of the piers which has had its top rebuilt to accommodate an electrification mast.
The end result does not exactly match the original, but stone facing is cut from the original and all eight tops (one on each side of four piers) all match each other.
We reckon George and Robert would have approved.

The water pipe which was diverted over a scaffolding bridge has been installed in the new bridge, so the scaffolding bridge has been removed. The shuttering has been removed from the 'joins' between the new spans and the roadway at both ends of the bridge. The concrete the shuttering enclosed can be seen below the plastic safety fencing.

Another hard to ID car simply because the Buicks of the time all looked alike! BTW, the fender ports indicate the number cylinders the engine had; 4 for a V8, 3 for a V6

Orange Empire Railway Museum
The Orange Empire Railway Museum (OERM), 2201 South "A" Street, Perris, California, is a railroad museum founded in 1956 at the Pinacate Station as the "Orange Empire Trolley Museum." The museum also operates a heritage railroad on the museum grounds.
The collection focuses on Southern California's railroad history. It houses the largest collection of Pacific Electric Railway rolling stock in the world, much of it rescued from scrapyards after the discontinuation of their passenger operations.
Two early Los Angeles narrow gauge streetcars from the Los Angeles Railway run each weekend on the half-mile long, dual gauge "Loop Line". A passenger-carrying diesel or electric freight train with open gondolas fitted with benches and at least two cabooses runs on the 1.5-mile (2.4 km) long, standard gauge mainline that was once a spur line of the Santa Fe Railroad. The main stretches from south of the museum northward to the junction with BNSF Railway, where the historic Santa Fe depot on State Route 74 stands. The BNSF Railway spur is in active use, and the railroad grants permission for OERM trains to use the spur for special events. A Pacific Electric interurban "Red Car" also operates on the mainline on selected weekends, but the line electrification ends a block south of the depot. Streetcars and locomotives are selected on a rotating basis. The museum maintains a steam locomotive in operating condition and its use is scheduled for each third Saturday, September through May, certain special events and major holidays.

Although the loop to the left was never disused, it was in a sorry state when photographed earlier. It is now spruced up and electrified, lending flexibility to a stretch of railway with few overtaking places.

Ok...corny title...I know, but I'm seriously running low on ideas for titles for my photos. For some reason, I really think they need a title, something different, conveying the message I was trying to depict. Anyway...This is my second entry in the Picniker's "my favorite effect" contest. And yes, this really is one of my favorite effects. I love to use the photo basket feature to layer. Either adding a little something to my photo or like this one...completely transforming it into a work of art, where it hardly resembles the original. I've done this several times, but NEVER with only photo basket, I've always used other effects in combination with photo basket, so this was challenging.
Like all my photos, it kind of started to unveil itself. I wasn't for sure what I wanted but as soon as I added the first layer I kind of saw it. She looks like a new age superhero...streaming electricity from her eyes and hair. The background reminded me of maybe the sidewalk and some steps in the city in a bad area where she would be fighting crime.
But....As always, I'm being long winded. I'm sure everyone that reads my stuff is probably bored to tears. I hope you like it.
