Whilst following the NW electrification I have encountered many pleasant, professional Orangemen who are clearly proud of their work and happy to spend a few minutes sharing their expertise. Today was another smashing example.

Two chaps working on the southern end of Platform 5 told me what's what and readily agreed to use my camera to take shots from a non-public area.

I really appreciate their unselfishness and good humour.

Preparation work for improved signalling and electrification can be seen, eg a mast base.

As is common in many countries that have rapidly grown in the past 30-40 years, the pace of urban development has outstripped the ability of government planners to keep up with them. Building developers end up taking matters into their own hands more often than not, and do their own thing, often bribing government officials to look the other way. The result is, these kinds of ad hoc electrical wiring are a common sight.

The tamper scurries southwards. Adlingrton station is just out of sight round the bend.

Note the scrapes where electrification masts will be installed. One appears to have destabilised the classic 'Nineteen and two Quarters' milepost and the edge of another other can be made out int the bottom right hand corner of shot.

The new single span was craned in on Sunday 2nd August 2015.

Wrinkley and I spent most of the time looking at the bridge from opposite sides, so we present two sets of photos, this set looks northwestwards from the riverside path, the other looks northeastwards.

The exercise was a case of difficulty followed by triumph. The span arrived later on site than planned, mainly due to the extreme difficulty of getting a 62 foot long structure down Ladybridge Lane which is narrow and winding. The transporter lorry was then unable to negotiate the right angle bend to the planned unloading point, so it had to park on the bridge's truncated northern approach.

This necessitated a recast of the plan to ensure the load could be lifted safely and swung across safely, without toppling over, for example.

After some time all Orangemen were called round to be given Plan B, at which point it became all hands to the pump.

The lift then went very sweetly, straight in first time, good fit, no ifs, no buts. Good job all round.

Will it fit?

Looking surprisingly busy for a Sunday

Ari, looking good, loving the 80's vibe she's giving me, she reminds me of 80's Kate Bush, I really like her blue streak in her hair and her dress is so awesome really nice dress, best Ari so far, the only issue I have is the hair but apart fro that she's a beauty.

Ella junto con Twyla, son mis favoritas de la línea. por cierto es curioso, pero están repitiendo los personajes de Haunted, con esta línea, solo que con Ari en vez de mi querida Spectra 😔

THE ABERYSTWYTH CLIFF RAILWAY OPENED IN 1896 AND OPERATED ON A WATER BALANCE SYSTEM UNTIL ELECTRIFICATION IN 1921.THE CLIFF RAILWAY IS NOW THE LONGEST ELECTRIC CLIFF RAILWAY IN BRITAIN AND IS ONE OF THE MOST POPULAR ATTRACTIONS IN ABERYSTWYTH. IT CLIMBS CONSTITUTION HILL FROM THE NORTHERN END OF THE TOWN'S PROMENADE; TRAINS RUN EVERY FEW MINUTES DURING THE SPRING, SUMMER AND EARLY AUTUMN.

THE CARRIAGES ARE HAULED TO THE SUMMIT AT A STATELY 4 MILES PER HOUR, AND ARE POWERED BY A POWERFUL MOTOR AND HIGH-TENSILE STEEL CABLES SUPPORTED BY A SOPHISTICATED ELECTRONIC SAFETY SYSTEM. AS THE CARRIAGES ARE DRAWN UP TOWARDS THE SUMMIT OF CONSTITUTION HILL, AN AMAZING PANORAMA IS REVEALED. ON A CLEAR DAY, THE VIEW EXTENDS AS FAR AS THE PRESELI HILLS IN PEMBROKESHIRE TO THE SOUTH, WHILE THE WHOLE EXPANSE OF CARDIGAN BAY OPENS OUT TO THE WEST. TO THE NORTH, THE MOUNTAINS OF SNOWDONIA CAN OFTEN BE SEEN RISING DRAMATICALLY OUT OF THE BAY LIKE ISLANDS.

This is pretty cool but it does take away the reality of the original and maybe that's down to just being a little over the top with the editing!!
