He added: "A bit more progress this weekend, another hole was dug next to the one that was filled in last week, and now there are cable ducts coming out of the ground, but no cables, they are still lying in the vee of the junction.
There are definitely four cables in the middle two ducts mounted on posts by the car park, I can’t see into the top or the bottom ducts, but there should be six cables.
No change in the OHLE, the missing and temporary fixings are still missing and temporary."

A weekend possession gave the opportunity to install replacement mast bases near the former crossing. These new bases replace earlier ones deemed to have failed.
The bases are near the former crossing, they are not part of the footbridge which has replaced the crossing.

Wrinkley added: "Things are moving on, all bases now constructed between Beaumont Road and the Ladybridge, just two masts missing near Beaumont Road bridge, probably waiting for concrete to cure on the last base.
All bases in place between Beaumont Road and the station, including two more behind the down line platform beyond the station bridge. There are eleven masts missing.
The first base just past the station bridge is a TTC, the mast is up but the cantilever is missing. The second base is a pile next to the large diameter pile which has been there for months and now appears to be abandoned, no mast yet, but I think it will be a TTC. Beyond the station, all the masts are up and the first two are TTCs with cantilevers fitted. If you look past the TTCs there are orangemen and stacks of ducting, the ducting is probably connected with the large tanks installed in the vee between the Preston and Wigan lines. Some ducting has been laid between those tanks and the one at the Bolton end of the station"

Yesterday we published photos of two wires being installed here. The work continued overnight so that there are now four wires up and hanging.

Peter Conroy kindly supplied Photo 0242m of this bridge which he took in Spring 1964.
Peter has clear memories of this magnificent, rickety bridge, but, after 50 years, hazier memories of its location. Following a lot of desk research Paul Gaskell and I set off to find it, and find it we did.
We started at our 'candidate' bridge - Ravenhead Greenway Footbridge, St Helens - but quickly realised that we were in the right general area but wrong bridge.
We then started accosting passers-by of a certain age (and their dogs.) After many anecdotes, lots of laughs and much scratching of heads passer-by No, 5 (and his dogs) said straight away 'It's that one over there' pointing to the next bridge south. He told us how his Junior School gang's rite of passage was to crawl along the cross-timbers through steam and smoke from trains below. He identified the houses and the school at extreme right in Peter's 'Then' photo, which he attended.
We drove round to the bridge passer-by No.5 identified and it all dropped into place. The road, which Peter remembered as unmade, is now metalled, but the kink remains. New housing has been built in the near background, but the houses visible in 1964 are all still there, as is Thatto Heath Community Primary School.
The bridge superstructure has been replaced in the intervening years, but, to our amazement, baulks of timber still splay out between the piers.
The biggest change is vegetation. An exact 'Now' picture is possible, but would be just brambles, long grass and mature trees, even in January. The best 'Now' shot possible, however, is pretty darned close. Please see Photos 2866j and l as well as Peter's 0242m.
The other big change, in railway terms, is electrification, the top of a mast can just be seen centre left.

We believe the location from which we took this shot is legal and safe, though it definitely warrants stout footwear, preferably wellies. At no time did we pass any signs, or breach the railway's admirably complete pallisade fencing.

This picture was taken at the Shwedagon Pagoda, the most sacred Buddhist pagoda for the Burmese with relics of the past four Buddhas enshrined within.
Please keep in mind:
Burma (Myanmar) is ruled by a military junta. In 1990 Aung San Suu Kyi was elected by the people and imprisoned for the next 20 years after the election by the military.
In 2010 a election was staged to keep the military leaders in their current positions. People are starving and are forced to work.
All the pictures you may see in my stream are very onesided, as it is prohibited to take pictures of the military and the police. Also I just do not take pictures of poor people on the streets and there are a lot of very poor people in Burma.
The Burmese people are the nicest people I ever met and should be supported, even if I don´t really know how.
The country needs support. I posted some links to some international organizations helping Burma.
Burma is NOT the usual travel destination! Even if I am avoided all governement fees as far as possible (partly in long hours of bus travel) I still can´t say that I am sure travelling the country helps the people or should be boycotted as proposed by some people.
The government just moved the capital to Naypyidaw. When I saw it from the bus passing it, I had tears in my eyes seeing how the "Generals" collect the money building fancy buildings and streets around them with people starving. I was so shocked that I did not even took a picture...
- Unicef
and of a smaller German organisation (I met one of the responisbles during my trip)
This is an incomplete list, I´ve also seen www.doctorswithoutborders.org and there are others.
Please help, the burmese people need it.

Not much change visible to the railway side of Victoria's east end, but plenty on the Metrolink (tram) side, with the three tracks and associated platforms taking shape along with electrification masts and progress on the stunning new roof.
Taken from the east end footbridge looking southwest.
The new single span was craned in on Sunday 2nd August 2015.
Wrinkley and I spent most of the time looking at the bridge from opposite sides, so we present two sets of photos, this set looks northwestwards from the riverside path, the other looks northeastwards.
The exercise was a case of difficulty followed by triumph. The span arrived later on site than planned, mainly due to the extreme difficulty of getting a 62 foot long structure down Ladybridge Lane which is narrow and winding. The transporter lorry was then unable to negotiate the right angle bend to the planned unloading point, so it had to park on the bridge's truncated northern approach.
This necessitated a recast of the plan to ensure the load could be lifted safely and swung across safely, without toppling over, for example.
After some time all Orangemen were called round to be given Plan B, at which point it became all hands to the pump.
The lift then went very sweetly, straight in first time, good fit, no ifs, no buts. Good job all round.
It's looking good....

At the time of taking this photo, Superloop routes SL9 and SL10 were already using electric buses. (SL9 was renumbered from X140 in late August 2023 and SL10 was established in November of the same year).
At the time of uploading this photo, Superloop route SL6 (originally numbered X68) was passed to Arriva London South from London Central in Late March 2025, and was given similar electric buses seen here. Superloop route SL4 was established in early April 2025 after the competition of the Silvertown tunnel. The route currently uses BYD BD11s (which recently entered service in late 2024.)
Day four of the partially electric service was sunny and clear.
Most services were diesel powered, but not all.

He added: "According to these notices that are on the access gates along the track (these are at Dean Clough with similar ones at Ladybridge), there will be no energisation before 25th November.
Still no sign of activity to put the cables under Beaumont Road bridge."

Northern Electric 319 365 arrives at Huyton from Liverpool Lime Street, to form the 13:02 all stations to Warrington Bank Quay.
Hopes were high that this was the start of regular electrics on this service, for which route clearance and staff training have been completed for some time. In the event the Class 319s ran just for this one day only, whilst engineering work was taking place elsewhere.
It is still expected that the service will be electrified from the December 2015 timetable change.
