This has been an unusually rainy Greek summer, but I guess we should make the most of what we have. Shot on the Α1 national road, near Agios Stefanos, Attica, Greece

The performance of the Tesla Model 3 is in fact impressive. I need to see about renting one.

The BR Class 799, known as 'HydroFLEX' is the UK's first hydrogen powered passenger train.

Developed by Porterbrook and the University of Birmingham's Centre for Railway Research and Education.

HydroFLEX is a bi-mode multiple unit retrofitted from a Class 319 EMU - it combines hydrogen fuel cell technology with electric systems allowing operation on both electrified and non-electrified lines.

The 'Greatest Gathering' was a celebration of 200 years of modern railways.

The cover of the 1951 BTC report into the Electrification of Railways. The report, chaired by C M Cock, Chief Mechanical Engineer of the Railway Executive, basically 'rubber stamped' the status quo ; that London Transport should retain it's 630vDC fourth rail system, the Southern Region its 660v DC third rail system and that main line electrification should, as codified in the 1927 Pringle Committee's recommendation, take the form of 1500vDC overhead. This latter decision was soon to be rapidly overturned as the BTC turned to the 25kvAC system that at the time of this report was effectively being trialled by SNCF and that indeed a version of which was being trialled in the UK on the converted lines around Lancaster & Morecambe noted in this report. The report contains a number of maps.

This map shows the extensive 3rd rail electric system on Tyneside that was inaugurated by the pre-Grouping North Eastern Railway and that BR would in time actually de-electrify. Much of the mileage has now found new life being incorporated into the Metro system.

The outlying Lancaster area scheme had its origins in the Midland Railway's use of its branch to trail 6600v AC overhead electrification at 25khz in 1908. In 1953 it would be converted to 50khz as a trial for the upcoming 25kvAC system and it continued in use until the whole branch was abandoned in 1966.

Another view of a sunrise I captured on the Mall. I like the odd balance between the big tree in the foreground and the small tree in the distance. Constructive critique welcome.

The setting sun dips behind a couple of electricity pylons.

This is my first attempt at a composite shot. Made up of two photos (both taken by me). One shot for the sky and one shot for the car/ground. Took a while, but I'm quite happy with the end result. The lightning bolt that is seemingly coming out of the car is actually real...it was in the sky photo used in the composite. Please leave a comment/fave if you like it! Please do not use/post elsewhere without my prior consent...thank you.

Class 47/4 no. 47634 'Henry Ford' heads north on the curve past York Yards North in 1988 where electrification masts have begun to be erected on the York avoiding lines. Starting life as D1751 in July 1964, later renumbered 47158, the loco was withdrawn in March 2001 and cut up at Kingsbury in October 2004.

Here's the DIY instructions for this shot. Get a 3 year old, a car battery, a couple of feet of wire, and some alligator clips. Haha, no. No!

Ella had just gotten done sliding down the slide, and had some awesome static hair, that I had to capture. I have some of her face in focus, but I really liked this happy accident, where the auto-focus locked on to the crazy hair.

The station may be wire-ready.

London United DLE30069 (SN17MVU) is seen at South Kensington on route 70

Daytime long exposure of 31 seconds, shot while using a B+W ND110 filter, ISO 100, f/22. Photoshop CS4 and Silver Efex Pro. I kind of like the dancing cables, due to the long exposure.

Looks better on black, so please press L on your keyboard.
