Water is dripping onto this outdoor drum in the drum courtyard of the Cedar River Watershed Education Center at Rattlesnake Lake. A note on the image shows a splash in progress. Several drums were played by spurts of water. I presume the flow is controlled by a computer, as the pattern of spurts changed periodically.

Archer, from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m., Benjamin led a discussion that introduced the students to his experiences serving as a Peace Corps Volunteer. In a general assembly he talked about global health and environmental issues, cross-cultural understanding and the importance of community service. Peace Corps Volunteers work at the grassroots level to develop sustainable solutions that address challenges in education, health, economic development, agriculture, environment and youth development.
At Perspectives, real-world, experiential learning opportunities are integrated into classroom curriculum including welcoming visitors with a broad range of skills and professional interests to open the minds of students to the myriad professional possibilities available to them. Through partnerships with museums, businesses and other organizations as host sites for Field Studies, Perspectives develops specific curriculum that prepares students for their learning experiences, building on the 26 principles of the A Disciplined Life eduction model. Combined, these opportunities give students a "big picture" of the world around them and a sense of connectedness to the broader community.

The 2013 Great Lincoln Spring Chicken Run, a 5km run around the High Street, Brayford Pool and the University of Lincoln Campus. قال سمو الشيخ عبدالله بن زايد آل نهيان وزير الخارجية والتعاون الدولي، رئيس مجلس التعليم والموارد البشرية، مستهل كلمته: "يسعدني اليوم أن أكون بين نُخبة تعليمية رائدة تَحْمِلُ نِبْراس المعرفة والنور لتُضيء به دروب الأجيال الناشئة وبجهود المخلصين أمثالكم، ترتقي العملية التعليمية، وتُحقق المجتمعات غايتها ومن هنا تبرز أهمية مبادرة اليوم في تكريم المدارس المتقدمة في الاختبارات الدولية وهي إحدى مبادرات مجلس التعليم و الموارد البشرية، و التي اتت ضمن مبادرات الاجندة الوطنية المتعلقة بنتائج دولة الامارات في الاختبارات الدولية "
وأضاف سموه: أن المجلس يكرم اليوم ثلاثين مدرسة حققت نتائج عالية في الدورات السابقة لاختباري ( TIMSS وPISA) التي تشير إلى وجود نماذج تعليمية متميزة في دولة الامارات. وأن هذا التكريم يرسخ أهمية دور المدرسة في تحقيق أهداف الاجندة الوطنية ،التي رسمها صاحب السمو الشيخ محمد بن راشد آل مكتوم ،نائب رئيس الدولة، رئيس مجلس الوزراء حاكم دبي، والتي تعتبر مسؤولية الجميع وليس الجهات التعليمية فقط واعتبر سموه أن للمدرسة دور كبير في تحقيق هذه الاهداف.
و قال سموه: اليوم يسعدنا أن نحتفل بالمدارس التي نجحت في تحقيق هذه الاهداف. كما ان تطوير التعليم في دولة الامارات والارتقاء بمدارسنا هو هدفنا جميعا، ولن نستطيع أن نحققه لوحدنا بل نريد من المدرسة والبيت أن يتضافرا لتحقيق ما نصبوا إليه جميعا،في خلق جيل جاهز لتحديات المستقبل. ولهذا، فإنني أدعو كل مدرسة لتنخرط معنا في تحقيق الاجندة لوطنية لدولة الامارات، وأن تضعها ضمن مهامها الرئيسية، و أن تكون ضمن رسالتها، وأن توعي الطلبة وأولياء الامور بأهميتها، و أن تستثمر مهارات الطلبة و افكارهم و جهود المعلمين وكل من له علاقة بالعملية التعليمية، عن طريق وضع الخطط والمبادرات لتحقيق الاجندة الوطنية لدولة الامارات.

جاء ذلك خلال كلمة لسموه في حفل نظمه مجلس التعليم والموارد البشرية، اليوم، لتكريم 30 مدرسة متميزة، حققت نتائج استثنائية على مستوى الدولة في الاختبارات الدولية بنسختها الأخيرة 2015، وذلك في كليات التقنية العليا للطلاب في دبي.
حضر الحفل، معالي سلطان بن سعيد المنصوري وزير الاقتصاد، ومعالي حسين بن إبراهيم الحمادي وزير التربية والتعليم، ومعالي نجلاء بنت محمد العور وزيرة تنمية المجتمع، ومعالي جميلة بنت سالم مصبح المهيري وزيرة دولة لشؤون التعليم العام.ومعالي الدكتور أحمد بن عبدالله حميد بالهول الفلاسي وزير دولة لشؤون التعليم العالي، ومعالي شما بنت سهيل بن فارس المزروعي وزيرة دولة لشؤون الشباب، والدكتور علي راشد النعيمي مدير عام مجلس أبوظبي للتعليم، والدكتور عبدالله الكرم المدير العام لهيئة المعرفة والتنمية البشرية بدبي، وعدد من القيادات التربوية بوزارة التربية، وجمع غفير من الأكاديميين والمهتمين في الشأن التعليمي.
بدوره، أشاد معالي حسين بن ابراهيم الحمادي وزير التربية والتعليم، بمجموعة المدارس المكرمة اليوم، لتميزها الواضح في الاختبارات الدولية على مستوى الدولة، وتحقيقها نتائج عالية، مؤكداً أن هذا التفوق هو ما نطمح إليه، ونريد له أن يكون سمة متأصلة لدى جميع مدارس الدولة في الاختبارات الدولية، تحقيقاً لمستهدفات الأجندة الوطنية.
وأكد أن مجلس التعليم والموارد البشرية برئاسة سمو الشيخ عبدالله بن زايد آل نهيان وزير الخارجية والتعاون الدولي، يولي التعليم أهمية قصوى، ويسعى إلى تحقيق أفضل الممارسات التعليمية للنهوض بمستوى التعليم بالدولة، ويأتي هذا التكريم ليشكل محفزاً أساسياً للمدارس في الدولة نحو المضي قدماً في تجويد أدائها وتحقيق التنافسية عبر المخرجات التعليمية عالية الجودة، وتحقيق رؤية وتطلعات القيادة الرشيدة، بما يتعلق بمؤشرات الأجندة الوطنية عبر وصول الدولة ضمن أعلى 20 دولة على مستوى العالم في الاختبارات الدولية بحلول عام 2021.
وقال إن أهمية الاختبارات الدولية تأتي انطلاقاً من استراتيجية تطوير التعليم لوزارة التربية التي تؤكد على أهمية مشاركة طلبة دولة الإمارات في هذه الاختبارات والارتقاء بالمستوى التعليمي، واستشعار مدى التغير نحو الأفضل والإسراع في مواكبة المستجدات، مضيفاً بأن اهتمامات صناع القرار في مجال التعليم غدت أكثر تركيزاً على تطوير إتقان الطلبة للمعارف والمهارات التي ستمكنهم من متابعة التطوير مدى الحياة متسلحين بالمعرفة والمهارات المطلوبة لتحقيق النجاح
وذكر أن الاختبارات الدولية تعد جزءاً لا يتجزأ من عملية التدريس والتعليم، وأحد المداخل المهمة لتطويره، لأهميتها في التعرف إلى التغيرات التي تطرأ على نمو المتعلم، والاهتمام بتنوع طرائق التدريس وتطوير المناهج، لتنمية مهارات التفكير العلمي والفهم القرائي للطلبة، واتاحة الفرصة لتطور مهارات الطلبة الموهوبين، كما تتيح نتائج التقييمات وضع تصور وتقييم لمسار مهم تخطو فيه وزارة التربية خطوات فاعلة للوصول بالنظام التعليمي لدينا ليكون واحداً من النظم الأكثر تقدماً عالمياً ليدخل غمار التنافسية.
وقال إن الهدف من المشاركة في الاختبارات الدولية، تزويد متخذي القرار في الوزارة بمعلومات حول جودة التعليم في الدولة، واتباع قرارات التطوير المناسبة، ووضع النظم والآليات لقياس القدرات والمهارات عبر مقارنة أداء الطلبة بنظرائهم على المستوى العالمي في مواد مختلفة، فضلاً عن تزويد معدي المناهج بمعلومات حول التغييرات المطلوبة في المناهج الدراسية وتطويرها.
وذهب إلى أن الاختبارات الدولية تساعد أيضاً على تقييم معارف ومهارات الطلبة، ومقارنتها عالمياً بالأعداد الضخمة من الطلبة المشاركين من مختلف الدول، وايجاد العلاقة بين مستوى أداء الطالب والعوامل المحيطة به كالمدرسة والبيئة المنزلية والعلاقات الاجتماعية، إضافة إلى قياس التغييرات في مستوى أداء الطلبة مع مرور الوقت، وتسليط الضوء على السياسة التعليمية.
وأثنى معاليه على أداء المدارس المكرمة، التي حققت المطلوب منها في الاختبارات الدولية عن جدارة واستحقاق، مؤكداً أن هذا الإنجاز هو ثمرة عمل دؤوب وجماعي وطموح استثنائي للهيئات التدريسية والادارية ومجهود مميز ورائد للطلبة، وهو ما يبشر بمستوى مرموق لمدارس الدولة في المستقبل القريب.
بدورها أكدت معالي جميلة المهيري وزير دولة لشؤون التعليم العام في كلمتها، أن الاختبارات الدولية، تشكل أفضل أداة فاعلة تقدم لنا المعلومات عن مستوى طلبتنا مقارنة مع أقرانهم في بقية دول العالم.
وأشارت إلى أنها أداة التقييم التي تستخدمها أفضل الأنظمة التعليمية لقياس جودة التعليم في مدارسها، وهي التي وجه صاحب السمو الشيخ محمد بن راشد آل مكتوم رئيس مجلس الوزراء حاكم دبي باعتمادها في الأجندة الوطنية، وأعلن للجميع أننا نريد أن نكون من أفضل الدول أداءً في الاختبارات الدولية.
وقالت إن أكثر من 140 مدرسة في دولة الامارات، أحرزت معدلات أعلى من المعدل الدولي في اختبار TIMSS للصف الرابع، وأكثر من 130 مدرسة أحرزت معدلات أعلى من المعدل الدولي في اختبار TIMSS للصف الثامن، بينما بلغ عدد المدارس في الدولة التي أحرزت معدلات أعلى من المعدل الدولي في دراسة PISA أكثر من 50 مدرسة، ومن هذه المدارس حققت أكثر من 60 مدرسة معدل 550 نقطة أو أعلى في دراسة TIMSS في الصف الرابع والثامن، بينما حققت نفس المعدل أكثر من 20 مدرسة في دراسة PISA.
وذكرت أنه حتى نستطيع أن نعمم الاستفادة من الاختبارات الدولية، وأن يكون لكل مدرسة في الدولة دور ومسؤولية، تم عمل فريق مشترك بين وزارة التربية والتعليم، ومجلس أبوظبي للتعليم، وهيئة المعرفة والتنمية البشرية، لوضع خطة شاملة لجميع مدارس الدولة ترسم لنا المبادرات الأساسية لتحقيق مؤشرات الأجندة الوطنية، وتمكنا معاً في أن نضع اسم دولة الامارات بين أفضل الدول أداءً في الاختبارات الدولية.
وأضافت: إحدى هذه المبادرات منح كل مدرسة في الدولة هدفاً خاص بها في اختبارات TIMSS و PISA، يحدد لها عدد النقاط التي يجب أن تسعى لتحقيقها في الدورات القادمة في هذه الاختبارات، مشيرة إلى أن هذه الاهداف تعد أداة مهمة ستساعدكم في عمليات التقييم الذاتي وفي خططكم التطويرية.
ودعت معاليها المدارس الـ30 التي حققت نتائج مميزة على صعيد الاختبارات الدولية لفتح الأبواب أمام المدارس الأخرى في الدولة، ليتعلموا ويستفيدوا من هذه التجارب الناجحة، وليتبادل الطلبة أفضل التجارب والخبرات التعليمية، مثمنة في الوقت ذاته هذا التميز على صعيد نتائج الاختبارات الدولية، وهو ما سيعزز من الخطوات التي اتخذتها الوزارة لتحقيق أفضل النتائج في هذا السياق.
وانتهت إلى أنه لايزال أمامنا عمل كبير للوصول إلى مبتغانا في مجال الاختبارات الدولية، وهو ما يستدعي تضافر جهود الجميع والعمل بإصرار وحافزية.

I’ve recently had an education in romance comics. In the past I’ve read some of Simon & Kirby’s romance work, but it never really struck a chord with me. For reasons I’ll get to in a moment, I had been seeking out this book, Girls’ Romances #78, for a couple of years, and thanks to an eager eBay seller I managed to snag a copy. I was surprised at how much I enjoyed some of the stories, and even more so, how much I LOVED the artwork.
Here we have Girls’ Romances 78, page 2, panel 5 of 7, attributed to Tony Abruzzo. I love this image. Abruzzo gives the reader just enough information. The driver’s face expresses a hint of the creep the reader will find him to be. The woman’s icy expression belies the battle between her conscience and her emotions, knowing that the object of her passion is no good for her.
While the content of the panel is economical, the style is anything but. The detailed shading on the characters’ faces, the depiction of their hairstyles, the leopard print on the jacket, and even the lines of reflection from the car windows demonstrate Abruzzo’s attention to detail in this drawing. This precision in both technique and content made this panel jump out at me when I first saw it, and I’m not the only one for whom that was the case.
The first time I saw this panel wasn’t in a comic book. Rather, it was on a site dedicated to revealing the original sources of the paintings of Roy Lichtenstein. David Barsalou, creator of Deconstructing Roy Lichtenstein, has gone to great lengths to show the panels on which Roy Lichtenstein based his work, and to give credit to the original artists whenever possible. It’s a fantastic site, and I can’t recommend it highly enough.
I certainly have my personal feelings about the work of Roy Lichtenstein, and I’d be happy to go into them at some other time. Here I’d rather celebrate the work of Tony Abruzzo. Seeing this panel on Barsalou’s site, I was so taken by it that I desperately wanted to see it in it’s original context, thus my quest to get a copy of Girls’ Romances #78. I’m glad I hunted it down. Best of all, the book came in a group with several other romance comics, so don’t be surprised if you see more panels from romance comics on this blog in the future. Not bad for a $20 auction.
Speaking of auctions, In the Car, the Lichtenstein painting based on this Tony Abruzzo work, sold in 2005 for $16.25 million. I think I got the better deal.

OH. Well I like what you've got going on with Deconstructing Roy Lichtenstein. Those cartoonists from the hey day of the excellents - Jack Kirby, Milt Caniff - went and got usurped by Roy Lichtenstein. However, I am still a huge fan of Lichtenstein's work from a conceptual viewpoint.

I was raised Catholic. I attended CCD, took communion, and endured/enjoyed a Catholic high school eduction. Upon my high school graduation, my faith lapsed. I mean, really, who is going to voluntarily attend Catholic mass after being forced to do so once a week for four years? (Turns out, hundreds of thousands of people.) It was as if I threw up and discarded my religious training along with my mortarboard.
I have attended mass less than 10 times in almost 10 years; the familiarity was pleasing but not inspiring. I am not interested in picking up the pieces of my lapsed Catholic faith. I believe in a higher power. I am comfortable with allowing my son to choose and shape his faith as he grows.

These are the results from WAIS-IV (I think) testing done a few years ago, as part of testing for Specific Learning Difficulty. I have Dyspraxia which went unrecognised throughout my eduction - because my high verbal reasoning masked the areas in which I really struggle.
A spiky profile like this - some areas of high ability, some areas of much lower ability - is part of what indicates a SpLD.
My picture completion, block design, and matrix reasoning are unusually good for someone with Dyspraxia.
The National Journal held a town hall meeting at Drake University on October 22nd as part of their series called The Next America: Population 2043, which focuses on issues relating to the nation’s changing demographics.

Throughout two panel discussions, the event featured remarks from education, immigration, and demographic experts as well as representatives from Des Moines Public Schools including Tom Ahart, Vinh Nguyen, and Mike Vukovich. The keynote address was given by, Catherine Lhamon, the Assistant Secretary for Civil Rights at the U.S. Department of Eduction.

ترأس سمو الشيخ عبدالله بن زايد آل نهيان وزير الخارجية والتعاون الدولي رئيس مجلس التعليم والموارد البشرية في أبوظبي الاجتماع الـ 24 للمجلس.
ورحب سموه في بداية الاجتماع بأعضاء المجلس، فيما تم بعد ذلك اعتماد محضر الاجتماع الـ 23 لمجلس التعليم والموارد البشرية.
وأشار سموه إلى يوم زايد الإنساني الذي صادف التاسع عشر من رمضان مطلع هذا الأسبوع، ونوّه إلى أن ذكرى رحيل مؤسس الدولة المغفور له الشيخ زايد بن سلطان آل نهيان، طيب الله ثراه، ستظل راسخة في وجدان أبناء وبنات الإمارات، ومنارة إلهام للعطاء والخير والتسامح وجميع القيم والمبادئ النبيلة التي رسّخها الوالد المؤسّس، والتي عكستها مختلف المبادرات والفعاليات الحكوميّة والمجتمعية التي نظّمتها المؤسسات العامة والخاصة والأهلية في جميع أنحاء دولة الإمارات على مدار الأسبوع.
وقال سموّه أن المغفور له كان مدرسةّ في العمل الإنساني على الصعيد المحلي، والإقليمي والعالمي، حيث امتدت أياديه البيضاء إلى جميع أنحاء العالم، بنظرته التي استشرفت العطاء في كبرى القطاعات الحيويّة مثل الصحّة ومدّه يد العون لجهود البحث قبل عدّة عقود، حتى أصبحت دولة الإمارات اليوم بجهود ودعم قيادة الدولة الرشيدة على مشارف استئصال شلل الأطفال وداء الدودة الغينيّة من العالم كليّاً.
هذا وبالإضافة إلى اهتمام المغفور له بالاستثمار في الثروة البشريّة وتمكينها عن طريق التعليم، والذي شكّل أولويّة قصوى لديه حيث آمن زايد بأن النهوض بالوطن يبدأ من التعليم وأن الدولة أساسها الإنسان. وعلى هذا النهج النيّر تسير القيادة الرشيدة مترجمة رؤية الوالد المؤسّس عبر مختلف المبادرات التي تهدف إلى تحقيق تطوّر فاعل ومستدام للنظام التعليمي ورحلة الفرد من التعليم وحتى التوظيف وفق ما يستجيب لمتطلّباته والمتغيّرات الحياتيّة من حوله.
واستعرضت وزارة التربية والتعليم آخر تحديثات مبادرة "سفراؤنا" ضمن خطة الوزارة لدعم ورعاية المتعلمين والمعلمين والكوادر الأكاديمية والقيادية التربوية، والتي تهدف إلى تطوير قدرات الفئات المذكورة وإكسابهم مهارات القرن الواحد والعشرين، حيث تم إطلاق المبادرة في عام 2017 والتي ضمت حينها فئتين من برامج السفراء هما برامج سفراء الطلبة (سفراء الابتكار وسفراء المستقبل وسفراء العطاء) وبرنامج سفراء المعلمين.
وكانت الوزارة قد استهلت هذه البرامج بإطلاقها برنامج سفراء الابتكار للطلبة، متبوعاً ببرنامج سفراء الابتكار للمعلمين والذي تم تنفيذه على مرحلتين.
واستحدثت الوزارة في عام 2018 ضمن مبادرة "سفراؤنا" فئة جديدة خاصة بسفراء طلبة التعليم العالي، كما أطلقت برنامج سفراء المعلمين بحلّته الجديدة ليحمل مسمى سفراء التعليم. هذا وتستهدف برامج مبادرة سفراؤنا لعام 2018 المخصّصة لطلبة التعليم العام إيفاد 800 من الطلبة الإماراتيين المتفوقين دراسياً والمتميزين سلوكياً للمشاركة في أحد البرامج التدريبية المتخصصة التي تنظمها الوزارة خلال الإجازة الصيفية خارج الدولة في دول رائدة ومتميزة بحسب مجال كل برنامج من البرامج الستة التالية: سفراء الابتكار، وسفراء المستقبل، وسفراء العطاء، وسفراء روائع، وسفراء الدبلوماسية، وسفراء التميّز الرياضي.
كما تستهدف مبادرة سفراؤنا لعام 2018 إيفاد 300 من طلبة التعليم العالي ضمن برنامج سفراء التعليم العالي و 250 من الكوادر التعليمية والقيادية ضمن برنامج سفراء التعليم.
حضر الاجتماع معالي معالي سلطان بن سعيد المنصوري وزير الاقتصاد، ومعالي حسين بن إبراهيم الحمادي وزير التربية والتعليم، ومعالي نورة بنت محمد الكعبي وزيرة الثقافة وتنمية المعرفة، ومعالي ناصر بن ثاني الهاملي وزير الموارد البشرية والتوطين، ومعالي جميلة بنت سالم مصبح المهيري وزيرة دولة لشؤون التعليم العام، ومعالي الدكتور أحمد بن عبد الله حميد بالهول الفلاسي وزير دولة لشؤون التعليم العالي والمهارات المتقدمة وأمين عام المجلس، ومعالي شما بنت سهيل بن فارس المزروعي وزيرة دولة لشؤون الشباب، ومعالي الدكتور علي راشد النعيمي رئيس دائرة التعليم والمعرفة عضو المجلس التنفيذي. كما حضره سعادة الدكتور عبد الله محمد الكرم مدير عام هيئة المعرفة والتنمية البشرية في دبي، والسيد محمد خليفة النعيمي، مدير مكتب شؤون التعليم في ديوان ولي عهد أبوظبي.
