Finally framed and hanged on the wall!

215 x 119 cm, thus we've ran out of any free space on the walls for future puzzles, and we can now embark on doing something useful to the society ;)

Art - Nr. 16270

500 pcs, 48 x 34 cm

I did this puzzle about 3.5 years ago; finally got around to connecting the sections together (on the floor) for a full-size pic. Unfortunately I cannot avoid the sunlight on the left side of the puzzle.

So sorry for the long delay, I am really bad at keeping my flickr page up to date. I completed this puzzle a day after I took the last photo. The sky wasn't too bad as it had enough differentiation to allow you to pick out pieces that went in a certain area. I really enjoy the military battle puzzles as there is so much detail and you can almost feel like your witnessing the event.

1000 pcs, 68 x 48 cm.

Easier than it looks, but still quite challenging, probably my toughest 3000 piece puzzle. I'm glad I upgraded my lighting setup, I don't think I could've done this puzzle several years ago.

John William Waterhouse (April 6, 1849 – February 10, 1917) was an English painter known for working in the Pre-Raphaelite style. He worked several decades after the breakup of the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood, which had seen its heyday in the mid-nineteenth century, leading to his sobriquet "the modern Pre-Raphaelite". Borrowing stylistic influences not only from the earlier Pre-Raphaelites but also from his contemporaries, the Impressionists, his artworks were known for their depictions of women from both ancient Greek mythology and Arthurian legend.

Born in Italy to English parents who were both painters, he later moved to London, where he enrolled in the Royal Academy of Art. He soon began exhibiting at their annual summer exhibitions, focusing on the creation of large canvas works depicting scenes from the daily life and mythology of ancient Greece. Later on in his career he came to embrace the Pre-Raphaelite style of painting despite the fact that it had gone out of fashion in the British art scene several decades before.

Punished by a goddess for her constant chatter, Echo was confined to repeating the words of others. Enamoured of Narcissus, the son of the river god Cephisus and the nymph Liriope, she tried to win his love using fragments of his own speech but he spurned her attentions. Passing by a stream, the beautiful youth caught a glimpse of his reflection is a stream and became transfixed by the lovely image. Believing it to be the form of a nymph, he vainly courted the watery mirage and wasted away through unrequited love. He was transformed into the flower that bears his name and Echo pined away until nothing but her voice remained.

'Sweet Echo, sweetest nymph, that liv'st unseen

Within thy airy shell

By slow Meander's margent green,

And in the violet-embroidered vale

Where the lovelorn nightingale

Nightly to thee her sad song mourneth well:

Canst thou not tell me of a gentle pair

That likest thy Narcissus are?'

Educa Panorama Puzzle (Spain, 2015) No. 16355

Good modern day Educa quality. Not as easy as it looks.

The complete puzzle, photo taken while standing on a kitchen chair. Now it's time for the pieces to go back into their box.

Catalan Atlas Map of 1375 drawn by Abraham Cresques, a Jewish cartographer on the island of Majorca, shows the preliminary stage of European sea voyages to West Africa, as indicated by the ship that appears to approach the camel. Also, the map shows many of the principal points of trans-Saharan trade, including a picture of Mansa Musa, emperor of Mali, holding a gold nugget in his right hand.

The Garden of Earthly Delights (Educa, 9000 pcs.), a detail of the right panel.

This was another fun puzzle and it kind of had a Disney quality to it with the squirrels running around on the floor. It is based on a painting by Hiro Tanikawa.

This was a tough one! I'm missing a piece, but I filled out the missing piece form on Educa's website, so we'll see how that works. (4 to 6 weeks for the missing piece to arrive). I have more pics in my photostream. The pics are too bright, but I'll replace them when I get my missing piece. Update: I found my missing piece, so I now have a complete puzzle :-D

This appears to be 4 independent works of the artist Haruyo Morita brought together in a Mucha style presentation. Very fun puzzle and very beautiful. Notice the tribute to Hokusai?

Certainly more colorful than the Pompei fresco. Educa rarely disappoints you.

Giulio Romano (c. 1499 – 1 November 1546) was an Italian painter and architect. A pupil of Raphael, his stylistic deviations from high Renaissance classicism help define the 16th-century style known as Mannerism. Giulio's drawings have long been treasured by collectors; contemporary prints of them engraved by Marcantonio Raimondi were a significant contribution to the spread of 16th-century Italian style throughout Europe.

The nine muses of Greek mythology represent the arts: epic poetry, history, love poetry, song, tragedy, hymns, dance, comedy, and astronomy. The puzzle is a detail of the painting with the underlying text removed.

My biggest mixed bags puzzle to date. It's been very tough. Took me seven months to assemble.

Jheronimus Bosch: The Garden of Earthly Delights.

My favorite Educa so far (although I have yet to do the 18.000 pcs Altarpiece by van der Weyden).

Here's the completed image. It's the best photo I can take at the moment. I'd have to clear some floor space and reassemble it on the floor to get the best photo. Unfortunately my knees are shot, as I've been working on the roof on all fours for the past few days. Perhaps in the coming days/weeks i can take a better photograph.

This great puzzle was put together during 5 weeks in January-February this year. For the sake of provenance I have uploaded a number of photos in my flickr. I wish I had had my new Canon back then as the photos are rather inferior. Not only is it a large puzzle but the light in winter was also poor.

Educa No. 15172 (2012). 156 x 107cm. One bag, 22 days.

Eventually completed although I have carelessly lost 3 pieces. This is my first large completed Educa puzzle. The finished puzzle looks great but I found the puzzle cut a little monotonous. The artwork itself provided plenty of interest.

Despite a small study for puzzling, I am going to attempt a 5000 piece puzzle next ......

A difficult puzzle for me, I'm glad I did it in sections. The last section was particularly tough, a lot of dark pieces to deal with. It's a beautiful puzzle, though, well worth the effort. It's always hard to take a photo of a puzzle this size. I have a few other pics on my photostream for those interested.

Marinus van Reymerswaele received later the name of the city of Reimerswaal, Netherlands, where he was born and where he worked, at least from 1533-1540. In the latter year he moved to Goes, where he died around 1546. He is also named Marinus de Seeu (from Zeeland, a province of the Netherlands). He studied at the University of Leuven (1504) and was trained as a painter in Antwerp (1509). His name is known from a small number of signed panels. A number of other paintings are attributed to Marinus on stylistic grounds.

A beautiful puzzle with a lot of detail. Unfortunately, it's missing 2 pieces, but for a 30 year old used puzzle I'm okay with that. I used the pattern to assemble the 'pages', as I still have a slew of puzzles I want to assemble while I'm still young :-D
