Jayhawks, did you see the super moon eclipse Sunday? Tony Raper, a junior in mechanical engineering, was studying for a Mechanics of Materials test when he remembered it was time for the eclipse. Grabbing his camera and tripod, he drove to the Hill for a moonlit study break. Raper shared his technique for other photographers: He shot this on a 1.3 exposure at f9.0, 800 ISO, and 150mm.
Once the eclipse was over, it was back to Spahr Library. We hope you did well on your test, Tony!
Did you get a chance to #exploreKU under the #SuperBloodMoon?
This is a simulation which I hope to replace with something real. It shows what the annular eclipse will look like from Vancouver Canada.

El próximo eclipse lunar total central será el 15 de abril del 2014.
The total lunar eclipse took place on June 15, 2011. It is the first of two total lunar eclipses in 2011, the second will occur on December 10. It is relatively rare a total lunar eclipse when the moon passes through the center of the Earth's shadow. The last total lunar eclipse was on February 20, 2008. The next total lunar eclipse center is 15 April 2014.
The partial annual solar eclipse as seen from the central coast of California.
While not the full eclipse I was just happy that the Marine layer wasn't present.
It helps to have a tall person to hold the pegboard so we can get a good photo of the cool crescent-shaped projections of the eclipse.

Tonight's Eclipse - ok, so not quite as effective as the one seen in the US, but still great to see and photograph, being a partial allowed a great view of the sunspots and I rather liked the cloud moving across the sun...
PNNL staff in Richland and Seattle watch the eclipse, which is the first one visible across the contiguous United States in 38 years.

Thy shadow, Earth, from Pole to Central Sea,
Now steals along upon the Moon's meek shine
In even monochrome and curving line
Of imperturbable serenity.
How shall I link such sun-cast symmetry
With the torn troubled form I know as thine,
That profile, placid as a brow divine,
With continents of moil and misery?
And can immense Mortality but throw
So small a shade, and Heaven's high human scheme
Be hemmed within the coasts yon arc implies?
Is such the stellar gauge of earthly show,
Nation at war with nation, brains that teem,
Heroes, and women fairer than the skies?
