The obligatory eclipse shot. Not the best one you will see on flickr, but hopefully not the worst either.
As the eclipse neared its peak point, the sliver of sun began to rotate as the moon was passing slightly off-center to the sun. This made it possible to judge the exact peak point as the crescent would have rotated 90 degrees from its original orientation at that point in transit. I saved the 12th frame for that moment to catch the eclipse at its peak.
This is the same image as this earlier posting, but scanned directly from the negative instead of from a paper print. I was able to remove some flare from this image that I had not been able to deal with in printing on paper a couple of decades ago.

On August 21, 2017 the Night Sky Festival went out with a flare as a partial solar eclipse occurred over Shenandoah National Park. Visitors young and old gathered at Byrd Visitor Center to experience the wonder of this natural phenomenon together.
Time lapse as the moon moves away from the sun using mylar as a filter. I used an Ioptron skytracker to move with the sun but I didn't have time to set it properly and the wind kept jerking the picture.

The Sun was partly eclipsed by the Moon at sunrise, but cloud was in the way until short before the end of eclipse, around 09:30 UT. This unprocessed image was taken with 800 mm focal length, f/12.6, from Blackford Hill, Edinburgh. Due to cloud no filter could/needed to be used. The leftmost part of the Sun is obscured by the Moon.

Eclipses are a strange thing.. Temperature drops very fast, gets darker and shadows go crazy.
