This eclipse occurred with a "supermoon", where the moon is near its minimum distance from the earth. During the eclipse the moon appears rust-coloured as other colours from the spectrum of sunlight are more easily scattered by the earth's atmosphere than red light.
3:42 a.m. - hand held
And all that is now
And all that is gone
And all that's to come
And everything under the sun is in tune
But the sun is eclipsed by the moon
This isn't as good as I would have liked but I had a lot of excuses.
1. The full eclipse happened below the horizon on the east coast of the US.
2. It was still daylight when the moon rose.
3. There were alot of things in the way on the horizon.
4. It was intermittantly cloudy.
5. I forgot there was an eclipse tonight until it was half over.
6. My wife was putting dinner on the table when I remembered.
7. My vision sucks and I couldn't get the focus right.
8. I was totally guessing at the exposures and couldn't tell how I was doing without downloading the images into my computer.
9. The damn moon kept moving.
10. My dog kept bumping the tripod.
11. Dinner got cold.
It is interesting how it changed colors as the eclipse progressed. This has to do with the umbra and the penumbra or something like that according to what I can't remember from what I read in this morning's paper.
If you really want to know, this is definatly not the place to find out. But remember everything you read on the internet is true.

I’ll add a trickle to the overflowing web of eclipse photos. It was pretty cool to see. Here we had 90.5% coverage. We sure got lucky with the weather. It was cloudy… then raining… then 10 minutes after the peak eclipse, the clouds cleared!

86% and cloudy here in North Carolina, but made for some wonderful photography.
Filter was too little when largely visible, too much when largely eclipsed, finally gave up and went from M to Av.
