Michelangelo - He is labeled as "The Wild One" and "The Party Dude" as he is the most "fun" out of all the turtles. He is also very impulsive, extremely social, and wants the outside world (Humans) to accept him and his brothers. He is the first of the turtles to taste pizza and is very proud of his talent for naming things. probably more fun-loving than his brothers, he became a popular culture incarnation of the TMNT, coining most of their catch phrases; hence, he is possibly the most famous Turtle. Because of his more carefree nature, most seem to view Michelangelo as the youngest of the Ninja Turtles, although they are all actually roughly the same age.

His bandanna is typically portrayed as orange, his favorite color (although all four Turtles originally wore red bandannas) Mikey is considerably the most athletic of his brothers and is considered the fastest with the most talent. His weapons are two nunchaku; however, he has also been portrayed using other weapons, such as grappling hooks and tonfas. One of them can convert into a kusarigama which he can use not only for offense in battle, but for defense. These weapons match his flexible like abilities when it comes to battle.

Nunchaku are illegal in many places, so some of the TV show creators had to avoided using them.

While he's not as focused as Leo, strong like Raph, or smart as Donnie, Mikey's talent and unpredictability make up for it. Splinter considers Mikey the one with the most potential to be even more skilled as a ninja then his three brothers combined. Michelangelo is stealthy, can hide in the shadows, sneak around without being detected.

In the original comic books, Michelangelo was initially depicted as fun-loving, carefree, and, while not as aggressive as Raphael, was always ready to fight. Michelangelo's one-shot in 1985 ruled out most of the traits that have become synonymous with the character, such as his playfulness, empathy, and easygoing nature. In the one-shot story, Michelangelo adopts a stray cat (which he names Klunk) and also stops thieves from stealing toys meant for orphaned children.

Later, after their defeat of the Foot Clan the Turtles, Splinter, April O'Neil, and Casey Jones retreat to a farm house in Northampton, Massachusetts. While there, April is worried that Michelangelo is not himself. He spends his days in the barn taking out his aggression on a punching bag. A scene shows him lashing out at his surroundings and repeatedly punching the wall of the barn until it breaks, then collapsing. The end of the story implies that Michelangelo's sorrow and frustration have been resolved, as subsequent issues restore Michelangelo's more relaxed, optimistic personality.

It is during the group's time at the farm we learn that Michelangelo also has an interest in comic books, specifically ones involving superheroes.

Michelangelo was not given an especially large role in the 1984 comic series Volumes 1 and 2. His relatively small role was probably due to the need to establish Leonardo's role as "leader" along with the fact that Donatello was Peter Laird's favorite Turtle, and Raphael was Kevin Eastman's favorite.

Michelangelo's personality became strongly established in the 1987 animated series. He was often seen as a "Party Dude", which accounts for only part of his personality otherwise. As the "party dude", he usually didn't have much input in the team's plans, although he was still just as active as his brothers. He typically spent much of his time joking and socializing with other characters. He has a fondness for pizza, even beyond that of the other Turtles; in the Season 3 episode "Cowabunga, Shredhead", his pizza cravings annoyed the others so much that Splinter hypnotized him into refusing and denouncing pizza whenever the very word was mentioned, although the hypnosis was lifted at the end of the episode.

Michelangelo received his distinctive voice, which has been imitated in other portrayals of him, in the 1990 series. Employing a "surfer slang" vocabulary, he customarily spoke with a unique Californian surfer accent. It is likely that the voicing simply emphasized his laid-back and somewhat innocent attitude. Michelangelo's voice actor was Townsend Coleman in the 1987 series' original English language version and Johnny Castro in the 25th anniversary movie Turtles Forever.

He is named after Michelangelo Buonarroti, the Renaissance artist.

Michelangelo's trademark phrase in this series is the famous "Cowabunga" expression that became a pop culture phenomenon.

Kevin Eastman's original "ninja turtle" concept drawing (1983) portrayed an unnamed turtle with nunchaku strapped to its arms, some consider Michelangelo to be the first Ninja Turtle created.

.... Many people take part in this unique and lively pantomime, there are pastors by mule or donkey, which give the people some pieces of bread, wine and sausages, there are ladies with sweet looks that have beautiful smiles, there are horsemen riding on colts, throwing sweets on bystanders, there are horrific figures like Fofori, who kidnap the rich by forcing them to pay a symbolic offering, there are the Wizards, who finally found the treasure (a chamber pot full of macaroni, drinking wine from a container of urine), there is the General Garibaldi supported by his soldiers, there are their enemies the Turks, there is 'U Remitu (the hermit) ... there are the bomb squad .. .and much others figures....! (Here the ceremony of transfer of power from the Master of the Field of last year to Master of this year 2016 ...) .... ....) ....

Mezzojuso was built by the Albanians, Arbëreshëc, mostly military people established near an uninhabited house, during the migration of Albanians in Italy; on1501 they came from Albania and they had brought with them their language, customs and the Orthodox rite. From 2 to 4 August 1862 Mezzojuso welcomes Garibaldi: this is to reconnect this long and short at the same time my report, to some passages of this feast: the characteristic carnival of Mezzojuso. The "Master of Field" is the name of this carnival representation and it take the name from the principal character: this is a love story, albeit in key easygoing, which contains the re-enactment of the assault the Count of Modica made to the Castle to capture the White Queen of Navarra. The representation begins with the arrival of the royal procession, made up of the King, the Queen, by the dignitaries of the Court, from the Dame, the Secretary, by guards and by the Moors, and the "Master of Home" soul procession . Performed a dance in the square, the group go up on a stage (which is the castle); after inside the "castle" begins a dance party; therefore appear masks tied to tradition, u Rimitu, the Wizards, the gardener; comes the Master of Field, wearing a red wax mask with a hooked nose and prominent lower lip, a white shirt full of colored ribbons, pants and red coat, he squirms and shake, with his left arm to the side and in the right arm he brings a short wooden sword. Appear numerous characters, the Drummer, the Ambassador, Garibaldi and his Boys, the Captain of Artillery, the Baron and Baroness on two donkeys, followed by their men on horses and mules loaded with firewood, trunks, various paraphernalia for manufacturing cheese, so the gardener, with laurel wreaths, then the Cavalry, formed by a dozen knights who throw sweets over the spectators. The "Foforio" kidnap the wealthy and releases them after paying a small ransom (in return will be able to eat and drink at will). There are Magicians who go in search of "Treasure" and they finally found it: a bedpan full of macaroni and sausage, shouting "forio forio maccarrunario" eat them with their hands. The war rages, with Garibaldi and his Boys clashes against the Saracens (with imaginative alienation of historical periods); The Master of Field goes up on the scale that leads to the castle, meets with the King that hurts him on the head, and he falls backward (from a good height ...) to be taken from the boys that in the meantime they were prepared under the stairs; But the Master of Field is not dead and he healed his wounds, he with army of Garibaldi climb stealthily for "fake scale" and, taking advantage of the moment of confusion, they surrounding the Court and bind the King: the Field of Master removes the mask, finally embracing the Queen, managing to crown their secret dream of love, and so ends the great feast of Mezzojuso, with the procession that will march in the streets the country and ... the king in chains....

[21/365] Contrasts.

Yesterday was easygoing. A hectic day today!

Yesterday my body was still while driving the car. Today I went by bicycle and had to use my body.

Haven’t trained a single time since I started this Project 365. Today I went to the climbing gym.

Until now I have put too much pressure on myself to present perfect good images on this project 365 and got tired of it. From now on I will focus on having fun and let the good pictures come by themselves.

Long nights without sleep will be replaced by good quality sleep.

Contrasts…

Today’s picture has a lot of contrasts:

Warm and cold color

Lights and shadows

In focus and out of focus

Steel and rust ;)

Take care!

The Halifax Thespians society was founded in October 1927. The first production was at the former Theatre Royal in Halifax. They later played at the Marlborough Hall (now the YMCA), and from 1931 performed regularly at the Alexander Hall.

During the war (1935~1945) they produced 3 or 4 plays each year at the former Heath school (Heath Grammar School for Boys). The society had been looking for a place of its own before the war. In 1943 the opportunity arose when the final service was held at the Hanover Methodist Chapel. In 1945 the Thespians were able to purchase the building for ?2,500, and expected to pay ?10,000 for conversion and equipment.

In 1946 the Thespians moved into the building. The vestry (now the foyer) was used for rehearsals. The room downstairs was used for meetings, wardrobe, and a kitchen. This is now the bar. An interesting feature of the foyer is the box office, which had been the pay office at John Crossley's Dean Clough Mills in Halifax.

Much of the work to form a theatre from the chapel was carried out by the members as labour and materials were in short supply at the end of the war.

THE AUDITORIUM

The seating capacity is 273. The seats are the original ones from 1949 but were refurbished in 1984. The names on the seats are the first donors in 1949 and then those in 1984.

THE STAGE

A conventional proscenium frames the acting area; the arch is 26 feet wide and the stage is 18 feet from front to back. Cloths and scenery can be flown out of sight. There are two lighting bars above the stage and a spot bar is on the house side of the curtain. Lighting and sound are operated from the control room above the alcove at the rear of the auditorium.

The scenery dock below the stage is to store scenery and timber. Building is done on stage, but some construction takes place here.

There are dressing rooms downstairs for changing and hanging of costumes during a production.

NEW ACCOMODATION

A major development took place in 1995 with construction of the Hanover Street entrance, with a ramp and easygoing steps to enable people with mobility problems and of course wheelchairs to access the theatre. This followed a period of intense fund-raising and was also made possible by grants from the Sports & Arts Foundation, Access for the disabled, Calderdale Council, and many local firms. The coffee lounge and the properties room are located beneath the entrance ramp.

THE BAR

A covenant between the Thespian trustees and the trustees of the chapel when the premises transferred precluded the sale of alcohol on the premises. In 1977 all surviving parties to the covenant agreed to the setting up of a bar. The revenue from the bar enables the Thespians to update the facilities for the benefit of the members and public.

CHIEF WARRANT OFFICER John C. McKinney, riding the Lipizanner and Colonel Harvey H. Perritt Jr., on the other mount review the troops at McKinney’s retirement ceremony held Tuesday at Fort Myer. McKinney was caisson platoon leader during the final 15 years of his 33 year career. Perritt is the commander of the 3rd US Infantry (The Old Guard).

Story:

As he reviewed the troops from a beautiful Lippizaner stallion-Chief Warrant Officer John C. McKinney ended 33 years army service in both enlisted and warrant ranks.

McKinney rode his favorite horse, Beja Conversano in a retirement ceremony at north area Ft. Myer’s Summerall field on Tuesday.

Since 1959, he has led the Caisson Platoon, 1st Battalion (Re-inforced) 3d Infantry (The Old Guard) at Ft. Myer. The platoon is the only active Army unit authorized horses

As platoon leader he was responsible for the conduct of his 30 men and 30 horses. The platoon takes part in military funerals at Arlington National Cemetery, state funerals, and Army retirement ceremonies. They also participate in military weddings, historical ceremonies at Mt. Vernon, Va, and special military pageants performed by 3d Infantry and U.S. Army Band.

Poised and easygoing

Coordinating the platoon's contributions to state funerals and high-ranking military officials could be pressure-packed, but it doesn't seem to bother the poised McKinney.

His congenial, easy-going attitude wris picked up during childhood years on a farm in Mills Spring, N. C.

As the 54 year-old horse lover speaks in a quiet southern drawl, he is a picture of the days of the horse-drawn Army.

McKinney didn't expect to see any more mules when he loft his farm to join the Army in 1939

Ironically he was assigned to Battery C, 4th Field Artillery Battalion (Pack) Ft. Bragg, N.C., where he finished basic training on the job. His N.C. assignment was the first in a long series of assignments to Army riding schools, pack-artillery training center, and mule pack artillery units from Ft. Sill, Okla, to combat in the Burma-China-India theater in World War

II.

Muleskinner in India

Transporting arms and ammunition on mules, many times with snow up to his waist, was back-breaking work. Fourteen of his first 18 years were spent as a muleskinner. He worked in motorpool and with missiles during the other four years.

McKinney feels today's Army is a big challenge as well as a great opportunity for a soldier.

"I don't think enough men feel that way. It's a good way to achieve something worthwhile.

The more a person puts into the Army, the more he'll get out of it, he said.

McKinney has participated in state funerais of Herbert Hoover, John F. Kennedy, Dwight D. Eisenhower, Lyndon B. Johnson and Douglas MacArthur, and over 400 others.

"I couldn't pick the most memorable funeral-those in Arlington Cemetery were just as important as State funerals," be said. "However, the Kennedy funeral caught unexpected."

Horse and rider

His job is challenging because turnover in personnel, it's hard to keep adequately trained." Turnovers are 25 FT cent today, says McKinney and were whopping 80 per cent during the Vietnamese conflict.

Big turnovers cause problems for the horses, too.

“The become proficient by repetition with the same rider. Here that is impossible to achieve because a man doesn't work with me horse all the time," he said

McKinney tries to match the caliber of rider and horse. The more experienced rider get an experienced mount and vice versa

McKinney prefers to instruct men without any prior riding experience. He said the majority of men coming here know how to ride Western and we have to change them to English style

Reflecting on his military career, Mc said "I had to do it over again. I wouldn't change anything. My wife and family were treated well, and we enjoyed the Army years The time went very fast

McKinney has no immediate future plans Eventually he hopes to work with horses du right now isn't in a hurry to decide.

"Retirement is not as easy as everyone thinks. It's hard to forget 3 years of one's life.”

The "Foforio" kidnap the wealthy and releases them after paying a small ransom (in return will be able to eat and drink at will). .... Many people take part in this unique and lively pantomime, there are pastors by mule or donkey, which give the people some pieces of bread, wine and sausages, there are ladies with sweet looks that have beautiful smiles, there are horsemen riding on colts, throwing sweets on bystanders, there are horrific figures like Fofori, who kidnap the rich by forcing them to pay a symbolic offering, there are the Wizards, who finally found the treasure (a chamber pot full of macaroni, drinking wine from a container of urine), there is the Genral Garibaldi supported by his soldiers, there are their enemies the Turks, there is 'U Remitu (the hermit) ... there are the bomb squad .. .and much others figures....! (Here the dignitaries of the Royal Court ... ) .....

On the T.V. series TaleSpin, Louie owns "Louie's", an island bar not far from Cape Suzette, where most pilots hang out and refuel their planes, especially Baloo. Squat, hairy, and always quick with a wisecrack or song, Louie is one of the most colorful characters a pilot will ever meet. The scat-singing, tree-swinging owner of Louie's Place, Louie has made a name for himself by transforming a remote South Seas island into a haven for weary cargo pilots the world over. With his outgoing personality and party-loving nature, Louie has become the friend and familiar of every thirsty hedgehopper from Cape Suzette to Thembria.

Little is known about Louie prior to the establishment of his club and rise to stardom-of-sorts. Reportedly raised in Cape Suzette, he has never mentioned anything about his family. In fact, Louie's only known relative is the wild, party-loving ace pilot Louise L'amour, five-time winner of the Scatmandu Championship Air Race (and one family tie Louie would prefer to forget).

Working as a small-time entertainer in Cape Suzette, Louie was a gifted musician and expert bartender. Drifting from one nightclub to the next, Louie and a group of friends performed a few numbers per night and mixed fruit-juice cocktails afterward. Eventually, Louie came up with an idea for a place of his own, a jungle-themed nightclub that would serve Louie's special blend of scat music and refreshments. It was a move several colleagues felt would ruin his career, but Louie was willing to take the chance.

Scrounging every last penny of his hard-earned savings, Louie acquired a remote island property in the middle of the South Seas, several miles away from Cape Suzette. Lush and unexplored, the island was the perfect setting for his dream club and was conveniently situated near local air shipping routes. Building around an old sailing ship wreck on the shore, Louie constructed his club piece by piece with the help of several friends and fellow band members. Five years later, Louie's Place has become the "garden spot of the South Seas" and its owner a celebrity among pilots everywhere.

Louie is a born musician, always marching to his own beat. Easygoing and carefree, he breezes through life much like his longtime pal Baloo. His speciality is band music and singing — particularly with scat lyrics — and Louie has been known to take the stage himself during overnight jam sessions at his club. Louie's life revolves around music and partying; even his speech has a rhyming, somewhat musical quality.

Louie is also an expert when it comes to bartending, a skill which he displays with remarkable speed and flourish. His fruit drinks and desserts are world-famous, especially his flaming "Krakatoa Special". He is also known for making delicious pizzas — although not with anchovies, the only food that Louie is allergic to.

Louie values good times and friendship above all else. Even though he barely manages to squeeze a living out of his club, Louie cherishes Louie's Place as the symbol of the things he holds dear — mirth, music, and good friends. No amount of money can replace that for him. While this means Louie has turned down several lucrative offers for his club, it also reveals him to be a very devoted and sentimental person.

Of course, Louie is never lacking in friends. He has a special place in his heart for the flyers who "stuck with him like a bad habit" through the first difficult years of his club, and made Louie's Place what it is today. He values their friendship, especially the friendship of his "main man" Baloo, Louie's oldest pal and one of his first customers. Baloo and Louie have been friends through thick and thin, sharing many adventures together during Baloo's days as a freelance pilot. Baloo still frequents Louie's Place as a regular customer, a favor which Louie is glad to return by overlooking Baloo's hefty tab.

Louie's list of friends has since broadened to include the whole Higher for Hire crew. They are special friends of Louie's, particularly Ms. Rebecca Cunningham — although she loudly and repeatedly claims there is nothing between her and that "pile of matted fur." Louie shares Baloo's weakness for beautiful women. While atrociously uncouth at times, around females Louie acts charming and gracious (and highly competitive if Baloo's interested in the same pretty face).

After five years, Louie's Place has grown from a deserted island into the single most heavily-trafficked spot in the South Seas. However, no matter how popular his club becomes, Louie will always be the same scruffy orangutan he is.

(Here the ceremony of transfer of power from the Master of the Field of last year to Master of this year 2016 ...) .... ....) ....

Bunkers are everywhere in Albania. They were the key defense system during the communist dictatorship of Enver Hoxha.

A figure I found stated that there was one bunker for every FOUR Albanians. The architect is rumoured to have been used for testing the bunker's defense capabilities against live rounds of artillery and tank fire. According to the same story, he survived.

This shot was taken on the long bus journey from Tirana to Skopje, Macedonia. The bus took a long tour around the country, even visiting the coast. Add to that air conditioning not working and a very noisy engine and you can start to imagine what a day that was. Luckily there was a lot to see from the window and easygoing people travelling.

We only made it to Skopje late on the 27th of July. You can imagine our relief when our Hotel Imperial turned out to be a lovely hotel in a nice embassy neighborhood.

I followed a path between fields and jungle from Oicha (pron. Weecha) towards this clearing with directions from locals. I spent a few days with these pygmies, sleeping in Oicha. They were very easygoing, fun people - one guy would do a little dance for me in camp if he sensed I was bored (something like a bird dance with his wrist over his bum, moving his hand like it was a tail) while the rest would sing and clap. A couple of locals who passed by camp made a point to tell them that I should pay them good $ if I took any photos of them, (this photo was taken before this) and so I did pay a bit for a few photos of them lined up with wooden expressions. But aside from that they never asked me for $ or for anything, except for whatever I could spare from my medical kit, and I can't remember any other group of strangers making me feel more welcome in their home than they did.

- Just before this was taken we heard screams from kids at a swimming hole nearby, ran over, there was some commotion, and the men returned with this viper. They ate it that night after cutting off the head and giving it to me for a souvenir. We tried to dry it out on a stick by the fire, then I kept it wrapped up in my medical kit and sucessfully smuggled it home through Israeli customs (I flew return to Nairobi via Tel Aviv). Again I was 23 at the time, not that that's any excuse.

- Taken with slide film, the end of a roll used with the gorillas.

- Much of this area came under fire a few years after I was here, and I've read estimates that @ 5 million died in the mid-to-late 90s in Rwanda and in the eastern DRC/former Zaire, the highest death toll in any war or otherwise by far anywhere since WWII, a war with Coltan and other minerals at its root. Coltan's an acronym for 2 minerals which conduct electricity very efficienty and which are used in most (all?) cell-phones. Once cell-phone production ramped up in the early 90s, coltan became very important of course, and I've read that @ 80% was found in eastern Zaire/DRC. The war in Rwanda and the massacres of Tutsis and 'moderate Hutus' by the vast Hutu majority (and by Tutsis as well, although the western media would never say so, but they did take power) and the amazing success of the Tutsis in reclaiming power led to the invasion of eastern Zaire to find and flush out fleeing Hutu rebels, and became a vast mining operation in the skin of a war. The Tutsis had been ousted years earlier, and represent less than 10 % of the tribal composition of Rwanda, whereas the Hutus are @ 85 %. The Tutsis had been appointed as overlords by European colonial powers decades earlier, and Kagame admits that his militias received training from the CIA in SW Uganda, and which was going down when I was here. They marched in from the north in 94, many ethnic Tutsis were massacred in the north and elsewhere by Hutus, but it's not clear what percentage of Hutus were killed by these Tutsi militias. The Tutsis took power after all, in spite of the amazing disparity in the numbers who would support Kagame and his militias and the fact that he could never be democratically elected (w/o computer voting machines at any rate), and their new authority was immediately recognized by the west without question as so many had been massacred, they were victims of a 'genocide', and the reporting was so poor. If the public had only known that the Tutsis represent less than 10% of the Rwandan population, and the Hutus 85%, and that the Tutsis had ruled the Hutus brutally for decades, more questions might have been asked. But the Tutsi military almost immediately marched west into the land of Coltan (and of gold and many other lovely minerals) to seek out Hutus, and the flow of Coltan and the clear-cutting of rainforest and mayhem and mass murder ramped right up. I declined to see the film 'Hotel Rwanda' when it came out as I knew I wouldn't enjoy the 1/2-truths and propaganda. (The only film in popular culture that I've seen that touches on part of the truth, but only in a segment near the end, is 'Salt of the Earth', the wonderful documentary about Brazilian photographer Sebastiao Salgado who traveled and recorded what he saw here in the mid-90s. I took my Mom to see it, and at the end credits I said "I'm so jealous", and she said "I know!" Here's a clip with samples of Salgado's photography in Africa: www.youtube.com/watch?v=FdcqTIUIqu0 , but I can't find the film segment on youtube I'm referring to.)

- Again, there's no doubt that many Tutsis were massacred, but Hutus were murdered en masse as well by Tutsis, the Tutsis took power with some help from the CIA according to their leader Kagame, and Kellogg, Brown and Root (Cheney's co.) soon set up shop there. Rwanda's now a firm 'ally' of the west. The truth behind this whole mess and what came to pass is so evil and momentous that I shouldn't be surprised it's still only whispered about.

- After writing all that as context, I'll add that I think it's likely that the pygmies who I met and hiked and lived with here died or fled only a few years after this was taken.

Just had a mini 'heatwave' ( Yes, in March and in the U.K "shock horror" )

... and have decided to dye my hair another colour later in the year, the sun has lightened it a little bit already.

So being a Woman ( We are always allowed to change our minds with hair colour ) I might change the colour, again ~lil laugh then a smile~ it might also help with all that I am suffering in my personal life, perhaps help, give a boost to fight on, as fighting the toughest fight in my life now.

So, as many understand, I am doing my best to cling onto anything that helps me hold on.

ok as for hair - I mainly wear my hair back or up, in a bun or even a single herringbone... but.wearing my b-clip and thick scrunchy in this pic. ( Pic taken kindly by Linda at mc's, my twice monthly coffee trip, few hours out of four walls.)

Hair is regaining condition at long last, still fine 'angel hair ' tho, in pic looks thicker as my hair is naturally wavy / tousled, however the back has always looked and felt thicker ~smile~

....but ,am aware with bereavement, my immune system and illness it may 'go' again or deteriorate at anytime ~shrugs a shoulder an gives a sad smile~...

Anyway, I still prefer my hair longer, easier and nicer. fingers crossed it stays ok, depends on health and circumstance...so with what has happened, the outcome thus far is not looking good, evenmoreso after last few months.

I am totally aware my health will suffer as things begin to take their toll.

I miss and want my mum, she was my absolute world, best friend, mum, regardless that she wasn't my blood mother, she was my mum, my everything.

Well, those that can see and read about her in my pictures posted of her for my friends only, know that. I would have died for her and I can not wait to be with her again and, also all others, both human and animal, that I loved, cared and adored - and vice versa.

Just to be held, loved and cared for again. Wrapped in loving arms.

From Edmunds (http://www.edmunds.com/toyota/tundra/2007/review.html) -

Since its 2000 introduction, the Toyota Tundra has served mainly recreational pickup truck buyers. Not quite full-size in dimensions or work capacity, the original Tundra appealed to those seeking an easy-to-drive commuter vehicle capable of handling weekend trips to the hardware store. But with the Tundra's smallish V8 and low tow rating, Toyota was hard-pressed to attract more serious truck people, namely independent contractors and those who haul heavier payloads and trailers. So these shoppers continued to buy the larger, stronger domestic-brand entries. That's likely to change in 2007. Toyota has completely redesigned the Tundra, creating a truck of true full-size proportions. With a stout frame, three cab sizes, three bed lengths and three engines, including a new 5.7-liter V8, the 2007 Toyota Tundra stands on equal footing with all of the traditional Big Three pickups.

With the wider variety of configurations, it's much easier to equip a 2007 Tundra for dual use as a work-site vehicle and family hauler. The medium-size Double Cab, which is now the extended-cab version of the Tundra, is as large as many competitors' crew cabs, while the massive Tundra CrewMax has the roomiest crew cab in the full-size segment, surpassing even Dodge's MegaCab in this regard. Although the CrewMax comes with only a 5.5-foot bed, Toyota gives Tundra Regular Cab and Double Cab buyers the option of either a 6.5-foot or 8-foot bed -- a level of flexibility previously seen only from the domestic manufacturers. You'll find items like a six-speed automatic transmission, stability control and side curtain airbags on the standard equipment list of all '07 Tundras, while useful features like a bed rail system (with adjustable tie-down cleats), extendable towing mirrors and a backup camera are on the options sheet.

Any way you look at it, the 2007 Toyota Tundra is a remarkable truck, excelling in all the areas in which its predecessor fell short. For full-size truck buyers with serious towing and hauling requirements, it's a must-drive: It's just as quick (and in many cases, quicker) than its competitors, including the Chevrolet Silverado/GMC Sierra twins, Dodge Ram, Ford F-150 and Nissan Titan, and its six-speed transmission gives it an advantage over many of these trucks when there's a trailer hitched to the back. It also boasts generous interior room and a wide availability of features.

For those who need a full-size truck that's durable enough to take a beating, as opposed to a comfy daily driver, the 2007 Toyota Tundra is certainly one of the top contenders in the half-ton class. However, in Toyota's bid to go after the hard-core crowd, the company risks putting off buyers who liked the original Tundra's easygoing demeanor. While the new truck's road manners are polished, it feels much bigger behind the wheel and it doesn't hold a significant advantage over its peers in the ride and handling department. It's generally comfortable and quiet, but by no means does it drive like a Camry. In addition, compared to the upscale interior treatments in GM's pickups, the Tundra's cabin comes off as plasticky and utilitarian. Depending on your priorities, you may want to shop around a bit before buying a Tundra.

Our horses being led back to their stables after a ride at Klimovka, East Kazakhstan.

They were soft and gentle; ideal for novices like us. The guide was also so kind and easygoing - tolerant of our poor Russian language skills, and our lack of horse control skills :)

We stayed at Klimovka for four nights, and it was very, very hard to leave - the mountains, fresh air, and much more made it a super relaxing spot.

Three weeks before I'd seen this woman smoking in a doorway on Damen Avenue.

I took a couple of shots as I walked by... and none of them came out.

They got filed in the 'one's that got away' file.

She seemed to enjoy the minutes she'd smoke there in that doorway while she watched the street life go by... there was something thoughtful about her demeanor.

Saturday night I saw her again and I was determined to make up for my bad exposures previously.

I'd just started shooting her when I got attacked by a couple of drunks from behind.

Actually four of them... but as I recall only two of them were doing anything aggressive.

One of them said 'why don't you ask next time before you take our picture.'

The other one punched my camera and grabbed the strap.

He got put into a headlock and I had to restrain myself from bringing out the power of the 'OVG'... the Optional Vertical Grip.

These guys were drunk and they didn't know how to fight.

But since there were four of them I had to take the issue seriously.

I'd lined up the guys head to take the 'OVG shot' and drop him... but I felt bad for him... I really didn't want to hurt the guy... and I knew I could easily drop him but then I'd go from 'some guy who took a picture without asking' to 'some guy who just knocked Brandon out with his Optional Vertical Grip' to his three buddies.

The smart thing to do is try not to 'escalate' the situation.

A big guy named James who's a bouncer at a bar nearby intervened really coolly and calmed everything down with minimal force.

I appreciate that James.

You're a true professional and I owe you one.

It turns out that I never even took these guy's picture.

Apparently they just decided to be assholes.

If I would have known that while the skirmish was going down I think I would have been genuinely offended by their assault and battery.

I might have been less inclined to hold back.

Both the girl in this picture and the friend who was shooting with me were pretty taken aback by the whole incident.

I feel bad for them and I would have rather they not had to see that.

I'm always amazed at how people think it's acceptable to resort to violence on the streets.

There are a lot of idiots out there and they're really lucky I'm an easygoing guy.

Brandon... you're really lucky I felt sorry for you... you could've been the latest guy sporting that 'nokiN' tattoo!

Thanks again James.

2008 Fine Work Award

Chen Chong-hong / Havana, Cuba

Winner’s Speech:

I feel so honored to take part in this grand international photography exhibition which is definitely enlightening and an inspiration on my long journey of photo creation. At the end of 2007, I went to Cuba with the seniors in the digital design field to interact. I felt so sorry for the easygoing and carefree people in this closed country so I decided to express my good wishes and cheer them up through my camera lens.

It is fortunate that I am not good at speaking, and fortunate that I am not skilled in writing, so I place my heart and soul at my camera lens to express my concerns, my love, and my emotions.

I've been tagged by both Angel-Visha and WillyCoolPics so here goes.

Apparently this should be a self-portrait but I don't do those ... but hey, at least you see my hand in this one. Anyone out there a palm reader? :P

1) I'm a Libran. Apparently we Librans are romantic, charming, easygoing, sociable, diplomatic and avoid conflict, but also indecisive, gullible, flirtatious and self-indulgent. I'm a few of the above, I'll leave it to you to guess which ones :)

2) I love computer games. I got my first PC in 1988, and since then I've been hooked on games. My favourites back then were the Sierra games, including the Police Quest series and Black Cauldron. Frogger was pretty addictive too. I am really into strategy games now (think Civilisation etc), but I don't devote as much time to them as I used to.

3) I love most kinds of music, apart from heavy metal and techno and anything that equates noise in my mind. If I like a particular song, I'll listen to it over and over again till I get sick of it. Right now I'm listening to Tracy Chapman - her songs are so meaningful.

4) My name means music. Unfortunately I'm not very musically inclined. I love listening to music but I can't really make it. I learned to play the piano as a kid but gave up after Grade 5.

5) I prefer grocery shopping to clothes/shoes shopping. I can spend a very long time in the supermarket, but have no patience when it comes to buying shoes/accessories/clothes. However, I do love browsing for unique knick-knacks and enjoy spending time in antique / 2nd hand stores.

6) My favourite colour is blue. Any shade of blue.

7) My ambition as a kid was to be a doctor. Then I did Biology and changed my mind. Dissecting insects just put me off completely.

8) I've travelled to the UK, some parts of Europe, the US, India, Vietnam, Thailand and Taiwan but there are still so many places I want to visit. Egypt and Turkey are next on my list.

9) I was born and brought up in Malaysia, but now live in Australia with my husband. Next Feb is our 5th anniversary.

10) I can't roll my tongue but I can wiggle my ears.

Phew, done! And now I'm supposed to tag more people. If you're still reading this, consider yourself tagged :)

So I know my two favourite women deserve to be photographed under better circumstances (better light) and especially with a better camera! But still, I hope this photo shows what I like about them: they're great and (most important) so fashionable! ;-)

Yesterday we had a great afternoon/evening together:

-Books and coffee at Scheltema’s,

-Bought some nice clothing together. I found (and bought) a great T-shirts with the message: “Revenge of the Nerds”,

-Dinner at Wagamama,

-Movie: Slumdog Millionaire!!!!!!!!! This is a great movie but not a soft, easygoing feelgood movie. It’s as much about child abuse, poverty, cruelty, prostitution and crime as it is about the power of friendship and love. Great pace, incredible soundtrack, a lovesong to India and Mumbai and the best closing titles I’ve seen in years. It’s definitely worth all the Oscars it has been given.

Life can be grand…

Hi Madam Jane, I am Anastacia, and currently I am here in Nairobi. I would love to be linked up with a humble, loving, and easygoing guy who wants a partner. I admire a medium or tall guy. I am a doctor by profession and also a local and international businesswoman; it’s only that I am single. I would love to get a male friend here, and Distance shouldn’t be a problem. I want someone who is ready to change and be a good partner, and I will shower him with goodies. I need a guy of age above 23.

The Scandola Nature Reserve (19.19 km²: 9.19 km² land; 10 km² marine), established in December, 1975, is located on the French island Corsica, within Corsica Regional Park. The park and reserve has been recognized by the United Nations as a Natural World Heritage Site, and was inscribed on the World Heritage List in 1983.

The Scandola Reserve is situated on the central western coast of Corsica between Punta Muchillina and Punta Nera and includes Cape Girolata and Cape Porto.

The reserve has two sectors, the Elpa Nera inlet and the peninsula of Scandola. The jagged and sheer cliffs contain many grottos and are flanked by numerous stacks and almost inaccessible islets and coves, such as Tuara. The coastline is also noted for its red cliffs, some 900 metres high, sand beaches, and headlands.

(Wikipedia)

-----

We spent a day hiking close to the Scandola nature reserve visiting isolated hamlet of Girolata that may only be reached on foot or by boat, however not with a car - it is really a tranquil, remote and easygoing place offering remarkable picturesque views during the walk.
