The Resurrection of Jesus Christ, celebrated on the Easter Vigil on Holy Saturday, marks the beginning of the Paschal Season. On this most sacred night the Church announces with great vigor that "this is the night, when Christ broke the prison-bars of death and rose victorious from the underworld."
In the Exsultet, chanted by the Deacon, the Church solemnly proclaims that the fault of Adam has now been transformed into a happy fault which has "earned so great, so glorious a Savior." The Church's faithful seal this news of great joy with a solemn amen.
At St. John Cantius, the sense of paschal joy was only increased by the presence of the catechumens and candidates who were fully received into the Catholic Church. They and all those who were received into the Church at the Easter Vigil thus received the fruits of the Redemption by receiving the Sacraments of initiation instituted by our Risen Lord.
May we renew our commitment to live the Gospel in our lives and proclaim to the world the glorious news of the Resurrection, for Christ our Passover has been sacrificed!

Easter is the pinnacle of the Church's liturgical year and is the solemnity upon which the rest of the year revolves. It was on the first Easter Sunday that the Lord's disciples discovered the empty tomb, indicating that Christ had risen from the dead.
By His Resurrection Jesus Christ triumphed over death, paid the debt that came through the sin of Adam, and thus opened the gates of Heaven to mankind. Thus, the Lord's Resurrection on Easter thus marks the turning point in salvation history.
It is for this reason that Christians have great reason to rejoice in the new life brought to us by the Risen Savior. Salvation has come at last! For this reason, the Church resumes the use of the word "alleluia" which is said with even greater frequency and fervor for the rest of the fifty days of the Easter season, also known as 'Paschaltide.'

It is an ever ancient and ever new mystery that is re-presented each year. May all discover and receive the new life to be found in the Risen Savior.

A family engaged in an Easter egg hunt behind Wade Chapel at Lake View Cemetery in Cleveland, Ohio, in the United States.
The adults had placed empty plastic colored eggs around the graves, bushes, and trees.
The plastic rabbit and other items just to the right to the woman mark the grave of Devin Ryan Stokel, an 11-year-old boy who died on February 25, 2015, from a brain tumor. His grave is not yet covered with sod, due to the wet spring Cleveland has had.

Every Easter these spicy, fruit-studded rolls crop up in various incarnations. Some say they actually have pagan roots in Spring Equinox rituals, and that the monks simply added the cross to convert people to Christians! This is my version, a fluffy and not-too sweet type with orange peel,Craisins and dark raisins, topped by an unsweetened flour-paste cross.
