The family asked me to make cupcakes for Easter lunch, so I chose to make carrot cupcakes with cream cheese frosting (I chose carrot because when you think of Easter, you think of rabbits, and rabbits eat carrots).

The Church begins the celebration of the Resurrection of the Lord with the solemn Easter Vigil, usually celebrated late at night on Holy Saturday. The Vigil consists of the Liturgy of Light, the reading of the Prophecies, the Baptismal Liturgy and the celebration of Holy Mass.
As the people gather outside of the church, a fire is lit. The celebrant then blesses the fire and lights the Paschal Candle- the symbol of Christ, the Light of the world, and inscribes upon it the actual date, saying: 'Christ, yesterday and today, the beginning and the ending. To Christ belongs all time and all the ages; to Christ belongs glory and dominion now and forever. Amen'. Then the Candle is carried into the church, filling it with light, and the people proceed inside holding tapers lit from the holy fire. Then the deacon chants the 'Exsultet'- an ancient hymn of praise honoring the marvelous happenings of the Easter Night. Seven scriptural Prophecies are then read- biblical passages which had prophecied the comming of the Lord. The Alleluia is sung for the first time since the beginning of Lent. After the Gospel and sermon, the Baptismal Liturgy begins, in which the people present in church are reminded of the time when they themselves received this holy Sacrament, and renew their baptismal promises. After the blessing of new baptismal water, Baptism is administered to the Catechumens and Candidates are received into the Church. Then follows the celebration of Holy Mass.
At St. John Cantius, this year's Easter Vigil was celebrated by the Rev. Bishop Joseph Perry. The Bishop administered the sacraments of Baptism, First Communion and Confirmation to this year's Catechumens.

Dylan and Jackson doing the usual decorating of our little tree for Easter. They really enjoy hanging the plastic eggs on the tree! I usually have to help them out a bit or else they would all be on the bottom...lol

I participated in a Licca Easter Swap and this is what I got. Thank you so much, Orangey! The left picture shows the cute bunny packaging everything came in (plus some Easter themed maze games that were included in the package). The right picture shows the handmade Licca tv Orangey made. The Resurrection of Jesus Christ, celebrated on the Easter Vigil on Holy Saturday, marks the beginning of the Paschal Season. On this most sacred night the Church announces with great vigor that "this is the night, when Christ broke the prison-bars of death and rose victorious from the underworld."
In the Exsultet, chanted by the Deacon, the Church solemnly proclaims that the fault of Adam has now been transformed into a happy fault which has "earned so great, so glorious a Savior." The Church's faithful seal this news of great joy with a solemn amen.
At St. John Cantius, the sense of paschal joy was only increased by the presence of the catechumens and candidates who were fully received into the Catholic Church. They and all those who were received into the Church at the Easter Vigil thus received the fruits of the Redemption by receiving the Sacraments of initiation instituted by our Risen Lord.
May we renew our commitment to live the Gospel in our lives and proclaim to the world the glorious news of the Resurrection, for Christ our Passover has been sacrificed!

Easter is the pinnacle of the Church's liturgical year and is the solemnity upon which the rest of the year revolves. It was on the first Easter Sunday that the Lord's disciples discovered the empty tomb, indicating that Christ had risen from the dead.
By His Resurrection Jesus Christ triumphed over death, paid the debt that came through the sin of Adam, and thus opened the gates of Heaven to mankind. Thus, the Lord's Resurrection on Easter thus marks the turning point in salvation history.
It is for this reason that Christians have great reason to rejoice in the new life brought to us by the Risen Savior. Salvation has come at last! For this reason, the Church resumes the use of the word "alleluia" which is said with even greater frequency and fervor for the rest of the fifty days of the Easter season, also known as 'Paschaltide.'
The Resurrection of Jesus Christ is no mere historical event relegated to history but a living reality which Christians experience again and again each year. It is an ever ancient and ever new mystery that is re-presented each year. May all discover and receive the new life to be found in the Risen Savior.

Once again, Grandpa's Annual Easter Egg Hunt (GAEEH?) has come and gone. That is that every year, Grandpa Rich and Grandma Janelle host an Easter egg hunt at the house. The house I grew up in. Eggs are hidden in the front and back yard, and Paige, Christian and Johnny (kids from across the street) get to go find them.
In the past, the event has gone pretty quickly, with either Paige or Johnny spotting all the eggs with relative ease. This year however, seemed to run a little longer. That may just be personal perception, but I'm calling out the old "If it was a snake, it'd have bit you" rule. The result was little Christian (the youngest) collecting a decent stash.
As Christian, Johnny, and their family departed for another event, Grandpa Rich even made a Sunday brunch.
A little later my sister, Casey, came over. Though she was dressed to kill, she was still down to earth enough to ditch the high heel shoes and join Paige and I at a local recreation center playground. Despite being on the tail end of a cold, she even got involved in a game of tag. We returned to the house after a while, and called my other sister, Christy, before Casey had to leave for another family gathering.
After wearing out Grandma Janelle by playing, a dinner of ham, asparagus and mashed potatoes was served. Once the food had settled, we called it a day and headed on home.
