The Church begins the celebration of the Resurrection of the Lord with the solemn Easter Vigil, usually celebrated late at night on Holy Saturday. The Vigil consists of the Liturgy of Light, the reading of the Prophecies, the Baptismal Liturgy and the celebration of Holy Mass.
As the people gather outside of the church, a fire is lit. The celebrant then blesses the fire and lights the Paschal Candle- the symbol of Christ, the Light of the world, and inscribes upon it the actual date, saying: 'Christ, yesterday and today, the beginning and the ending. To Christ belongs all time and all the ages; to Christ belongs glory and dominion now and forever. Amen'. Then the Candle is carried into the church, filling it with light, and the people proceed inside holding tapers lit from the holy fire. Then the deacon chants the 'Exsultet'- an ancient hymn of praise honoring the marvelous happenings of the Easter Night. Seven scriptural Prophecies are then read- biblical passages which had prophecied the comming of the Lord. The Alleluia is sung for the first time since the beginning of Lent. After the Gospel and sermon, the Baptismal Liturgy begins, in which the people present in church are reminded of the time when they themselves received this holy Sacrament, and renew their baptismal promises. After the blessing of new baptismal water, Baptism is administered to the Catechumens and Candidates are received into the Church. Then follows the celebration of Holy Mass.
At St. John Cantius, this year's Easter Vigil was celebrated by the Rev. Bishop Joseph Perry. The Bishop administered the sacraments of Baptism, First Communion and Confirmation to this year's Catechumens.

Georgetown, Guyana, Easter 2009. Kite flying at Easter is a unique Guyanese tradition. Fly a kite at any other time and you'll be thought of as rather odd. The origins of the practice are somewhat hazy but the general explanation is that the kite is symbolic of the risen Lord.

Easter eggs on sale at Australian Kmart stores in 2013. Cadbury packaged eggs and chocolates - Crunchie, Dairy Milk, Cherry Ripe, Roses. Favourites, Freddo Frog and Caramello Koala. In each case there is a smallish Easter Egg and a couple of the respective chocolates ... in an impressive looking box!
Cherry Ripe and Freddo Frog were both chocolate lines of former Melbourne-based chocolate manufacturer Macrobertson, which was taken over by Cadbury in 1967. Caramello Koala was introduced by Cadbury the previous year.
One of our neighbors got a easter chic from tractor supply, and found out this wasn't a good idea, and let it go. We gave it to one of the local farmers to raise.

On Saturday, April 3, 2021, Bishop David Walkowiak presided during Easter Vigil in the Holy Night at the Cathedral of Saint Andrew. Father René Constanza, CSP, rector of the cathedral, and Associate Pastors Father Bill Edens, CSP, and Father Michael Hennessy, CSP, concelebrated. Deacon Dennis Rybicki and Paulist Seminarian Deacon Michael Cruickshank assisted. The Vigil Mass included the Service of Light and catechumens and candidates of the parish were received into full communion with the Church.

Two young girls in their pretty Easter dresses. This field was the only one on the trails that was not fenced and had lots of bluebonnets. There was a line of cars parked on this small farm road with people wanting to take pictures in the bluebonnets. It's an annual ritual in Texas. You can see some people in the background doing the same thing. The dog was a freebie. He was a very friendly local dog who came up to anyone, including me and my grandkids, who would pet him.

Easter is almost here, and that means only one thing. Rabbits laying eggs! Strange I know. This is how I chose to brick a piece of the upcoming holiday. It is 17 inches tall and 11 1/4 inches wide. I can't wait for the LEGO bunny to hatch.

This cake is for the Easter Raffle at my son's school. I really wanted to make a standing up Easter Egg but it provided a couple of challenges.
