Easter cupcakes to take to my Mum's house today. Vanilla cupcakes, with lemond curd filling and lemon buttercream icing. Topped with a fondant chick! HAPPY EASTER.
This is a picture of the traditional Polish Easter basket, which we duly took to church today to be blessed. It basically contains a piece of food from all the Polish food groups (i.e. meat, salt, bread) (doughnuts don't fit), coloured hard-boiled eggs, the "lamb of God" (in our case a vintage one we used since I was little), and some green sprigs (not sure what they symbolise, but in they go every year). I also put in a couple of salt-dough painted shapes we made yesterday.
The idea is that all of this represents your food supply for the rest of the year, and is thus blessed.
It's about tradition rather than religion for me.
We celebrated Easter in 1973 at my parent's house in Cordell, Oklahoma.
At the time, we only had one son, Branden.
Wooden Polish Easter eggs. Paul hid them last night when he was over and I found them when I was getting ready this morning. A very fun surprise.
The Resurrection of Jesus Christ, celebrated on the Easter Vigil on Holy Saturday, marks the beginning of the Paschal Season. On this most sacred night the Church announces with great vigor that "this is the night, when Christ broke the prison-bars of death and rose victorious from the underworld."
In the Exsultet, chanted by the Deacon, the Church solemnly proclaims that the fault of Adam has now been transformed into a happy fault which has "earned so great, so glorious a Savior." The Church's faithful seal this news of great joy with a solemn amen.
At St. John Cantius, the sense of paschal joy was only increased by the presence of the catechumens and candidates who were fully received into the Catholic Church. They and all those who were received into the Church at the Easter Vigil thus received the fruits of the Redemption by receiving the Sacraments of initiation instituted by our Risen Lord.
May we renew our commitment to live the Gospel in our lives and proclaim to the world the glorious news of the Resurrection, for Christ our Passover has been sacrificed!

Paper Mache Easter egg filled with treats. Formed over a balloon with Mod Podge & newspaper. "Hinged" at one end with paper trips & propped open with a dowel rod. Design carved with a craft knife. Ribbon threaded thru slots for trim.
The Annual Easter Parade in Bangor Co Down Northern Ireland took place on Easter Monday 1st April 2013. The event this year was themed on the occasion of the town's 400th Anniversary of being granted it's Royal Charter.
Despite the continuing cold weather thousands of people lined the streets to watch the colourful and musical parade. Yet again it's well done to North Down Borough Council for their efforts to organise a fantastic family event. It even brought the sun out and the warmth ensured there were lots of smiles!

Bishop David Walkowiak celebrated Mass for the Easter Vigil in the Holy Night at the Cathedral of Saint Andrew on April 20. The Easter Vigil includes the blessing of the Easter fire, a ceremony in which the Easter candle is lit from a fire on the Piazza Secchia outside the cathedral. Parish communities throughout the diocese, including the cathedral, welcome new members of the Church during this Mass. Individuals who have completed their preparation are baptized and/or received into full communion with the Church.
