These two pieces, the Eames toilet chair and the Eames child seat, are about breaking the status surrounding high design objects. Through physically invasive alterations, these once iconic, elite, forms are liberated from their old, restrained image. The project is not a critique of the Eames, but rather a fulfillment of their original ideals.
This project was produced as part of a three day charette in the Department of Industrial Design at The University of the Arts, Philadelphia. The theme of the charette centers around Remake and DIY culture. The purpose of this charette is to explore the role designers have in respect to this emerging culture. The team members for this project are as follows: Jared Delorenzo, Tim Peet, Alexandra Temple Powell, Tom Reynolds, Alie Thomer, and Andrew McCandlish.

The Hang It All rack was designed by Eames in 1953 and is produced by Herman Miller. Charles and Ray Eames brought a sense of play to all their work, including the Hang-It-All which is a modern coat rack. The Eames Hang It All took the everyday coat rack to a new place that was inventive, eye-catching and fun. More than just a conversation piece, the Hang-It-All holds anything that slips over its colorful hooks. The solid maple balls are painted in nine bright colors. I found this chair in Waterloo Ontario and don't know much about it. It's obviously a knock-off of the Herman Miller Eames lounge chair but I don't know who made it. The only thing I've found out is that the metal base was made by a company in Waterloo. The interesting part is this company also made bases for Herman Miller.

# Charles Reutlinger [1816-1881] was the founder of one of the most prominent Parisian photographic establishments, Reutlinger Studios, which operated from 1850 to 1937. The studio became famous for its portraits of the actors, artists, musicians, composers, opera singers etc. From 1880 the studio was run by his brother Emile Reutlinger.
