Doubly ironic that Dynamo divested their Shuffleboard products to create Champion... who then bought Valley-Dynamo years on down the road.
Before you ask, that was long enough ago that barely anything Champion currently uses works on those old Dynamo tables, it'll be stuff like leg levelers - definitely not scoreboard electronics.
Sweeping shot of the Narragansett Powerplant and the old plant to the right. "The Dynamo House" which was abandoned by the electric company over 20 years ago. The building is currently undergoing rehabilitation. It sat idle for years despite plans to build the heritage harbour museum. It will be interesting to see what becomes of it as I was told it will be a hotel, condominiums and a portion will remain as the museum.

Short-lived attempt at a non-bar-box coin table. Unfortunately, few were built and only those very few parts compatible with the standard Dynamo line remain available
Decided to take apart a solar powered dynamo flashlight to see whats inside.
Basically what it has is a cheap electric motor (connected to the battery along with some diodes, then a few gears which allow the hand crank to turn the motor and thus generate power.
The solar panel is soldered onto the same traces as the battery and has no diodes
The LED's are not regulated so the brightness will drop along with the voltage (which seems to top out at around 3.5V. There is also no charging circuit so it may be possible to overcharge the battery.
The solar panel does charge the battery but after using the hand crank to bring the battery to 3.4V, aiming a bright lamp at the solar panel yielded no additional voltage even after an hour. (bit it was able to charge the battery enough to give some light after running it down (so it seems that the solar panel no matter what, is not able to fully charge the battery (it would probably need a DC to DC boost module in order to charge the battery fully).
Overall the flashlight is of a decent brightness and can run for around 15-20 minutes before needing a recharge using the hand crank. (Or if you want, you can run it non stop at a low brightness level if you have a bright light source aimed at the solar panel (perfect for if you like using a flashlight in direct sunlight :) )

Soda Stereo – Dynamo
La teoría física define a un dínamo como una máquina destinada a la transformación de energía mecánica en eléctrica, produciendo corriente continua mediante el fenómeno de la inducción electromagnética producida por un imán o un electroimán fijo sobre una bobina rotatoria. Para comprender su funcionamiento, el dinamo puede ser visto como el inverso de un motor. Los motores producen movimiento a través de la electricidad; los dinamos producen electricidad por medio del movimiento.
Y la música necesariamente es movimiento. Ni siquiera el 4.33 de John Cage puede dejar de serlo. De ese modo un disco como este, bien estaba induciendo a América Latina a entender o tal vez dilucidar sonoridades en las que Soda Stereo como banda estaba inmerso. Corría el año 1991, año en el cual la golosina sonora mundial se conocía como sonido “alternativo” o “shoegazer”. De aquel momento, bandas como Lush, Ride, My Bloody Valentine, Swervedriver, Catherine Wheel, Pale Saints y otras infestaban su obra con sonidos de efectos y reverberaciones, delays, o modernas formas de entender los sueños, las alucinaciones y los tormentos unidos a melodías eléctricas. Un verdadero dinamo que se generaba con las doce canciones y los casi sesenta minutos de bella creación sónica.
Alberti, Bosio y Cerati supieron hacerse un lugar en esta movida, cuando todavía sus ecos permitían tenerlos vigentes. Dynamo fue un disco íntimo, que no se adelantó en su momento frente a las obras de las bandas mencionadas, pero se comió vivo al continente. No existía referencia cercana en ese sonido. Porque las bandas del continente jugaban a ser las mestizas con ese tema de los 500 años del encuentro de dos mundos, entonces querían emular a la Mano Negra o pensar en ser los nuevos Fabulosos Cadillacs. Aquí se jugaba a ser del mundo, sin que existiera alguna remota idea de que algo llamado Internet iba a llegar.
La reclusión creativa se vio reflejada en la caracterización de los temas, con particularidades como la amorosa apertura de Secuencia Inicial, la premonición de Toma la ruta (mensaje directo de no dejarse vencer), la tormentosa calma de En Remolinos, la fulgarante Primavera 0, el mutante Camaleón (jugar a ser un son andino con groove), la envolvente Luna Roja (que brinda una sospechosa tranquilidad), la pasividad de Sweet Sahumerio, la paranoica y directa Ameba (referencia a la vida personal y social de la banda, como objeto de amor y odio de los medios), la espiritual e íntima Nuestra Fe (lo más cercano además a un sonido de Creation Records en aquellos días), la apabullante Claroscuro (retrato de un amor urbano), la delicada Fue (algo como un sudor de cansancio y olvido sonoro) y la destellante Texturas.
Dynamo significó un momento creativo sin par, para una banda que además tenía ya conflictos entre sus integrantes, pero que creativamente hablando mostró un alto pico. Y claro, complementos y ayudas creativas por cortesía de Tweety González, Daniel Melero, Flavio Etcheto y otros personajes.

In the late 1980s and early 1990s, Dynamo took a stab at a bill acceptor pool table but the tech wasn't quite there yet. While parts common with Dynamo coin tables remain available, all parts related to the electronics or bill accepter were long since discontinued.
This brochure has no date, no e-mail address, and no mention of Valley, so we figure it's the oldest we've got for the Dynamo Coin foosball line. Likely early 1990s.
Dynamo Coin Foosball parts are no longer available. First question asked is always "Can you use Tornado parts?" No. When this table was designed, Dynamo was a separate company from Tornado and made no provisions for using parts compatible with a competitor's product.
This handout of a Dynamo Bumper Pool table even came as a surprise to us here. Even longtime Dynamo employees didn't recall it.

La bataille de Dunkerque, appelée Opération Dynamo s'est déroulée en mai 1940. C'est depuis ses plages rendues célèbres par le film Weekend à Zuydcoote que les Anglais mis en déroute par l'armée allemande a ré-embarqué pour l'Angleterre. Cette photo est prise à l'entrée du musée dédié à cette bataille.
