The Dunwich Dynamo is a turn-up-and-go challenging free-entry overnight 120 mile bicycle ride on-tarmac from London Fields in Hackney to the lonely Suffolk beach at Dunwich. It’s not a race. It’s unsupported. There’s no van following. It’s a long way.

Where the Power Comes From
This is part of the drive system for the generator. A pulley would bolt over this wheel and a belt could provide power from a hydroelectric turbine or internal combustion engine, but I'm almost positive Boston Edison used steam engines in Station #1.

Welcome to Dynamo Pond, home to the first hydroelectric power plant in the Eastern Sierra, which supplied power for the mining camp at Bodie, now California's most famous ghost town. Built in 1892, it was the first test of the theory that electricity could be transmitted over a distance – until then power was always generated on-site. The hydroelectric power was successfully carried across wires for 13 miles to Bodie proving the theory. They installed the power lines in a straight line, as at the time it was feared the electricity would not be able to turn corners!

Greater Manchester Police and partner agencies have taken part in a planned warrant across two properties in Bury and Oldham as part of Operation Dynamo.
As well as a range of GMP officers, there were also partnership agencies in attendance including, the stolen vehicle unit, the Environment Agency and Trading Standards.
Various vehicle parts were seized, together with £2,000 in cash and a further two suspected stolen vehicles were found at a second address.

Distance dynamo to the rim, when dynamo is folded-off: 3mm

Here it is working - generates about a volt of electricity with a decent amount of current. Now to up this to 5 volts and add in a way to store the charge :)

Montagen von Dynamos und anderen Anbauteilen am Rahmen, immer nur VOR Rahmenteilen wie Gabelrohren oder Sitzstreben (in Fahrtrichtung gesehen), NIE auf der in Fahrtrichtung hinten liegenden Seite, denn dadurch wird grundsätzlich verhindert, dass sich Anbauteile zwischen Rahmen und Laufrad verkeilen können, falls sich mal eine Halteschraube lockern sollte.

Un trop longue inactivité gêne l’amorçage de cette dynamo qui a donc du mal à alimenter correctement l’ampoule.
The 1953 Rudge Sports, 85% (or so) complete:
-Replaced front wheel with another Sturmey-Archer steel rim 650A (26" x 1 3/8"), originally from my Raleigh Wayfarer
-Replaced broken spoke on rear wheel, trued it (to some extent)
-Kenda gumwall tires/tubes that I found at the Citybikes free pile
-Removed fenders (horrors!)
-Replaced Italian drop bars with used North Road bars (inverted!)
-Replaced original stem with another Raleigh stem
-Pedals came off my Raleigh since I have MKS Lambda pedals on there now
-Brown Brooks B17 Narrow saddle and Minnehaha saddle bag (had in my stockpile)
-Union bottle dynamo/halogen headlamp combo (stockpile)
-Crane Brass bell (stockpile)
-VO bottle cage handlebar bracket with bottle cage
-Lots of tweaking, cleaning, oiling, scraping, and polishing. (Oiling a steel frame does wonders for its look, and aluminum foil and lemon juice does a good job of getting rid of surface rust!)
As I said, it's about 85% done. I don't know if the stem and handlebar positioning is right yet, so right now the Black OURY grips (yeeps!) will do. The Planet Bike blinky is there as a standlight when the generator isn't running, though I don't know if I'll keep it. When it's "dialed in", I'll be taping the bars. I also got a longer seatpost. And just picked up a new chain, brake pads, and cables/housing. We'll be attacking that soon!
But right now, she is rideable, and I rode about 10 miles on her. And it was fun all the way!
