Needed something bright and cheery today, as it is snowing. What a difference a day makes - yesterday, as seen in the image posted above, was blue skied and sunny. Photographed in the ENMAX Conservatory at the Calgary Zoo on 26 April 2010.

Toppings clockwise from 1 o'clock: cream cheese, barbeque sauce, peanut butter, Vegemite, sundried tomato pesto, mint sauce, lemon curd, redcurrant jelly - and kiwifruit in the centre as the coup de gras...

Okay - my extended family in New Zealand are (like certain of my immediate family back in Britain) big fans of Terry Pratchett's Discworld books. One legendary invention therein is the dwarfs' notoriously inedible Dwarf Bread, inadvertently recreated and christened by my second cousin Amy's chef boyfriend Paul. I first tried ameliorating a slice with honey, then as there was a lot of this dense, hard savoury loaf to go round I decided to experiment with a whole gamut of semi-appropriate toppings to see which went the best and worst with the stuff - and ate them all consecutively, marking them as I went! I knew about it afterwards, I'll say... For the record, I believe the pesto won and the peanut butter came last!

Hubble has captured the festive bundle of lights known as UGC 8091. UGC 8091, also known as GR 8, lies around seven million light-years from Earth in the constellation Virgo. It is a dwarf irregular galaxy: a comparatively small, low-mass galaxy without a distinct or uniform shape.

The blossoming patches of red represent light emitted by excited hydrogen molecules in hot, energetic stars that have formed in recent starbursts. The other glittering lights on show are a mix of older stars.

The Vienna Zoo at Schönbrunn is the oldest existing zoo in the world and was voted Europe's best zoo in 2009. Each year more than two million visitors come to see the panda baby, newborn elephants and many other rare animals.

Today the Zoo at Schönbrunn is considered one of the best and most modern zoos in the world. The animal compounds have a particularly generous and natural design. More than 500 animal species - from Siberian tigers and hippos to one-horned rhinoceroses - live here.

The rains we had last week have finally brought my Dwarf Pomegranate Tree back to life, when I walked outside the other day it was so nice to see the whole tree bursting forward with all these beautiful bright red flowers.

Picea abies 'Suncrest No. 2' (Suncrest Gardens, PA 1990s) 2019 photo - Common Name: Dwarf Norway Spruce, Size at 10 years: 2x2ft., Silve blue needles, USDA Hardiness Zone 4, In Garden Bed HR-P for 22.8 YEARS (HLG). Planted in 1997.

ACS: Picea abies 'Suncrest' is a deservedly popular dwarf selection of Norway spruce that is quite dense and globose when young, later becoming slightly pyramidal with age. Older plants resemble the Hershey's Kiss candy. Branching is close and uniform and the needles are brilliantly silver-blue in color. 'Suncrest' is one of the bluest-known dwarf Norway spruces.

After 10 years of growth, a mature specimen will measure 20 inches (50 cm) tall and a bit narrower, an annual growth rate of 1.5 - 2 inches (3 - 5 cm).

This cultivar originated as a witch's broom found on a typical green Norway spruce by Gregg Gulden at Suncrest Gardens, Mt. Holly, Pennsylvania, USA and introduced to the nursery trade in the late 1990s . 'Suncrest No. 2' is considered synonymous and is likely a provisional name.

The Common Dwarf Mongoose (Helogale parvula), sometimes just called the Dwarf Mongoose, is a small African carnivore belonging to the mongoose family (Herpestidae).

The Common Dwarf Mongoose is a typical mongoose: it has a large pointed head, small ears, a long tail, short limbs, and long claws. The species can be distinguished from other mongooses by its size. It is much smaller than most other species (18 to 28 cm, 210 to 350 grams); in fact, it is Africa's smallest Carnivore. The soft fur is very variable in color, ranging from yellowish red to very dark brown

The Common Dwarf Mongoose is primarily found in dry grassland, open forests, and bush land, up to 2,000 meters in altitude. It is especially common in areas with many termite mounds, their favorite sleeping place. The species avoids dense forests and deserts. The Common Dwarf Mongoose can also be found in the surroundings of settlements, and can become quite tame.

The species ranges from East to southern Central Africa, from Eritrea and Ethiopia to Transvaal and South Africa.

The Common Dwarf Mongoose is a diurnal animal. It is a social species that lives in family groups of two to thirty animals. There is a strict hierarchy within a group, headed by a dominant pair. The dominant female is usually the leader of the group. All group members cooperate in helping to rear the pups and guarding the group from predators.

Dwarf mongooses are territorial, and each group uses an area of approximately 30-60 hectares (depending on the type of habitat). They sleep at night in disused termite mounds, although they occasionally use piles of stones, hollow trees, etc. Territories often overlap slightly, which can lead to confrontations between different groups.

Generally, only the group's dominant female becomes pregnant and she is responsible for 80% of the pups reared by the group. If conditions are good, subordinate females may also become pregnant but their pups rarely survive. After the gestation period of 53 days, 4-6 young mongooses are born. They remain below ground (within a termite mound) for the first 2-3 weeks. Normally one or more members of the group stay behind to babysit while the group goes foraging. At 4 weeks of age the pups begin accompanying the group.

A mutualistic relationship has evolved between Dwarf Mongooses and hornbills, in which hornbills seek out mongooses in order to forage together and warn each other of nearby birds of prey and other predators.

""They appeared on the streets of the city in August 2005. Their history is connected with the Orange Alternative movement and the year 1982. It is then that some dwarfs with funny hats and smiling faces were painted as a graffiti covering anti-Communist slogans. The present day dwarfs are statues sculpted by Tomasz Moczek, graduate of the local Fine Arts Academy. There are as many as five dwarfs in the city. Each of the dwarfs has a name, e.g. Dwarf the Sleepyhead in sw. Mikolaja Street or Dwarf the Butcher in Jatki Street. There is also a museum dedicated to the dwarfs in one of the ''Hansel and Gretzel'' houses near the St. Elizabeth's Church in the town centre. Be watchful not to miss its door as it is halfway up your knee."

My goal of designing a perfect LEGO dwarf spider droid is complete (With a few exceptions)

First of all the 4x4 hemisphere would be the perfect element if only there was a stud on the very top for connecting a little would be antenna. (Major oversight by the designer of that part)

Since other part configurations simply does not look as correct, the most elegant solution is to drill a small hole directly in the center of part 86500 (Purists look away) this will allow a foil/épée sword to stick through the shell and complete the look.

Now for the two large optical sensors sitting directly on the spherical chassis, this was the hardest part to incorporate over to a LEGO frame. Again because I'm going for maximum movie accurracy THE best part to use is without a doubt 3614b.

Because its compatible with balljoints the eyes can sit flush to the head at a slight angle (Exactly what we want)

Unfortunately it's an old part not produced since 2003, but the part should be available albeit slighly expensive at least only two is needed to complete the model.
