In preparation for a field trip to DuPont State Forest (Transylvania County, North Carolina) later in the week with some out-of-state friends, I decided to go up there to scout out the area, a bit. I ended up finding a good variety of wildflowers to photograph -- some of which had already finished blooming in South Carolina.

The bald top of Cedar Rock Mountain means that a lot of the trail markers are cairns. This is a great hike that is only about 2.5 miles and provides good views of the surrounding mountains. For a video guide of this hike, please visit: www.hdcarolina.com/episode/cedar-rock-mountain
Calling this body of water a "lake" is a bit of a stretch; it's actually a very small pond. Very pretty pond, but definitely a pond!
