This represents the culmination of a day trip that my partner, Walter Ezell and I took to DuPont State Forest near Cedar Mountain, Transylvania County, North Carolina.

I had been to this area ten days prior, and had seen the orchids in tight bud. I figured that they would be in pretty good shape on this day.

We had heard about this location from my flickr buddy, Kelvin Taylor and his cousin Cathy Howell. But on that trip last year, the orchids had already finished blooming. As you can see, they were in perfect bloom on this trip.

In preparation for a field trip to DuPont State Forest (Transylvania County, North Carolina) later in the week with some out-of-state friends, I decided to go up there to scout out the area, a bit. I ended up finding a good variety of wildflowers to photograph -- some of which had already finished blooming in South Carolina.

This is the upper section of Triple Falls in Dupont State Forest. This was such a cool series of falls to explore, I only wish I had arrived sooner in the morning before the light became harsh. I wanted to really capture the flow of the water after the falls themselves so I chose a low pov.

DuPont State Recreational Forest is a 10,000 acre (40 km²) tract, located in Henderson and Transylvania counties of North Carolina. The name originates from the fact that the DuPont company arranged the sale of the original tract to the state. Adjacent tracts have since been purchased and added to the state forest.

Quick day trip to the DuPont State Forest, Transylvania County, near Cedar Mountain, North Carolina. We went with the expectation of seeing Cypripedium parviflorum var. pubescens or Large Yellow Lady's-slipper orchid, but we saw much more...

First time I've managed to capture this iconic waterfall with snow on the ground. Accessible from above or below via the waterfalls trail, this is probably the most popular spot in DuPont State Forest. Enjoy more at Internet Brothers Hiking Logs and Gallery.

She was sunbathing across the Corn Meal Shoals Trail (#19). I spooked her away or one of the many mountain bikers would run her over.

As I was walking around on top of Stone Mountain in DuPont State Forest, I came upon this collection of stuff and found it intriguing. Just some moss, an acorn and cap, some pine needles, and part of a branch. Enjoy more at Internet Brothers Hiking Logs and Gallery.
