Triple Falls in North Carolina. This is in the Dupont State Forest just upstream from Hooker Falls. These falls are a little more interesting but a little more remote. There was no way to get to where the people in the photo were without going swimming.

Dupont State Forest

near Brevard, NC

Ben Pierce, the famous Flickr waterfall photographer, and his faithful companion Lulu pose in front of High Falls in western North Carolina.

This represents the culmination of a day trip that my partner, Walter Ezell and I took to DuPont State Forest near Cedar Mountain, Transylvania County, North Carolina.

 

I had been to this area ten days prior, and had seen the orchids in tight bud. I figured that they would be in pretty good shape on this day.

 

We had heard about this location from my flickr buddy, Kelvin Taylor and his cousin Cathy Howell. But on that trip last year, the orchids had already finished blooming. As you can see, they were in perfect bloom on this trip.

The Hooker, Triple and High falls are all within close proximity so that it is easy to walk from one to the other during a single visit.
