As you can see, they ended up a tad under-filled. I'll figure it out next time. Also, yes, that is store-bought char siu pork used as part of the filling.

 

I have a recipe for homemade char siu, which I should be using next time, but this was all about getting my first steamed bread right.

This is the first time I made dumplings from scratch. Behind the picture was a huge mess in the kitchen. This is when I realised how cooking is a perfect manifestation of the art of scheduling: it comes down to making a realistic plan and executing it appropriately. It is crucial to know not only the ingredients and the facilities but also your ability.

Another lesson is to always appreciate what other people have to offer, because most of the time we do not and will not see the amount of work and time people have invested behind the scenes.

A new restaurant has just opened few days ago right across my grandma's house so today hubby and I decided to give it a try and we must say it was very good (and cheap!).

Vegan kimchi dumplings. They have a bit of a strong flavor, and are ok on their own, but would be great with the right dip/sauce.
