I was taught that U shaped canyons indicate glacial activity in the distant past. I don’t know for sure, but I’m guessing there were a lot of glaciers flowing down the canyons of the Uintas.

Found a new sunset spot near Snow Canyon where the light hits the cliffs so beautifully at the end of the day.
Our perspective not only determines what we see but how we feel. Elevating our perspective can also elevate our feelings.
When the weather is too stormy to get out, I really enjoy going through the archives and creating new edits of shots from previous years. I enjoy bringing out different details in shots I’d almost forgotten about.

Sunrise Peak, Gifford Pinchot National Forest, Washington, USA. There was once a fire lookout here, constructed in the 1930s and destroyed in the 1960s. All that remains is a guard rail and some rebar. Very beautiful here, I didn't want to leave.

It's Sunrise and the first rays of the Sun appear above the Fog. I am alone above everything and see into the distance.
For that moment it feels like my own Heaven, free from everything. Is it real or just a beautiful Dream ? I wish this feeling never ends.

High Rock fire lookout, Gifford Pinchot National Forest, Washington USA. What a job it must have been, watching for forest fires all summer with a view like that.
The creeks and trees have all gone to bed for the winter nestled under a blanket of snow. They’ll wait patiently for the warm light of spring to reach them once again.
Fond memories of this trip. High winds smashed our tents flat, breaking a bunch of poles. But after the storms moved off, the light was so beautiful.
This wasn't even planned. I took the back way home from my dad's house, managed to get up out of the fog, and the shot presented itself.
One of my favorite scenes to photograph is the cliffs along the Colorado River just west of Moab, Utah. When the light is right on the red rock and the river is calm enough for reflections, it’s such a great little spot.

The workweek is almost in the rear view. I hope you’re on the road headed to a beautiful weekend! Have a great one!
It’s been a while but I stand by my statement that the Great Salt Lake is the world’s biggest reflecting pond. A still evening out there provides phenomenal views.
In 1877, my ancestor, Jens Hansen, was asked by local leaders to use his oxen to break the ground beginning construction on the Manti Temple in Sanpete County, Utah. This temple has always had a special place in my family’s history. In fact, my parents were married there 48 years ago today.
Orford Castle aerial view - Suffolk
Built by Henry II between 1165–1173, Orford Castle was designed to assert royal power in East Anglia, countering the influence of the Bigod family. Its distinctive polygonal keep, with three clasping towers, remains one of the most complete and unusual keeps in England. Once a royal stronghold, it later passed to the Uffords and other noble families, and by the 16th century much of the outer bailey had been dismantled.
The keep was preserved as a landmark for shipping, restored in the 19th century, and gifted to the Orford Town Trust in 1928. It came under state care in 1962 and is now managed by English Heritage.
Between 2022 and 2023 a £1 million conservation project was carried out after more than a decade of research. The castle’s walls, built largely from fragile local mudstone (septaria), had been eroding badly. To halt further decay, specialists applied a protective lime render across more than 400 m² of wall surface, using some 24 tonnes of material. Additional repairs included work to the roof, drainage, stone dressings and timber windows.
The project, completed in late 2022, has stabilised the structure and given the castle renewed protection against the coastal climate
Visitors can explore from basement to roof, with displays from the Orford Museum Trust inside. Famous locally is the legend of the “Wild Man of Orford,” a mysterious hairy figure said to have been captured here in the 12th century.
