October 25, 2017--Staten Island--Governor Andrew M. Cuomo today announced a new data-driven, statewide initiative to examine cancer patterns and the potential causes of cancer in four regions across the state that have a higher incidence of certain cancers. Governor Cuomo traveled to Warren County and to Northwell Health Staten Island University Hospital to announce that the Department of Health will be reviewing cancer data, potential demographic and occupational factors, and will consult with the Department of Environmental Conservation on environmental factors contributing to these clusters of cancer incidences. The regional studies will focus on the eastern part of the state surrounding Warren County, western part of the state surrounding Erie Country, and in two regions downstate, including Staten Island and Long Island. Warren County has the highest rate of cancer in the state, while Staten Island's rate is an anomaly compared to the rest of the boroughs in New York City. (Kevin P. Coughlin/State of New York)

I've driven past this cool Katipunan (KKK) themed street art on a side street of Ramon Magsaysay Boulevard in Manila for years, but I only had time to actually stop and photograph it the other day, September 15, 2022.

I thought to shoot a small behind the scenes vlog also since people often ask me where I find these neat spots in the city to photograph.

Also on that same street is a Street Side Grotto, which was very fortuitous for me, since I've been photographing these little vernacular street altars for over a decade now, and I often driven past one but was unprepared to photograph. Luckily that day I had my stuff with me and had the extra time to do so.

Wind driven rain and sea. I just love a bit of a gale. I tried down the pier a bit but it was SO wet! Makes for dire photography but just had to do something.

El Toro Loco Truck driven by Chris Baker

Oh what a blast this was! If you were one of the lucky ones that made it out to Monster Jam at the Rogers Centre on Jan 22nd and 23rd, you know what an awesome display of Monster Truck action there was.

Yes....there was lots of dust, fumes and noise, but it was such a great feeling of excitement during the entire event. My daughter thought it was the coolest thing ever!

Most of the fan favorites were there...Grave Digger, Grave Digger Legend, El Toro Loco and Excaliber. Maximum Destruction also rolled into town for their first visit to Toronto. The audience welcomed him loudly during his freestyle and race.

Robosauraus .....meh.....a little dull and boring, but the kids loved him. What child doesn`t enjoy a giant fire breathing robot that eats cars? I know mine sure did.

Grave Digger Legend also put on an amazing show, the truck reached heights above and beyond what I ever thought was possible. For a moment I thought the truck had sprouted wings . I thought it was a terrific show, and I can`t wait for next year when they

return again.

February 16th, 2015 - Bottlenose Capture and Slaughter — at Taiji Japan

Disturbing and sinister scenes this morning saw another swift drive end in the live capture of 5 adult Bottlenose Dolphins, plus the butchering of another 2 adults and 1 defenceless baby.

As this once completely free pod was driven in towards the Taiji Cove, the future of this small close-knit family remained uncertain. Relentless harassment from the circling skiffs and drive boats instilled fear and panic among the adults, as they searched for an escape route to freedom both for themselves, and the helpless baby dolphin clinging to their side. But their tireless efforts to escape were to prove completely futile.

In a truly disgusting display of power and gluttony, dozens of Taiji killers and dolphin trainers laughed and joked with excitement as some herded the pod towards their final taste of freedom, and others tossing used cigarette butts into the water as they waited. They were unable to contain their greedy and excitable expressions as their collective vision of hauling in the next "Cash-Cow Catch" was becoming reality. Five adults Bottlenose were hand picked by the local 'Taiji Whale Museum" trainers, harnessed into slings, then transferred to floating pens within the Taiji Harbour, where they now begin their epic journey of torturous starvation, medicated feeding and belittling hand signals from their new task masters and rulers. For the remaining two adults and the one defenceless juvenile, no time was wasted as they were subjected to the same pain and suffering as the thousands of small cetaceans slain in these waters before them. A Pair of Magnificent Solid Silver Candle-Holders

Lot 28 of the Leon Gallery auction in February 2020. For more information, please see leon-gallery.com

This pair of silver candle holders usually came in sets of six and were used to flank the crucifix at the altar during holy masses (Pre-Vatican II). These candle holders were decorated in the “ysot” manner in which a sharp instrument called a “tiburin” was driven into the silver sheet quickly and repeatedly with a deft silversmith’s hand. The process was very difficult because a single mistake necessitated the repetition of the entire process. In fact, a mistake simply was not acceptable. The “ysot” process of silver decoration is the oldest of silver embellishment techniques in the islands.

These ecclesiastical items are great rarities because silver is prone to being melted down during difficult and troubled times. The survival of antique Filipino ecclesiastical silver pieces is worthy of recognition and celebration.

Got to work with the Media Group for the Driven show in Winnipeg yesterday. As you can see, I was very lucky and got to work with a host of talented young models.

I also got a chance to test out my new portable hot shoe soft boxes, which I must admit work very, very well for a couple 50 dollar ebay items.

A 76-year-old woman is in critical condition after a crash involving a midsize SUV and a garbage truck in unincorporated Marengo Wednesday afternoon, police said.

The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office, Union Fire and Rescue, McHenry County Conservation Police Department and Marengo Fire and Rescue responded to Route 176 and Dunham Road in unincorporated Seneca Township around 3:44 p.m. Wednesday.

The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office said that a 2018 Subaru Crosstrek, driven by a 76-year-old Naperville woman, was traveling northbound on Dunham Road approaching the stop sign at Route 176.

A 2017 Autocar garbage truck, driven by a 45-year-old Union man, was traveling westbound on Route 176 and did not have a stop sign. The Subaru failed to yield at the intersection and drove in front of the garbage truck, sheriff’s officials said.

The garbage truck struck the Subaru and both vehicles drove off the roadway where they struck the guardrail and two trees.

The driver and sole occupant of the Subaru was extricated by firefighters and flown by helicopter to Javon Bea Hospital in Rockford where she remains in critical condition, police said.

The driver and sole occupant of the garbage truck was transported by ambulance to Northwestern Medicine Huntley Hospital with minor injuries.

Airbags deployed in the Subaru and both drivers were wearing seatbelts. The roads around the crash were closed for around five hours while the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office Major Crash Investigation Unit conducted their investigation.
