In a Dassanech village in the Omo Valley, in the south of Ethiopia.
The Dassanech live around the Omo delta on the northern side of Lake Turkana. They practice flood retreat cultivation, pastoralism and fishing. The Dassanech are the most southerly tribe living in Ethiopia’s Omo valley. The lands of the Dassanech are semi-arid and they live where the Omo delta enters Lake Turkana. Their name means People of the Delta. Despite the lake and delta, this is an incredibly dry region; there is nothing but desert to the west and southwest. Cattle are central to the lives of the Dassanech, just as they are for the other tribes of the Omo valley. As well as meat, milk, leather for clothing, houses and mattresses, they provide status in the tribe, and the bride-wealth that allows a man to marry. The Dassanech tribe is not strictly defined by ethnicity. Over time the tribe has absorbed a wide range of different peoples and it’s now divided in to eight main clans. Each clan has its own identity and customs, its own responsibilities towards the rest of the tribe and is linked to a particular territory.

Although Dugarel's has always been active in supporting the community with donations, fundraising events, and charitable gambling programs, we've decided to step it up a bit! A new non-profit foundation has been established in honor of Jessie's daughters, Maddy & Grace! Dugarel's iM&Gine Foundation!
This non-profit will be funded by our anniversary celebration fun and games, ongoing special menu items, and other various FUNdraisers throughout the year! (Emphasis on fun!)
Money raised by the foundation will be used to fill funding gaps throughout the community, especially in the Hastings Schools. Field trips, teacher supplies, special programs and more!
The fundraising for the foundation will not infringe on our other established programs, like the weekly meat raffles and pull tabs. Those things will still happen as is, with outside non-profits as the recipients. We've just found that we have the capacity for more, and we're going to go for it!
Imagine what we can do.... together!

The pack of dogs that had been moving along the road broke off and led us to a water hole. They stopped for a brief drink before they sped off again.

This little guy got photographed like crazy, here my shoot at it :) Great place to share a beer with a toy tiger.
They kept the beers on the intake below the cover.
