The staging of the Goroka Show started back in 1957 at the Independence Park opposite the Goroka Main Market. It was first introduced and organized by Australian Kiaps. Kiaps from each district built round houses typical of thier districts. It is they proudly displayed cultures of their districts. The kiaps brought in singsing groups from their area and as we have some twenty nine languages and societies it was reflected in their culture.
These days the Goroka show is partly a tourist event, but it's a rare opportunity for travellers to experience the customs of over a hundred tribes that populate the Papua New Guinea highlands. During the course of the weekend the tribes gather for music, dancing, showing-off and extraordinary displays of tribal rituals.
The Goroka Show was held on 17th, 18th and 19th September 2010.
My personal fave of an event shoot here in Georgia where I was the photographer. A bit different from my nature photos.
Ortel Zomercarnaval (Summer Carnival), Netherlands, Rotterdam, 2008.
This photo is part of a big set of this day.
Some of my best shots of this event will be posted in JeromesPOV
Just an adorable picture of my niece Dakota. She normally doesn't like to even wear clothes, so to get her dressed up to take a picture was a real treat. I went back to some of my old editing techiniques with this one, using many sets of overlapping layers and softening the background of the photo several times to get an oil painting type of feel. The only thing I wish I could change is maybe erasing the tree layer above her eyes, but I still don't know how to do that on Picnik.

you got all dressed up for a photo shoot. My grandfather is the one standing. He had two brothers and six sisters. Imagine what it took to get everyone together and posing at once in their Sunday best.
ODC: Dress It Up
I wouldn't go so far to say that Bailey likes to dress up, but he definitely likes the attention that comes with it ;)).
I let my boyfriend have my camera during homecoming, this is what I returned to see. Crazy mother fuckerrrr, batmanning in the school bathroom!
The bows already made me laugh... But now that I know they also have bindis... I can hardly keep my serious.
I promised him, but that was the first shot, where his eyes were closed. Not this one. May someone smile for you this weekend. B
I know it's supposed to be FDF but this is all you're getting, I'm too tired!
I spent this morning looking around the area close to the uni to see what the houses were like. The kind of place I can afford is in what can only be described as hell.
I got to the uni at 1.30, there was a tour and a talk and then I had to wait until 5.15 for my interview. It lasted ten minutes and they asked three questions. I think I did okish. I stumbled over my words a few times and said um a little too much but I am sure they expect people to be nervous.
Now I'm home, and so tired. I have chocolate cake and tea to make me feel better!
Thank you everyone for your lovely messages today!
I should find out in a couple of weeks
Another last for us. After 8 years between two children in jazz band, Ian is finishing his last jazz competition at Hoover Jazz Fest. Sadness aside, do you know how hard it is to get a shot of someone when there is little to know light and everybody is wearing black, not to mention the backdrop is black and the music stands are black. Plus, let's add in the fact that the trombone is always covering up his face. grrr. Okay, done for now, and yes, he did get a haircut. Have a great week. B
I was the last one in my office to have their picture taken. Made sure the person before me was about my height so I would not have to mess with the tripod. I focused then got in front of the camera and hit the shutter. Close enough.
It is amazing how the citizens of India love to dress up their everyday work vehicles. This is one of many fancily dressed up farm
tractors we passed on the road to Jaipur.
...after all these years, still crazy.
My Paul, yesterday surprised me with a new camera, the fabulous Nikon D7200.
Always a great moment in the life of a photographer! I am over the moon, it performs beautifully.
This IS how it came out. Tradition here, the first photo I take with a new machine is a portrait of my love.
I only downsized it, NOTHING else, fantastic.
So, my friends... from now on, you can expect even better images??? LOLOLOL
Thank you, M, (*_*)

He is Risen INDEED!!!
Jaylie was quite amazed that Grammy and Papa responded "He is Risen Indeed" to her call of "He is Risen" She didn't have Sunday School today, only the littlest ones did, so she learned the Easter call and response! So cute!
Happy Easter to you all!
Oriental people especially adore Brugge and often visit.
You hear languages from all over the world, it is fun to guess where they are from.
This lady on the Burg square in the centre of this beautiful historic city, where I was born.
I wish you a day full of beauty and thank you for your visit, Magda, (*_*)

I'll Be There For You
Bon Jovi
I guess this time you're really leaving
I heard your suitcase say 'goodbye'
Well, as my broken heart lies bleeding
You say true love, it's suicide
You say you've cried a thousand rivers
And now you're swimming for the shore
You left me drowning in my tears
And you won't save me anymore
I pray to God you'll give me one more chance, girl
I'll be there for you
These five words, I swear to you
When you breathe, I want to be
The air for you
I'll be there for you
I'd live and I'd die for you
I'd steal the sun from the sky for you
Words can't say what love can do
I'll be there for you
I know you know we've had some good times
Now they have their own hiding place
Well, I can promise you tomorrow
But I can't buy back yesterday
And baby you know my hands are dirty
But I wanted to be your valentine
I'll be the water
When you get thirsty, baby
When you get drunk I'll be the wine, oh!
I'll be there for you
These five words I swear to you
When you breathe
I want to be the air for you
I'll be there for you
I'd live and I'd die for you
I'd steal the sun from the sky for you
Words can't say what love can do
I'll be there for you
I wasn't there when you were happy
And I wasn't there when you were down
Didn't mean to miss your birthday, baby
I wish I'd seen you blow those candles out
I'll be there for you
These five words I swear to you
When you breathe
I want to be the air for you
I'll be there for you
I'd live and I'd die for you
I'd steal the sun from the sky for you
Words can't say what love can do
I'll be there for
I'll be there for you
These five words I swear to you
When you breathe
I want to be the air for you
I'll be there for you
I'd live and I'd die for you
Steal the sun from the sky for you
Words can't say what love can do
I'll be there for you

This was June 2nd, 1953, Coronation Day in the UK. I was 6 and dressed as a souvenir seller and my little sister, 3, was Little Red Riding Hood.
Our mother had made our costumes: part sewn; part crafted from crepe paper, like my sister Wendy's red cape.
She looks pleased with her bunch of flowers!
I note the toes of her shoes have been cut away to make them last a little longer. Money was scarce in those days in ordinary families like ours.
We also had a street party to celebrate. The ingenuity of the mothers must have provided the food: many items were still rationed, sugar being de-rationed in September that year. My father, home from years spent as a PoW, was not in the best of health. Despite these constraints, I do not remember ever going hungry as a child.
Wendy, sadly, died in 1996 aged 46 from breast cancer, hence my Admin here on Flickr of Octubre rosa/pink October.
