Mount Stephen Club, Montreal

Built in 1880 as a private residence in downtown Montreal's Golden Square Mile neighborhood, this beautiful mansion took 3 years to complete at the then astronomical cost of $600,000.00. The work of famed Canadian architect William Tutin Thomas, it is based on an Italian Renaissance palace, with sumptuous rooms proportioned on a grand scale. The house features 10 fireplaces, including an onyx fireplace in the original drawing room.

One of the most beautiful buildings in Montreal, this private residence was converted into a Gentlemen's Club in 1926.

A few minor renovations were made in the transformation for a Club. The upper structure of the conservatory was dismantled, and in place of the cast iron and glass, limestone walls were extended to provide rooms for the members' wives, since women were not permitted in the Club.

In 1964, a new bylaw authorized women to come in by the main entrance... but only on Thursdays! In the mid 70s, this rule too, was abolished and women became equal members in the Club (provided they could afford the membership).

I attended a women's business networking function at the club once. It's positively beautiful inside. There are now Sunday musical brunches and a Saturday Evening "feast" with a 7-course tasting menu that are open to the public.

I had an 8:15 am appointment at the Apple Store downtown today for help backing up some 20,000 photos onto another drive. On this cloudy morning, this imposing stone mansion looked particularly beautiful with its golden light still on. I stopped and took this photo. Hope you like it.

I've been wanting to run BNTM for such a long time. I've seen so many different NTM's either not take my liking or crumble before me, and I've decided that I should step forward and give the whole judging thing ago instead of focusing on competing! So that's what I'm doing, and this cycle is going to be beautiful.

Don't let the title fool you, just because the promo is based up pretty flowers and serenity, the competition is a completely different story.

Each week, there will be a selection of three themes, you get to choose which theme you do by a vote which will simply be held in the description of the photo.

If interest is lost in that idea by a proportion of the competitors, we will have to drop the concept and stick to only one theme.

(NOTE: I'm easy going, and if you want or don't want a theme, just tell me.)

You will have 3 days to discuss the theme then a week to do the photo.

When you travel in Iran you cannot miss some of those lovely Iranian paintings picturing beautiful girls and woman on them. One of the things that caught my eye when looking at those paintings was that women are quite often pictured with their eyebrows that are widened and painted until they appear to meet. I thought it was an artistic vision of the painter rather than a reality, till I started to notice some of the Iranian girls with same physical features. My Iranian friend has mentioned afterward that it used be a fashion style at some point in Iranian history and if the eyebrow didn't physically grow together, ladies used to paint it that way.

The gypsies or Rom people probably orginate from nomadic tribes in India, through the ages they moved from there into Western Europe. Assimilating the music of the countries they traveled through into their own music. As excellent musicians the were often asked to play by the local people on their Weddings and Funerals.

This event was inspired by a dream...

The soft hum of dream pop gently fades in, as if the sound itself is pulling her from the shadows of sleep. She opens her eyes to a world bathed in sunset—the sky is a hazy lavender and reddish orange, with stars flickering softly like forgotten memories. The air feels thick, like velvet, and everything around her glows with a surreal, pearlescent light. This is The Transcendent Realm—the dream world she has created to escape the harshness of life. In the distance, a tall man approaches, his figure gleaming like a beacon. His outfit is almost otherworldly, sleek and futuristic, all in white. His face, translucent and glowing, radiates warmth, but his eyes are deep, almost unknowable. The dreamstream hums with the sound of ethereal shoegazing as he moves closer, as if the music is an extension of the dream itself. "Welcome," he says, his voice a mix of soothing tones, like notes drifting through fog. He extends a hand, and she takes it without hesitation. His touch feels light, almost weightless, but it grounds her in this dream world in a way she can't explain. They walk together, and he leads her through the Transcendent Realm, where the impossible feels ordinary. Juniper trees with beautiful leaves sway in rhythm to the surreal electronica soundtrack that surrounds them, their colors look painted. The sky above seems to stretch endlessly, as if the horizon has no end. It's beautiful, and yet, there’s an underlying familiarity in it. She pauses as they pass a small grove of trees, and a wave of curiosity washes over her. The man notices her hesitation. "What is it?" he asks, his glowing face turning toward hers."This place..." she murmurs. "It reminds me of my childhood. I used to be so curious about everything around me." In her mind, fleeting images of her younger self exploring the woods near her home flash by—innocent, unburdened by the weight of reality. He smiles gently, but his gaze remains enigmatic. "Curiosity has a way of bringing us back to ourselves." They continue walking, the music around them evolving—soft, dreamlike, and tinged with melancholy, as though the notes are holding memories she’s forgotten. But then, without warning, the peaceful soundtrack is shattered by a sudden, blinding flash of light. Lightning, crackling with raw energy, strikes a massive stone structure in the distance. The sound reverberates through the air, sharp and overwhelming. Her heart pounds in her chest as she stares at the smoldering rock, the force of it so vivid it feels real. Too real. Before she can process it, the world begins to blur, the dream dissolving around her like smoke in the wind. She gasps, sitting up abruptly in her bed, her pulse racing. The Transcendent Realm is gone. Days pass, and she can’t shake the image of the man, his glowing face, his enigmatic smile. He seemed so real, more than just a figment of her imagination. Who was he? Was he a stranger from her waking world or a part of her own subconscious that had taken form in the dream? She finds herself longing to return to the Transcendent Realm, to the beauty of the place, and to the mystery of the man who showed her a world beyond the ordinary. Every night, she lies awake, hoping that sleep will take her back there. Back to him. But each time, she wakes up to reality. The music of the dream lingers in her mind, haunting her, pulling her back toward a world she can’t quite reach. She knows one thing for certain—whatever the Transcendent Realm is, it’s not just a dream. It’s a part of her now, forever etched in the space between dreams and reality.

It Was A Dark Night Event

Step into Lynchland's Eraserhead venue on February 24th, where reality and illusion dance together.

The music, a mix of dark Lynchian tunes and mysterious samples, pulls you into a world of dreams and fears.

Dress Code: Film Noir / Vintage Black and White (Skin and Hair can be any Color!)

Notice to ALL guests: Kindly adhere to this dresscode to fully immerse yourself in the experience. Guests not following the dress code will be asked to leave, but we encourage you to return in appropriate attire. Your cooperation is valued as we create a respectful and unforgettable atmosphere together. Thank you for joining our creative community!

The DJs will guide you through the soundscape:

3-5pm: DJ Sabbian, a virtuoso of sound, shatters boundaries with their eclectic mix.

5-7pm: DJ SHINY, enigmatic and mesmerizing, delves deeper into the music's mysteries.

7-9pm: DJ Aisling, tantalizing your senses with their melodic creations.

9-11pm: DJ Owl Sweetwater, ushering you into a realm where reality melds with dreams.

Myrdin Sommer's Visual FX and lights create a surreal atmosphere.

As midnight nears, let yourself be carried away by your desires.
