Impossible to ignore

Dreams ~ The Cranberies
As a photographer, it has always been a dream of mine to one day have a photograph featured on the cover of National Geographic magazine. Here’s to all dreamers and their dreams. Wall of covers, National Geographic Society. Washington D.C.
in dreams
i'm running
always running
fear clouds my mind
terror courses through my veins
yes
in dreams
i'm always running
running away
running to hide
running from someone
from something
i'm chased
hunted
so i run
until my chest aches
until i can't breathe
until i fall
and then
when i can't run anymore
i hear them
footfalls
voices
searching
seeking
i know
in my dreams i know
they will find me
i scream when they do
the fear
the terror
the panic
of what will come next
and in that scream
that wonderful
beautiful
scream
i save myself
i wake up
heart pounding
breath catching in my throat
yes
in dreams
i'm always running.
The young IDF soldier’s life changed in an instant when three bullets ripped through his torso. For Radi Kaiuf, the good news was that he survived. The bad news was that the doctors told him that he would never walk again. In other words, as the patient hears it, “You are going to live, but you will have no life.” He spent his days, as many paraplegics, confined to a wheelchair, dreaming of walking again.
Although Radi did not know it at the time, elsewhere in Israel another man by the name of Amit Goffer had been paralyzed in an automobile accident. Although no longer having the use of either his arms or his legs, Amit had the training – he is a scientist and inventor – and the determination to walk again also. And he set out to do something about it. He explained that “It’s natural to me that, if there is a problem, physics has a solution.” The solution was an invention he calls ReWalk.
ReWalk is light-weight exoskeleton that a paraplegic can literally sit in, then fasten some straps, press a button, and be standing tall in just a few seconds. Then, through the use of the same tilt technology that is used in a Segway, the individual, assisted by the power of the ReWalk, can walk in any direction he or she pleases, including backward. Radi and others have discovered that they need no other special accommodations like ramps, because they can climb and descend stairs without assistance.
There is an amazing and unexpected theme that is common in the testimonials of ReWalk users. They all tell how wonderful it is for them to be able to stand and talk to other people at eye level. They share how they no longer feel left out of conversations as they did when confined to a seated position.
An IDF soldier and an Israel scientist are inspiring and giving hope to tens of thousands of paraplegics all over Israel and Europe. ReWalk is waiting for FDA approval in the US, which, hopefully, should happen soon. The US Department of Veterans Affairs has already agreed to subsidize the cost of ReWalk units for injured veterans.
A final word . . . and the rest of the story. We need to note Amit Goffer’s incomparable display of compassion and love for others. You see, he can’t use his own invention yet, because he is a quadriplegic and therefore does not have the use of his arms that is necessary to use ReWalk.
Here is a way to pay homage to Radi and Amit. The next time you are standing in line, for whatever reason it may be, instead of being frustrated, take the time to pray for the peace of Jerusalem (Psalm 122:6) and thank the Lord for men like Radi and Amit who are making the joy of standing in line possible again for those whose dream it is to walk again.

My dream is becoming her dream. She asks to go the beach several times a week to photograph the sunset. She has taken over my second camera body and totes it around, asking a million questions about light and focus.
This image also illustrates a dream for me. 15 years ago this week, my camera loving daughter came into our lives, fulfilling one of my greatest dreams. : )

The dream heart bead and skeleton key bead are made by me. I antiqued them to give them an old, worn and romantic feel.
The gemstone beads are variscite, labradorite, and african turquoise.
All the beads are knotted in place on the brown waxed linen cording.
The toggle clasp is an antiqued faux bone button made by me.
The necklace measures 24"
A dream thousands yearn for but only a few lucky ones achieve, so every time you see what you have achieved hold on to it tight and pat yourself for all the hard work you did for it.

"Dream Catchers"
~As legend goes, the Dream Catcher is hung in the lodge near the sleeping area. Its purpose is to catch all dreams, good or bad. The bad dreams caught in the webbing would be burned off by the first morning light. The good dreams caught know their way to the hole in the center and filter down into the feathers. They are held there to be dreamed another night.~
I have many infatuations with dream catchers, native american beliefs, and dreaming in general. It all fascinates me with the way our mind works and produces these thoughts and images in our head while we sleep. This photo is meant to represent the dreams being caught by the multiple dream catchers (5 - i know they're difficult to see). The dreams are represented by the flowing smoke. I hope you enjoy. I've been thinking about doing this for a while and am very happy with the results. : )

Tru2U empowers young girls to face challenges of adolescence
By Joyce Coronel | May 21, 2009 | The Catholic Sun
Decked out in pale pink T-shirts emblazoned with the Tru2U logo, 42 eighth-grade girls from St. Thomas the Apostle listened to Amy Aker tell them how she found her prince.
You could have heard a pin drop.
Aker, an attractive young mother of three, went on to describe how she learned that only God could fulfill all of her needs and be the man of her dreams.
Parents have long worried about the “boy crazy” phase girls go through in the formative years of adolescence. A group of moms from St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic School got together and came up with a way to reach and empower young ladies with a message of faith and purity.
Laura Westfall, a nurse practitioner and mother of an eighth-grade daughter, often sees young female patients who must deal with the unanticipated consequences of poor decision-making.
It was while she was on a sunrise hike and reflecting on her daughter’s upcoming graduation that the idea of a retreat for girls came to her. She turned to six other moms at the school who in a short amount of time were able to organize the retreat, held at Mount Claret May 7.
The day began at 6 a.m. with a team-building activity involving ropes and an obstacle course. Then the girls were off to hear a slate of speakers their mothers had arranged.
They learned about the role nutrition plays from fitness expert Tricia Leach who counseled them to make wise choices about food, but most of all, to know who they were before God.
After asking the girls to rate themselves as daughters and students on a scale from 1 to 10, she surprised them by letting them know that no matter how they saw themselves, God considers each one of them to be a “perfect 10.”
