It was well past 8 and the sun cast long, golden shadows through Cannaregio. While wandering through one of the remote canals, I noticed a small wooden doorway ajar under one of the buildings….it was more of a ship’s hatch, with an intriguing collection of flotsam hanging on the inside of the door. As I approached, I was able to see that the door opened to a narrow workshop, nestled between the street and open to the canal on the opposite side. Inside this dark workshop was an Italian gentleman tying fly-fishing lures – feathers, fishing gear, and bottles of wine surrounded him. It was one of the most amazing rooms I’ve ever seen. A remote curiosity shop out of a summer’s dream. I said, “Buona Sera,” and was invited in. He said his name was Andrea and this was where he gets away, “my phone won’t work here so my wife can’t call.” He poured me a glass of cool white wine and showed me the beautiful golden pheasant he was using for fly feathers. Just then, a lovely blond woman ducked into the workshop. It was Monica, his wife. The three of us sat there a while talking about Venice, photography and their lives. It was surreal and beautiful evening in Venice.

All men dream, but not equally. Those who dream by night in the dusty recesses of their minds, wake in the day to find that it was vanity: but the dreamers of the day are dangerous men, for they may act on their dreams with open eyes, to make them possible.
- Thomas E. Lawrence
this is not a usual site around my office(coz my office area is surrounded by quite nice buildings)....makes me think how lucky we are to sleep in our comfortable beds while this woman sleeps in this kind of place....but makes me think also how lucky she is to have time to sleep at this time i took this shot...while other people dont sleep because they have to overtime so much (sometimes work themselves to death...haha) to earn more money....hehe...so i guess at some point she has an anvantage over those people?.......maybe....

Although it is only Spring in Sydney, the weather has been unusually warm for this time of year, hence my trip to Collaroy beach to capture some of its beauty.
[Information from 'Beachsafe website]
Narrabeen-Collaroy beach is Sydney's second longest beach. The 3.6 km long beach curves in a gentle east-facing arc between 20 m high Narrabeen Head in the north to rocks and low cliff at Collaroy Point, with beachfront houses and apartments backing much of the beach. The northern Narrabeen end was named after the daughter of the aboriginal chief at the time of early white settlement in the 1840s, while the southern Collaroy end was named after the paddle-wheel steamer ‘Collaroy’ wrecked on the beach in 1884. Collaroy Beach was a weekenders and campers haven in the early part of the century.

"Sweet dreams are made of this
Who am I to disagree?
I travel the world
And the seven seas
Everybody's looking for something.
Some of them want to use you
Some of them want to get used by you
Some of them want to abuse you
Some of them want to be abused. "

Dream is a sculpture and a piece of public art by Jaume Plensa in Sutton, St Helens, Merseyside. Costing approximately £1.8m, it was funded through The Big Art Project in coordination with the Arts Council England, the Art Fund and Channel 4.
In 2008 St Helens took part in Channel 4's "The Big Art Project" along with several other sites. The project culminated in the unveiling of "Dream", a 66 feet sculpture located on the old Sutton Manor Colliery site.
St Helens retains strong cultural ties to the coal industry and has several monuments including the wrought iron gates of Sutton Manor Colliery, as well as the 1995 town centre installation by Thompson Dagnall known as "The Landings" (depicting individuals working a coal seam) and Arthur Fleischmann's Anderton Shearer monument (a piece of machinery first used at the Ravenhead Mine).
The council and local residents (including approximately 15 former miners from the colliery) were involved in the consultation and commission process through which the Dream was selected. The plans involved a full landscaping of the surrounding area on land previously allowed to go wild after the closure of the pit.
Dream consists of an elongated white structure 66 feet (20 m) tall, weighing 500 tons, which has been cast to resemble the head and neck of a young woman with her eyes closed in meditation. The structure is coated in sparkling white Spanish dolomite, as a contrast to the coal which used to be mined here. It cost nearly £1.9 million and it is hoped it will become as powerful a symbol in North West England as Antony Gormley's Angel of the North is in North East England.
Jaume Plensa himself stated "When I first came to the site I immediately thought something coming out of the earth was needed. I decided to do a head of a nine-year-old girl which is representing this idea of the future. It's unique."
The original design of the sculpture called for a skyward beam of light from the top of the head, and the sculpture's working title was "Ex Terra Lucem" ("From the ground, light"), a reference to St Helens' previous motto. Due to objections from the Highways Agency, the sculpture was not lit, but in 2010 a new planning application was submitted to St Helens Council for it to be floodlit.
Construction
The Dream sculpture is built out of moulded and cast unique concrete shapes, 90 pieces in all contributing to over 14 tiers (54 individual elements for the head, each weighing 9 tonnes). Dolomite was utilised as a concrete aggregate in order to provide the brilliant white finish. Additionally titanium dioxide was added to the mix in order to provide a self-cleaning mechanism. The construction required the construction of individual moulds for each piece and took a total of 60 days to cast.
The foundations of the sculpture extend 125 feet into the ground with 8 piles driven in to secure it.
The sculpture is sited on an old spoil tip of Sutton Manor Colliery which closed in 1991 and it overlooks the M62 motorway. Prospective visitors may download audio guides and smartphone apps before visiting.
