I wanted to kick off the new year with moving my sewing machine in front of a window where I can enjoy beautiful morning light and at the same time I wanted to use the old sewing table as a cutting table. For a few days everything went well, but quite soon the cutting mat vanished under piles of new fabric - my favorite Christmas present - and fabric lying around that I hadn’t gotten to dealing with.

So between the holidays it was about time to reorganize my stash. While I was sorting fabrics by color and folding it, I threw all the small fabric pieces - smaller than a fat eight - into a basket below the sewing table. After two afternoons the surface of the old sewing table was looking quite good, the cutting mat was ready for the next sewing adventure and my cupboard was as tidy as possible. However, now every time I wanted to get to my cutting mat, I had to step around an overflowing scrap basket.

To cut a long story short, I needed another scrap busting project. Therefore I sorted the scraps by color and cut the light colored ones into 2,5 inch squares. When I looked at the different sizes of the piles, I got aware that it would be best to make bags in different sizes - the larger the pile, the larger the drawstring bag. This blue one will be the largest one by far. Now I need another medium sized bag for the yellow and orange scraps.

aka drawstring bag :)

Dear partner, due to Turid´s saying that a EPP pouch dooes not need to have a zipper, I said to myself why not looking for something else to close a bag ... this is what I have seen over at quarter inch mark.

I hope you like this little bag!!

Embroidery was my first love before I became a quilt addict. Every once in a while, I'm tempted of getting rid of all the embroidery material and tools. However, right now I'm so glad that I never succeeded in mariekondoing this drawer because even if a month ago these embroidery threads didn't spark my joy, today they do. : )

Hexie-fied Essex linen drawstring bag; 7.5" x 8.75" Many thanks to Kylie (www.flickr.com/photos/threehoneybees/) for getting me hooked on hexies by sending me a darling hexie-decorated tissue holder, posted earlier in my stream. ♥♥♥

The basic bag, minus hexies, is from a great tutorial here:

Thought that appliqueing the hexies on with clear thread might be a nightmare, but it was perfectly fine. The lining is longer than the exterior and wraps to the outside, forming the casing. The only things I'd do differently next time would be to make the drawstring casing area taller, as I had a bit of trouble threading my ribbon through, and I'd do reinforcement stitching at the top of the side seams on the lining due to the stress of the drawstrings there.

Made from the tiny scraps left from making baby slings and very much inspired by this one.

WIP - low volume drawstring bag: time to use some of the squares which I cut for the Irish Chain Quilt, but didn't use in the end.

Made based on tutorial by Pink Penguin(http://ayumills.blogspot.com)!

Finally! Yesterday I got a spare hour, sat down and finished this drawstring bag from last September. I used the green ribbon because I ran out of time. Maybe I'll change it when I find time to make the ties from a printed fabric.

If you are interested in more pictures, you'll find them in the albums "WIP / A quilter's diary" and "Small quilted items". Happy sewing and quilting!

I started playing with my hexagons with no specific project in mind and ended up with this very useful bag. Right now it is used for storing the content of the little drawers of my old sewing table, like ribbons, zippers and so on. I definitely prefer it to plastic boxes.

No. 15 of the 100 scrap projects challenge

I like it even better than the first one. Maybe because I felt like using up some long time favorite fabrics. Now there is still enough of the same kind of batting for a smaller bag.

Partner, what do you think about this little bag as your small project. And duh, it was late and after I added the ties, I realized they weren't solid! Does it matter?? (pattern by Jeni of In Color Order)

Made this drawstring bag for my giveaway winner. Full of sewing supplies and fun materials

I knew already which side I wanted to use as bottom of the drawstring bag, but I wasn't sure if I wanted a rectangular or square flat bottom. I used some sewing pins in order to check the dimensions before sewing and cutting the fabric for the interior.

Made it using the following tutorial, but I made a couple of changes:

www.aspoonfulofsugardesigns.com/2012/08/pretty-drawstring...

I made the lining longer because I found the casing kind of skimpy on my first one. I used 1/2" seams. That way, I was able to turn the casing opening under twice, eliminating the possibility of raw edges peeking out at the sides.

unless you stick your neck out."

Had fun with some fabric (on the right) which I found after purchasing a baby journal (on the left) with giraffes! I created a draw string bag to enclose the hand-bound journal. The centerfold of the tree was just a quick night capture in a parking lot, but I love how the few remaining leaves compliment the quotation!

Have a wonderful weekend everyone!

Knitted this little treasure bag with part of a skein of hand died wool. It is my own adaptation of this pattern on Ravelry:
