inspired by this amazing vintage portuguese drawstring bag. All fabrics from Retrosaria.
drawstring bags were traditionally used in Portugal for transporting cereal, bread, meals, clothes, etc. and they are the most visible expression of patchwork in our country.
Sample bag for the Sweet & Simple Scrappy Swap - so excited to use my bee hive fabric and my sweet Charlie Harper scraps. I'm using this for sizing to see how my panel idea for my partner's bag will lay as well as how much room I have to stuff it with goodies! I love this pattern!

16" H x 10 !/2" W x 4 1/2"D - which is large enough to hold a folded 40" x 48" Baby Quilt.

I made these for OmaTam in the MQTS little bag swap... I have majorly fallen in love with Kaffe Collections so I had to throw a little of that in there... ;-)
- exterior scrappy quilt-as-you-go panel 24 x 12 inches
- striped accent fabric 24 x 8 inches
- interior fabric 24 x 12 inches
- leave 3 inch opening for turning your right sides out later
Material needed for the drawstring bag:
- 2 fat quarters (from Anne Maria Horner's collection Hand Drawn Garden)
- 1 fat quarter for lining (dark grey text print)
- cotton batting
- fusible interfacing
- ribbon

Clutch exterior fabric is Summer Totem in Strudel. Clutch lining fabric is Hugs & Kisses in Pink Lime. Changing Pad & Applique fabric is Triflora in Lipstick.
Diaper Clutch Pattern is the Grab 'n' Go Diaper Clutch by Sew Fun www.sewfun.com/ It includes the clutch and the changing pad.
Blanket Fabrics are from Patty Young's first line of 100% cotton knits for Michael Miller. Size is approx. 40" x 40"
Draw String Bag is a modified version of Jeni Baker's Lined Drawstring Bag Pattern. To make a wider & deeper bag with a more prominent accent section, started with measurements for the Artist Bag, added 4 1/2" to width, added 1" to height of the accent pieces, subtracted 1" from the exterior pieces. Positioned the top of the drawstring casing at the center of the accent section and made the boxed corner seams 7" long.

I whipped up a new drawstring bag today--a little peach and green one with feedsack florals and stripes. These make such nice knitting or crochet project bags, you feed your yarn up through the top and pull the top closed and your yarn still feeds up through the opening but it won't get away from you.

Orphan block turned into a pouch. R2D2 pattern by Quiet Play and pouch pattern by Stitched in Color.
My drawstring bag has only one seam at one side because I didn't want to cut into the pattern. Therefore there is also only one opening for the drawstrings.
The lower part is machine quilted. The upper part is just fabric. For the lining (not visible) I used a dark grey text print.
I had to sew together three pieces: the machine quilted panel, the fabric with the flower print and the lining (text print, not visible). When I sewed the lining and the flower print together, I left a small opening for being able to turn the inside out later.
If you need help for making a drawstring bag, Jenny from In Color Order has a great tutorial! However, her drawstring bag has a seam at each side. By now, I have probably confused everybody. ;-)
I can't stop making these little draw string "marble" bags! The boys are still using theirs for their marbles, but DD thought they'd make a great little bag for her digital camera, and I'm thinking I need one for my Zune!
The Whitby Goth Weekend. The biannual Goth culture and fashion gathering is the 2nd largest of its kind in the world, and took place on October 27th - 29th 2017 in the North Yorkshire fishing town. The origins of the Goth festival is said to be based around the town that writer Bram Stoker penned the story of Dracula, drawing inspiration from the abbey looking down upon Whitby.

I make no apologies for including so many images of this puzzle: it's from a new British manufacturer so I think it deserves a little more attention.
I saw a mention of Sylva Puzzles in a Facebook group so headed to their website. Only one image appealed: this one; the rest are modern subjects.
So I took the plunge and ordered, assuming that being British, it would arrive fairly quickly.
Unfortunately, what they don't make clear is that they don't (so far) keep stocks in UK; their puzzles are made in China, so delivery took longer than I'd anticipated.
Communication was haphazard - I got an email asking my opinion of the puzzle a few days before it arrived, and then another telling me delivery was imminent after it had supposedly travelled from China to the USA!
Needless to say I was amazed when it turned up the following day!
So what's my opinion of the puzzle itself?
Let's start with the cardboard box it was sent in. Some outer damage (possibly down to Evri's 'careful' (!) handling, but nothing too bad.
Now to the puzzle box itself. A badly dented lid (see photo) and a small dent to the corner of the box base - probably due to Evri's handling. I can put up with this, it's too much trouble to ask for it to be rectified and doesn't affect the puzzle.
The box is actually quite sturdy, but twice the size it needs to be. A couple of cards were inside with some information about the artist and the company, and the pieces themselves, housed in a velvety drawstring bag, all gave the impression of a quality item. My only gripe here is the poor print quality on those cards, the spelling could be better, too.
Now for the puzzle itself: and here's where I want to heap praise where it's due! Wonderfully thick pieces, heaps of clever and imaginative whimsies, and a fiendishly irregular border, made for a couple of days' fun.
So all in all, I have to say I'm pleased with my purchase, but with reservations; perhaps once they've sorted out their teething problems and maybe started to hold stocks in UK I may be tempted to buy from them again.
