These two items were found on my kitchen floor, last week. I assume they came in on my shoes, somehow. I just thought it was so interesting, the similarities of these remnants from two very different living things.
Found these dragonfly wings on the boardwalk over at Irwin Prairie back in June. You can see the moisture under the wings and the shadow of the veins on the wood. In this shot you can see all of the wings.
I have it on pretty good authority that this was a wandering glider (Pantala flavescens) dragonfly but I'm open to suggestions. I'm not an entomologist and don't usually photograph insects yet this one was too beautiful to pass on.

not dead, playing dead...it flew from the side of the lounger to the top, but flipped, and played dead on a towel...

Whilst hanging out the clothes in the backyard a dragonfly flew in.
I had my camera with me and spent 10 minutes chasing it until it settled down
On gossamer wings, they fly effortlessly, weightlessly.. They turn and dive and swoop at one another at breakneck speeds, and then hover the next instant as if admiring their own reflection in the water below... And all on these stiff little wings that are so thin that they would be invisible if it weren't for the tiny network of ribs that spread out in repeating patterns and give suprising strength to wings that last only a season, and then are gone...
Delamore Arts and Sculpture Exhibition takes place annually, every day in May. The imposing house was built in 1859 for Ann Praed and George Parker when they were married. The gardens which are rarely open to the public were laid out at a similar time with plantings of newly imported rhododendrons and magnificent trees. Seen at their best during May, they are an ideal backdrop for sculpture large and small, from well established to new and emerging artists.The light rooms make a superb gallery for paintings and indoor sculptures.
