Fish eating Robin is quite a novelty.
The American Robins' diets are primarily insects and worms in the summer months when those are common and abundant. But in the winter months, insects are hard to find.
In one of our city's parks, a small flock of robins that overwintered there was seen pulling minnows out of small ice openings near the edge of the pond that were partially frozen.
The lack of insect protein diet may explain why these resourceful robins had taught themselves how to ice fish, and found themselves an excellent food source in winter.

American Avocet feeding
This needed a low viewpoint to make the picture work.
The Avocet was serious about finding something to eat and was constantly moving. I had to patiently wait for the moment when the bird would stop long enough for me to click off some shots.

A short rest and preening sessions was next on the agenda for this female Mallard, and I caught her in a wing flapping motion.
It was a bright overcast morning, calm and perfect for soft and photogenic images with appealing colours. And I did not have to contend with waves on the water.

One of the advantages of concealing and waiting on the rocky shoreline is that I was able to plan my shots ahead rather than reacting and shooting quickly.
The sun was fast setting. I was ready with my camera settings when this dapper individual swam by, and I was happy to catch a few shots of him before the clouds covered the setting sun once again.

My wife inherited her late grandfather's old camping/hunting/fishing camper. When we were digging around in there we found a tackle box that, among other things, contained his old "fishing glasses." Our youngest son was pretty interested in them and tried them on. I'm happy that this photo captures an interesting cross generational connection between my son and a great grandfather that he never met.
Loving these black and white transparencies! I'm getting ready to mount some of these and project them.
