Today Mandy Willard and I went to a very wet and windy Brighton. The funfair on Brighton pier had no visitors and all the staff were bored to tears. Mind the sea was spectacularly rough.

Bumper cars or dodgems are the generic names for a type of fairground amusement activity, which consisting of small very low speed toy cars, which which draw electrical power from the floor and/or ceiling. Bumper cars were not, originally, intended to be bumped, hence the original name "Dodgem." but in practice this was universally ignored. They are also known as bumping cars, dodging cars and dashing cars. The first patent for bumper cars was filed in 1921

Bumper car is the generic name for a type of flat ride consisting of several small electric cars which draw power from the floor and/or ceiling, and which are turned on and off remotely by an operator. They are also known as dodgem cars, or simply dodgems, the last name being the usual term in British English.

And then you left me, left me standing on my own by the dodgems, as the world rushed by around me.

Lenin Square in the town of Pripyat’ was home to an amusement park, part of its envied quality of life. Now all is decaying.

Pripyat’ (Ukrainian: Прип’ять) is a ghost city which was built to house the workers of the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant, just 3 kilometres away. Named after the nearby river Pripyat, the city was founded on 4 February 1970, as the ninth nuclear city or “atomgrad” in the USSR. It was officially proclaimed a city in 1979 and had grown to a population of 49,360 by the time it was evacuated on the afternoon of 27 April 1986, the day after the Chernobyl disaster.

The Soviet authorities wanted to attract the best workers to the strategically and economically critical megaproject, so Pripyat’ had a notably high standard of living compared with most Soviet cities, with generously sized apartments, well-stocked supermarkets and hotels, and even its own amusement park.

I took this photo in March 1999 with my Minolta Maxxim 5000 35 mm SLR Film Camera with Color Print Film and I scanned the Negative to generate this Electronic Image. I took the photo at a car show, here in Florida, however I can't remember where, since I could not find my notes and I failed to mark the Slide with the pertinent information. I have a vague recollection of a show I attended in Homosassa or Homosassa Springs, Florida and this might be where I took the photo. The Photo shows an old bumper car, that was for sale.

Disclaimer: Since I took this photo in March 1999, while I was still learning Photography, some of my original Negatives are of poor quality in both Exposure and Sharpness, which I could only partially correct with Adobe Photoshop™
