An album containing postcards mostly sent during the first two decades of the twentieth century, donated by Chris Mason.

This document pre-dates 1979 when the 4th ship to carry the name "Raeburn" was scrapped. Interesting the way stowage had to be thought out and planned with so much being loaded and unloaded at various ports on the voyage to Brazil. Note how many barrels/tons of "whisky" where shipped from Glasgow.

I have documented a fairly wide range of abandonments, but none where the stakes were quite as high as Pyestock! The place is rigidly fortified with security fencing and maintains a 24-hour patrol, so it takes a degree of strategy and determination to gain access.

Without going into too much detail, the process of entering these buildings was one which expended a lot of energy. I was experiencing a caffeine-fuelled, light headed sort of euphoria by the time that we emerged from the stale subterranean darkness of the Air House's western facade. As a large iron door creaked open in front of us, this scene was our reward. The morning sun had erupted with glorious colour and the old compressor machines were awash with golden yellow hues. The timing of these lighting conditions was absolutely ideal - when sunbeams are near horizontal, they illuminate the structure in a helpful manner which only occurs for a few minutes each day.
