I have just seen the most extraordinary thing

Call me naive

For a white middle class

middle aged man

like me

a

law abiding citizen

a payer

£90 a month of council tax

to maintain my borough

and its police

A young black guy

out with his friend

being ordered

by an officer

to drop his pants

in a London street

A stop and search in Grange Road,

Southwark,

1604

check the sheet

as I walk home

from the pub

The lads look like children

15 as written

and local to the area

polite and smart

and told me they were out

bored

after an Easter Sunday

at home

with mum

They are from Sierra Leone

Here in our town

my free town

some three years

on

The police

they say

came by

in a van

Pulled over

got out

Pockets were searched

PNC is checked

nothing known

Under pants inspected

(Times one)

Nothing found

And why

because terrorism trumps

Magna Carta?

Not so as

the docket says

This is a high crime area

My arse

Mr Swift

PC

If so

stop me

We have words for these kids

roundabouts

here

we call them

citizens

and sons

And the superintendent

in whose name it is done

at home

having Sunday roast

no doubt

Great job

my uniformed friends

Two more young black men

marginalised

and lost

And the funniest part

on a day

when

some remember

another wrongly accused

and hung

close to Gethsemane

You get a form 5090 (X)

when you are abused

and humiliated

like this

One lad puts it back

on the railings

and was told

allegedly

(I’m pleased to acknowledge the police have rights too)

he’d be arrested for littering

if he didn’t

pick it up

So the cop screwed it up

and throw it

into his van

This much

I saw

and I accuse

By Christ

I do

Club Okay with new manager

This weekend, Club Okay will have a new club manager. Hans-Michael Tappen will be replaced by Wolfgang Hegner. Hans-Michael, who managed the club for over a year, turned the discotheque into a popular meeting place for young people thanks to his ideas and selfless initiative. Over 2,000 members is an impressive achievement. The purchase of a new amplifier system and the reconstruction after the break-in on New Year's Eve are also thanks to his energy. His fun ideas, such as the election of “Miss and Mister Club Okay” and the trip to the musical Hair, ensured him the sympathy of the young guests. Wolfgang Hegner, however, will prove to be a suitable successor.
