Title:Court order signed by John Sevier
Date Original:1779-11-24
Description:Sevier served as the first governor of Tennessee, and as a US Representative. He was a commander during the American Revolution. In this letter, he directs the county sheriff to take George Howard if in his “bailiwick” to answer “a plea of trespass…to the damage of” John Hamilton in the amount of 1,000 pounds. Sevier signs as clerk of the court of pleas and sessions and has written out most of the document; Spruce Mackay, attorney for the plaintiff, has filled in days, months, names of parties and the offence, and signed at lower left. The document notes it is the fourth year of American Independence. Dated less than a year before he fought at Kings Mountain, S.C.

We froze Kerri's panties at a slumber party! Eeeek! And lots of other stupid/mean things. But it was all in good fun. No matter, because she won: She became a cheerleader and was way more popular than I was anyway.
Mrs. Julia Utten Browne & Cautley papers, Letter from H E Evans, Trustee & Legal opinion re Mrs Cautley dated 9th September 1913. In the letter he states that it should not be assumed that his cousin Dorothea Cautley will confirm the Settlement, though he thinks it is likely she might. He also asks for Counsel’s opinion, does the Agreement made for he before her marriage hold good if she does repudiates it and would she then become entitled to take over the fund under the terms of Mrs Julia Utten Browne, Lilly’s Will. Also an outline of the opinion that is being sought.
Attached to the letter is the Counsel’s opinion by J. F. W. Galbraith. 3 New Square, Lincoln’s Inn dated 17th October 1913 which was made 9 days after the death of Mrs Julia Utten Browne, Lilly on the 8th October 1913.
He was Harry Edgar Lawrence of 45 Essex Street, City of London, a Cousin of Julia Utten Browne whom she had appointed a Executor/Trustee of her will following the death of her husband in 1903. He was also a Trustee of the Will which contained the Trust to which her daughter Dorothea Julia Beatrice Gertrude, nee Browne, Cautley became entitled to.
The German soldier was part of the Heeresgruppenkommando F, Kaiserlich-türk. Telegraphen-Abteilung 'Kleinasien' (Army Group F, Imperial German-Ottoman Telegraphical Detachment 'Asia Minor') as motorcyclists. He had been serving already in Beersheva in 1916 (second advance against the Suez) and later in Gaza, he was awarded the Gallipoli star (Eiserner Halbmond) in Tell Sheria.
The German-Ottoman HQ was located in mid-1918 in Nazareth.

Set of photos of pages from an old Special Traffic Notice detailing the arrangements in connection with the introduction of colour light signalling through East Croydon and Purley on the Brighton Main Line some 60 years ago in May 1955.
Fascinating stuff for me to see in the 18 page document including (in no particular order):-
Twelve hour clock.
Blackboards to be exhibited in prominent positions (page 2).
Yeovil Town to Gravesend Central milk train (page 2).
Coulsdon North station being open at weekends.
Victoria to provide brake van for Redhill portion of diverted 9.30pm Parcels from Victoria to Brighton (page 4).
Light engine movements to Bricklayers Arms Shed.
'Road motor' replacement for staff between various locations.
4.45am & 4.50am (Pass & News) from London Bridge being diverted via the Mid Kent line, Selsdon and Oxted as well as running south of East Grinstead to Horsted Keynes and then via Ardingly to Haywards Heath. (page 9).
5.15am (Pass & News) from East Croydon to Bognor Regis starting from London Bridge and running via the Mid Kent line, Oxted, Crowhurst Spur to Edenbridge, where a Turnover Engine (TE) took the train to Redhill where another 'TE' took the train on towards the Sussex coast '8 minutes later thence' (page 9).
9.28pm (Pass & Postal) from Margate to Cannon Street running via Edenbridge, Crowhurst Spur, Oxted, Selsdon and the Mid Kent line (page 10).
The interesting freight movements on pages 14 & 15 (including empty wooden mineral wagons to Merstham) with trains either being worked by Electric Locos (EL) or Steam Hauled (SH). Some of the freights were revised to run via Horsham and Shorehan by Sea via Steyning.
District Inspector Anscombe had a busy couple of nights being in attendance at Horsham Yard from 11.0pm Saturday and Three bridges Yard from 10.0pm Sunday.
For me I think the best part is the simplicity of it all, just an 18 page traffic notice for introduction of colour light signalling over one Saturday night. 60 years on of course and there would now be Project Managers and the like and the line would be shut all weekend. Still at least things are more efficient now aren't they!................
Not trying to add gasoline to the acquisition fire (I support it), it's just a dictionary definition. I got my new "Shorter" Oxford English Dictionary today (yes, I'm excited) and was thinking of words to look up. This one came to mind, and I hadn't seen those definitions before.

This manuscript, illustrated with 155 marginal paintings, is one the few surviving “marginal psalters,” in which images provide a pictorial commentary on the Biblical text. Other examples include the Khludov Psalter (ca. 850 CE, Moscow, State Historical Museum, Muz. 129), the Barberini Psalter (ca. 1050 CE, Vat. Barb. Gr. 372), the Theodore Psalter (1066 CE, London, British Library, Add. Ms. 19,352), and a Cyrillic psalter made in Kiev (1397 CE, Saint Petersburg, National Library of Russia, cod. OLDP, F6). The Walters' psalter was apparently copied from the same eleventh-century model as the Saint Petersburg manuscript, as the iconography of the two is very similar.

Transcript: "Christmas in British Columbia. We generally get in a food supply of provisions for Xmas. And the indians as a rule bring in all the "luxuries" of the season. Such as moose nose, reindeer tongue, beaver & wild geese. Also fresh trout caught under the ice with nets. 'Making the pudding' is a great undertaking when you are without raisons or any of the necessaries. I once made one of flour, moose suet & dried berries. It certainly wasn't very rich & I am afraid not very well cooked for tho' we enjoyed it immensely at the time the effects next morning we terrific. -HBW.
We always hoist the Flag (the union Jack with H.B.Co. on it) on Sundays, Xmas & other particular days. To the astonishment of the [?] who think it 'great medicine'

I think I picked this up at the 1978 Motor Show - the one where 6835 was exhibited.

This book of English heraldry was completed ca. 1589. The manuscript belonged to the Spencer family, as known through inscriptions on the first few flyleaves, including the motto "Dieu defende Le Droit" (God defends the right). This motto has long been associated with the Spencer family of England, which is the family line of Princess Diana, as well as the Spencers who were among the founders of Virginia. The Spencer family's heraldry is included in the manuscript, along with the coats of arms of numerous prominent British families, including the Hasting, Gray, Beuford, and Percye families. There is another similar book of English Heraldry in the British Library, Stowe MS 693, which was also completed at the end of the sixteenth century.
