Творчество Федора Петровича Толстого, одного из крупных художественных и общественных деятелей – яркая страница в истории отечественного искусства первой половины XIX века. Мастер медальерного дела, скульптор и живописец, рисовальщик и декоратор, автор балетов и повестей … Не было области искусства, в которой не пробовал бы своих сил Толстой. Произведения художника хранятся во многих музеях страны и в частных собраниях. Многие из его работ не подписаны и не датированы. Часто бывает неясно, кто изображен на том или ином портрете или какой сюжет лежит в основе того или иного рисунка. Все это определило одну из задач данного исследования – внести как можно больше ясности в вопросы авторства и проанализировать характер творческой деятельности мастера. Диссертация издана в 3-х томах, два из которых – альбомы великолепных иллюстраций.

Art as a Crime
All identities will remain anonymous, unless otherwise specified. Artists will be denoted as [Artist 1, UK, Stencil] artist, location, genre. Please state if you wish to be named in the dissertation.
I think it would be helpful to give a basic outline of my area of research and what my dissertation is about. I have just finished a paper on Art as a crime- exploring attitudes towards graffiti and street art. I would now like to explore this area from the artists view point.
The aim of my dissertation is to explore the factors and reasons why people become involved in street art and graffiti. How they feel about committing a crime each time a work is placed on the streets. What influences or other subcultures and art movements have affected the work. In today’s market driven economy street art is in demand, how has this affected the work of graffiti artists. If financial gain is a driving factor in the creation of their art. should graffiti and street art be de-criminalised and the effect this may have on the subculture.
I have set out some questions below if you could answer as many as possible. If you have anything else to add please do, I value your opinion and experience. It would be very helpful if you could attach an image of your recent work, or provide a link to an online example.
1. Could you please explain how you first became involved with graffiti/street art and what your social background is.
Has the type of graffiti/street art you do now changed as you have gotten older.
Would you call yourself a graffiti writer, street artist or other.
2. Do you consider what you do art
3. What genre do you work in, e.g. graff writing, stencil, paste-up, sticker, multimedia, sculpture, other.
4. What and who are your influences
5. What are your main reasons for working in this area
6. Do you now do work for galleries and if so has this had any effect on the work you do on the street?
7. Did you start in the established art world (includes art school) and progress to the street, if yes what were your reasons for this
8. Is financial gain a driving factor in the creation of your art.
9. Is choice of location and placement important in your work.
10. What effect do you think Graffiti/street art has on the area and the people that live there? Have you ever been arrested/cautioned for graffiti/street art?
11. Should graffiti/street art be de-criminalised, what effect do you think this would have on the subcultures if any.
12. Some cities now have authorised graffiti areas, what affect do you think this has on graffiti?
13. How do you feel about committing a crime every time you place some art on the street?
14. If people had a better understanding of graffiti/street art and the reasons behind it would their view of it change?
