Philadelphia

Development in Philly is out of control, worsening conditions for working class people & the environment. Hundreds of community activists took to the streets to set the tone for Philly's 2023 election: anyone running for mayor or city council better have policy solutions for ensuring long-term, working class residents have a place in this city and that Philly is truly tackling and prepared for the climate crisis.

The march was organized by community groups fighting for land justice across our city, including Philly Thrive, Sunrise Movement, VietLead, Save UCTownhomes, Save the Meadows, Cobbs Creek EJ, and more!

During my short trip to document protest for Greenpeace India after the arrests of four activists of Mahan Sangharsh Samiti in May 2014, I also documented daily life, graffiti of resistance, tendu patta collection, trees which will be felled in case mining starts for them.

Through this project Gridding and Displacement, I have first of all to work on various collages of which I had selected and cut in various fashion magazines and decoration, I have then to bring various elements as the head of bulldog, chairs or still the camera which for me gave a sense to these collages and their allowed to have a certain structure which for me reflected very well this project. I wanted thus then to draw in the charcoal one of my collages, the head of bulldog of which we can perceive representing a face, I chose this collage because it divides in several parts. First of all I had selected this backgrounds in black and white at the end to bring a contrast according to the colors which I had brought by the hair of the bulldog and its yellow, red shoes and green, then the body of this model was thus very colored I wished to break this model by adding it the head and the legs of the bulldog to bring a pop and bright side to this collage.

I am playing with Displacement maps to make water.

Type: Fishing vessel

Length: 32ft 6ins

Beam: 11ft 6ins

Draft: 3ft.

Displacement: 7 1/2 tonnes dwt

Engine: 150hp Ford 6D Diesel

Construction: larch on oak

Builder: Shutters of Poole

Year: 1935

Built in 1935, at Shutters (later J Bolson’s) Poole yard for Harry Cartridge, Mary Irene was a registered fishing vessel at Poole (PE 47) when she was 'called up' for duty at Dunkirk.

Apparently, he took her to Ramsgate in company with 14 other boats in order to join the Op. Dynamo fleet.

Nothing is presently known about her contribution to the Evacuation except that she was released to her owner on 6th June 1940 then being used to tow military vessels around the south coast.

Harry's son Maurice later took the skippers position and continued the business of trawling, chartering and oyster dredging until she was sold to John Stevenson in 1996.

Subsequently sold to Peter Saunders, she was then kept in Newhaven and continued her life as a fishing vessel.

In September 2016, then known as 'Michele Star', she was viewed at Newhaven for sale on eBay by her current owner. She was purchased for use as a workboat, her original name being reinstated. She is to be overhauled and her MCA. ticket renewed.

She is now based on the Thames and is becoming a regular participant in Association events.

Feb. 21, 2017. Boston, MA.

Our Money, Our Communities Rally and March from Bank of America, 100 Federal St in Boston to Santander Bank Headquarters.

Bank worker unions are the norm in other countries around the world (and the US is the only country where Santander workers aren’t unionized). Santander workers present their petition to management in Boston making them the first workers at a major US bank to try to unionize.

Jack Smith writes:

“The U.S. bank workers have three demands. The first is greater wages and greater share of the profits, and the second is stable, full-time jobs. Crisp uniforms and polished storefronts aside, bank tellers are solidly low-wage employees — and wages have only taken a downturn over the past decade; as of May 2015, the median annual wage for a bank teller was $26,410.

The third demand isn’t just about protecting workers or shoring up their jobs — it’s about stopping predatory banking practices that pit bank workers against their own communities.”

This third demand is especially important here in New England, as evidenced by a recent report documents Santander’s discriminatory lending practices, which have had a particularly damaging impact in Massachusetts. Worker input could help to change those practices, as it did in the case of Wells Fargo last year.

Committee for Better Banks is a group of bank workers and consumers dedicated to improving the financial services industry for everyone by stopping foreclosures, displacement, and bank worker abuse.

Sponsored by: Committee for Better Banks, Massachusetts Jobs with Justice, Right to the City, City Life/Vida Urbana, Massachusetts Alliance against Predatory Lending, United for a Fair Economy, Massachusetts AFL-CIO, Communications Workers of America.
