The male Coots swam alone with a regal dignity. He and the others are living in a protected area so cannot be hunted by those who finds such activity somehow entertaining.

A Moment of Quiet Dignity | Isaan, Thailand
Met this gentleman on the grounds of a quiet temple in the Isaan region. When I asked for his portrait, he kindly accepted and stood with this incredibly peaceful, humble posture. A blink of the shutter caught him with his eyes closed, turning a candid travel interaction into a moment of serene contemplation.

Funeral Home in La Mesa, California. A listing in the San Diego Architecture Guidebook (Dirk Sutro, author; published by the San Diego Architectural Foundation, 2002) describes the Erickson Anderson Mortuary, built in 1930, as an "elegant WPA-era building, mixing Mediterranean with modern". I don't know how much of the building seen here is part of the original structure.
A Ring-necked Pheasant rooster (Phasianus colchicus) struts along brushy edge of field; Sacramento NWR; I was glad to get this shot because they can fly at what seems "faster than a speeding bullet." I missed a number of in-flight opportunites, but I'll be back.
Antsirabe (Madagascar) – Le pousse-pousse fait partie de l’imagerie traditionnelle malgache, au même titre que le lémurien ou le baobab. La capitale de ce moyen de transport, qui remonte à la colonisation, est Antsirabe. Il y a quelques années, au motif – légitime – que cette profession porte atteinte à la dignité humaine, la municipalité a décidé de réduire le nombre de pousse-pousse, refusant toute nouvelle immatriculation. Une décision favorable au cyclopousse, dont la pratique est jugée moins indigne. La levée de boucliers qui s’en est suivie, n’a rien changé à la décision de la mairie. Ni à l’essor du pousse-pousse qui se fait désormais en toute illégalité. Les autorités locales laissent faire pour éviter les émeutes. Un compromis a cependant été trouvé : le pousse-pousse est plus utilisé pour le transport de marchandises alors que le cyclopousse prend en charge les passagers. Un accord tacite qui n’est pratiquement jamais respecté par les tireurs de pousse-pousse.

Antsirabe (Madagascar) – The rickshaw is part of the traditional Malagasy imagery, just like the lemur or the baobab tree. Antsirabe is the capital of this mode of transport, which dates back to the colonial era. A few years ago, on the legitimate grounds that this profession undermines human dignity, the municipality decided to reduce the number of rickshaws, refusing any new registrations. A decision in favour of the cycle rickshaw, whose practice is deemed less undignified. The ensuing outcry did nothing to change the city council's decision. Nor did it stop the rise of the rickshaw, which now operates completely illegally. Local authorities turn a blind eye to avoid riots. A compromise has nevertheless been reached: the rickshaw is used more for transporting goods, while the cycle rickshaw carries passengers. A tacit agreement that is practically never respected by the rickshaw pullers.

It's hard not to appreciate the aesthetic qualities of this elevator in our hotel lobby. This elevator is the oldest working lift in the Southern Hemisphere.
One midsummer evening, I was driving along a small road between forests and pastures.
As the sun set, I noticed a small flock of sheep gathered around a tree. The low sun colored them yellow-orange.
When I approached with my camera, the flock began to move purposefully, probably heading home for the night.
However, I did not see anyone directing them. Only a lone stork walked confidently and with dignity. It seemed as if the flock was acting independently, following the lead sheep.
