Überwältigt vom Unterschied, den lediglich ein paar Sonnenstrahlen und ein imposanter Himmel machen können, muss ich euch hier noch mal beide Bilder zeigen!

What a difference a day makes. Raining again and blowing a howler, so a quick photo out of the hall window of the December view.
Hadn't got the camera on the right settings, but then couldn't be bothered with a retake. Partly because as I'm also waiting for important news from my sister and don't want to be far from the laptop.

Orange Amanita, opportunistically emerged on the side of a remote roadway.
Taxonomically only slight differences between this Amanita muscaria var. guessowii and it's more common red version Amanita muscaria var. flavivolvata and the almost identical Amanita muscaria var. persicina of the U. S. deep southeastern area.
I don't see Amanita Muscarias very often, sometimes years between seeing them. This is a real treat for me, I am delighted to have found it.

What a difference a day makes; last Friday I was at a press call for the Moscow State Circus and the on Saturday I photographed a massive Orange Lodge march through Johnstone involving over 40 bands (it took at least 40 minutes to pass my viewpoint). While most people probably think that such marches are only held in Northern Ireland they are very much part of life here in Scotland as well as in parts of England. The weather was kind for once, if not a little too sunny given the length of their march, marching all round the town while playing their instruments and carrying their various banners is no mean feat!!

Earlier this year Grocery Outlets had umbrella stands for about $18 and I bought a few, for my house and my daughters at the lake. I have great fun in finding different perches and positioning them to create different bokehs...this one being against the hill with brown grasses and oak trees. I can sit here for hours at a time as the birds come to the feeders. When this one male finally landed on this carefully placed perch and started looking around, it was fun to see 'what a difference' a turn of the head could make!

Some of you will remember me making this 3 ton excavator last year. A few weeks ago I called to see my friends at Clem Jacob Hire so I brought the bucket of the 90 ton excavator with me to show them the difference. It got a few laughs I can tell you. 😂
A couple of local jobs switching around Pomona Yard, both sporting former N&W SD40-2s, pause beside each other for a moment, allowing one to see the distinct differences that time has brought to these sister engines.
I know this picture is quite simular to the last one, but it is from the same series- I hopethis isn´t any problem and you will like this picture anywaaaays :-)

Just messing about with some filters on my phone, I was taken by how different this scene at Stoney Clouds looked with brighter colours and thought it would be interesting seeing them together!
Dramatically different lighting conditions made for a much different look for this fence compared to the last time I photographed it in late June—strong, angled late-afternoon sun for this shot versus the diffused light of a dark, cloudy day last time. I can't say that I like one over the other...they're just different. :-) The earlier shot is in comments.

I've always struggled to tell the difference between left and right when I'm pressed. It makes me a poor navigator when I'm asked to provide directions in unfamiliar places and even worse at taking instructions if I'm behind the wheel. Jab me in the ear and I might just about work out that you want me to take the next right, but if you say "right at the next junction," there's still a fifty percent chance I'll turn left. I even failed my driving test the first time because I gave way to a car to the left that was patiently waiting for me to enter the roundabout first. The second time I passed after having written "L" and "R" in the spaces between my thumbs and forefingers - although I had to get someone to check to make sure I'd got them the right way around,
The reason I mention this apparently irrelevant back story is that this inability to distinguish the dexter from the sinister also let me down close to the top of the Pap of Glencoe. It's not the biggest mountain in Scotland by a long chalk; as you can see here it's dwarfed by the peaks of the Aonach Eagach that climb ever higher out of the left (had to think about that) hand side of the frame. It is however achingly steep on the approaches to the summit from the south side out of Glencoe village. By the time you reach the more gentle slopes of its shoulder and gaze up grimly at the seemingly vertical sides of the rocky dome you might be forgiven for turning around and stumbling back down the track behind you. But on that warm and clear July afternoon when I'd stood on top of far higher mountain summits on each of the previous two days I kept on going - I wanted to see that view along Loch Leven.
And so I soldiered on, soon arriving at the last hundred feet of ascent over the rocky slopes, until I reached a point where I realised the path had somehow deserted me. After a brief hesitation I went to the left, when I should have gone to the right, which found me scrambling up uncharted crags over the last few yards before landing in a happy heap near the summit cairn.
Nobody else had come the same way as me, and as I sat on top of the mountain sipping Glenmorangie from a hip flask given to me by Jim from Clydebank at the foot of Ben Nevis the previous day, I gazed at the dreamy landscape far below. I could see the whole of Loch Leven, from where the West Highland Way footpath leaves Kinlochleven to the point at which it flows into the much larger Loch Linnhe under Ballachulish Bridge. Beyond that lay the Ardnamurchan peninsula where the lighthouse marks the most westerly point of mainland Britain (go on admit it - you thought it was Land's End didn't you?). It's moments like this that stay with you forever. It's moments like this that make you want to return and stand on as many summits as possible in the years to come. Would you like to see that view? For a pleasingly long period of time I had this lofty Caledonian kingdom all to myself, but as my time here passed, small groups arrived and left, their departures revealing the easiest way back down to safety. At least I wasn't going to have to go back down the mountain the way I'd come.
Seven months later I was back with Dave and Lee on another unforgettable visit to Scotland when we'd come to photograph as much of this impossibly beautiful part of Britain as the time and conditions would allow. There was only a small amount of mountaineering on that occasion, although it did bring the happiest morning with the camera of my entire life:

Later we arrived here, close to Kinlochleven on the banks of the loch where I found myself gazing lovingly at the perfectly shaped dome across the icy blue water. "I climbed that last summer." I announced to my very tolerant companions for the umpteenth time. They tutted quietly to themselves as they went about their compositions, while I continued staring at this breathtaking landscape in front of me. Once you've stood on top of a mountain, you feel that unbreakable bond each time you see it again afterwards.
The Scottish Highlands have probably affected me more deeply than any other place I've visited. Some places just do that: they get under your skin and stay there. You keep hearing that distant northern echo on the cold Arctic winds and daydream about the time when you can be there again. It may not be for a while yet, but when we can roam once more I'll be answering that call and setting the compass towards the northern skies.
What a difference a few months makes.
My last visit here in July (see first comment) confirmed how the vegetation/tree growth had limited the photographic opportunities. However due to issues with the vegetation encroaching on the structure gauge and damage to a number of cars on the car trains out of Toton Network Rail have undertaken some vegetation clearance work and opened up the photographic opportunities again.

Jesus came to bring spiritual LIFE to the spiritually dead and set the captives FREE! FREE from RELIGION, ERROR and outright LIES, so WE might serve THE LIVING GOD! In SPIRIT and in TRUTH!
So you'll KNOW, and not think you're to bad for God to love. The Christian LIFE isn't about how good WE are, because NONE of us are! It's about how GOOD JESUS IS! Because JESUS LOVES US, so much he died in our place and took the punishment for all of our sins on himself. The wages of sin is DEATH, and Jesus took the death WE so richly deserved for us and died in our place. The good news is, there's no more punishment for sin left. WE, you and I were all born forgive as a result of the crucifixion of God himself on the cross that took away the sins of the whole world. All we have to do is believe it, and put your Faith in the finished work of Jesus Christ. That my friends is REAL UNCONDITIONAL LOVE! YOU ARE LOVED. ❤️ ✝️ ❤️

On Wednesday morning I cut a hole out in the wall, we then threaded the beam through the hole, and propped it. I then dropped the doorway opening; and I took out the fireplace in the background.
Of course the bricks that were taken out needed stacking (ready for cleaning, and re-use). The debris needed taking down the stairs to the skip outside. This is the first floor of the building.
On Thursday morning I straightened up the sides of the door opening, ready to take the lintels next week. I can then wall up above the lintels, remove the beam and take out the props.
I started to wall up the fireplace opening in the background too.

I have many thoughts on this image. One was timing so that my trip took place over a new moon, ensuring I'd have as dark a sky as possible in Big Bend National Park. The next was to better appreciate the ephemeris apps. What I mean is the difference between reading and the app showing the center of the Milky Way being below the horizon especially in the latter month during a year. Then I saw and overheard someone pointing out the Milky Way being above in the skies...something was not adding up, needless to say! Then I realized the difference with the center of the Milky Way and the continuation in the skies with the long spiral arms. The next is to have an article saved or ready with camera settings to capture and later process any night image of the skies above. I found this to assist me, but there are many (photo.stackexchange.com/questions/43028/how-to-have-color...).
To the image itself, this is in the parking area at the Chisos Mountain Lodge looking to the southwest. The mountain outline is of Ward Mountain. Some of the trees in the lower portion are those in nearby hills which I found helpful for focusing (a note on that: one can use Live View or the equivalent to also focus). The EXIF data will show I kept the shutter open for 30 seconds and used a Nikon in camera setting to minimize long exposure noise which added an additional 30 seconds.
Lastly, those skies were truly beautiful!

Hey there! This scene took so long to create. On the left of the image, you notice there is a hole at the end. That's because I needed to rush the final part, to avoid losing my member role for the 3rd time. Anyways, happy belated Chirstmas, and enjoy the rest of the holiday!

Üsküp - Skopje The monument was constructed without any public consultation or taking into account sensitivities and differences, as the Millennium Cross promoted one religion.
After a number of attempts I eventually managed to get macro shots for comparison purposes of both the Small Red-eyed damselfly (top) and the Red-eyed damselfly (bottom). As you can see both are males, the Small Red-eyed has an additional blue segment on the end of its tail as well as more blue colouration on the underside of the first tail segments. The eyes are also a much deeper red in the Red-eyed damselfly whereas the small red-eyed are more brownish in colour. Obviously there is also a difference in size but this isn't easy to see in the field. Hopefully this is useful.
